so why don't they let the whistle go and get those nice long sounds for crossings, Are they trying to keep quiet? I mean towards the 13:00 minute mark they start to blow it a bit more but they still are quiet.
Thank you for watching YoFridayGamer, as you can tell I wasn't on the train, rather chasing it with a friend so I don't know. May I suggest writing to Steamtown itself to ask why don't they blow the whistle long enough? Every crew/engineer is different everyone has their own reasons why they do something a certain way, so I am certain if you ask around at Steamtown they should be able to tell you an appropriate answer.
I'd never heard whether 26 actually got to do the run to Carbondale. Well now I know - the little engine that absolutely could! That cute little 0-6-0 had quite a run out and back. And I learned something from the video. A couple years ago my wife and I were in Scranton, on Lackawanna Avenue, and traffic stopped, and in the distance I could see a train crossing the street on tracks that as far as I know had been long dead when I grew up in Scranton. In this video, 26 is seen doing this crossing!
Thank you for watching Ron, yes it was a real fun chase with #26... Hope they can do more and have more steam locos again in the future like what Steamtown was years ago. As for that Lackawanna Ave crossing the D-L now using that connection more frequently now some freight customers have returned, hoping even more return will mean a better outcome for the D-L as more business they will have but also the local economy as well..
I do think someone needs to put in some crossing gates! As to 26, looks like the rebuild was well done, and I hope they can the money to get a couple more, bigger steamers into service. A good strong steam program could do well for Steamtown and Scranton!
It's really unfortunate that in recent times Steamtown has gotten a bad name dubbed "diesel town".. Hopefully the NPS can revamp things, like having more events such as Railfest but do it with real steam trips.. The D-L has been great, but now with recent changes no more PT79/98 on the main line, but that does mean more chances for Steamtown to run excursions.. As for Railfest when NKP 765 visited 2015 the event was mobbed but with no real super star steam locos the last 2 years 2016 or 2017 the event wasn't packed.. We need some of those superstar locos to visit or some of the locos in the Steamtown Roundhouse to become alive again..
I remember one of the great steamers (Milwaukee) but can't remember the number, but I remember standing on the foot bridge as it huffed and puffed under me. When Steamtown has enough live steam going - and people know it, that place comes alive.
Thank you for watching LeoTheAnimeMan YT03, I don't railfan to just hear or see horns/whistles so I don't know anything about the origin of the whistle. What I can tell you is that in order to make everyone happy the engineer wasn't blowing the whistle the way it should be blown, just the little screeches so it wouldn't be loud to make anyone upset I guess. The next thing is that they won't blow the horns or whistle at all anymore, thanks to those no-train horn crossings/towns the FRA has allowed to happen.
@@LibertyRailfan When you say you don't railfan just to here horns/whistles. I don't either. It is a good reason why i would like to do it more however. Also another thing. Thank you very much Nate yes it was lol :-).. Greetings to you from Steamtown and Lackawanna County along the Delaware-Lackawanna RR's Carbondale branch.
I can’t help but notice the air compressor cycling quite often. Almost to suggest there is excessive leakage in the brake pipe or locomotive? I can’t imagine that line requiring an excessive amount of braking being relatively flat.
Nice job of capturing this event. The air compressor is making more noise than the locomotive's exhaust. I don't care for that cheesy-sounding over-blowing chime whistle. I wish they'd put back the single note hooter she used to wear.
Thank you very much YankInGA, greetings to you from Steamtown and Lackawanna County along the Delaware-Lackawanna RR's Carbondale branch. You aren't the first person I heard that from about the air compressor or the whistle. @@Dan_isreal.08 hopefully one day we can see Steamtown have many steam trains running again. Still, a decent place historically though glad it has been made into a park rather then houses buildings etc.

The only thing I can tell you is what I have heard Steamtown is now also unofficially known as Diesel Town, that being said Steamtown being under the NPS is a far cry from what is used to be. Many projects such as 3713 while some efforts were put forward it seems like everything there for Steam is at standstill for now, so locos like 3713 may never get done for a very long time or ever. It would be better to look at other projects at other RRs/locations such as Strasburg, Reading & Northern, Western Maryland etc..
@@rogerlollar4325 unfortunately... From what I've heard National Park Service has not really been the best for the railroad part of Steamtown. Some have suggested for Steamtown to break away from NPS. As for being a park they are doing a good job I think, but for running it as a railroad not so much.

When I was a little girl, My mom took me to the station to see there was a special steam train that someone got permission to run up the NJ transit/NS line that passes by my town heading into NY and up to port Jervis near Matamoras. I was expecting it to be going the speed of Strasburg but this big massive powerful locomotive just came barreling down the track at like 40 mph or something and I was so excited I was jumping around yelling CHOO!!! CHOO!! trying to get them to whistle at me. It had a long line of both historic and semi modern cars behind it. (well maybe modern for the 90s). It was soo awesome and they did it again the next year but I was disappointed that It didn't become annual.
I've seen someone's expression I was riding 765 through Chicago on father's day 2017 and when we flew past a crossing this ladies jaw was dropped so low she was in pure wow

Love to have a LIRR 3 chime or DLW 3 chime on 26 for a change someday. The 6 chime is nice

As you see it was a wet day and they just started pushing the cars so the weight and wet rails I guess was the factor causing the wheel slip.
