This route used to be in meter gauge till 1996 or so... I remember my friends' parents used to travel to Mangalore in meter gauge train before from Bangalore....just imagine how it would have been in those days

While descending the ghats, breakers (not bankers) are attached in the front to assist in breaking the train on slopes. While ascending the ghats, bankers are attached at the rear of the train to push the train from behind. This will reduce the load on the couplings. Hence requesting you to use the terms 'Bankers' and 'Breakers' properly.
Is it possible to do a day trip on this train from Bangalore and return the same day. Are there premium class ticket and how much are they?. How long is the one way journey and the departure time for the return journey from Mangalore. Thanks!
