    Steve Perry is a once in a lifetime singer. There will NEVER be anyone who can come close to him. He does things vocally that even voice analysis could not explain. He touches every emotion in your body all at one time with his voice. His vocal delivery makes you feel what he is singing. His music has meant so much to me and got me through a lot. He still today has an amazing voice. ❤❤❤❤

      I understand that I have been able to talk some with Neal Schon and I was Especially thought Captured took to another level I went to so many concerts and Bands like Journey that are so tight and he said that Journey treated and wrote the song live I remember 1982 Journey was still on the Escape Tour and at the Texxas Jam in Dallas which I am sure they did same thing at Astrodome they had written and practiced playing Separate Ways and introduced it as a song not yet recorded but will be on next album!

      I do believe that when Journey did Separate Ways at the 'Day On The Greens', the words are different from the studio album!
      Which makes it more awesome!

      @@reneeheknowsmyname6771 It was actually at both places Dallas was Saturday and Houston Sunday they also did 2 in 83 Ted Nugent Triumph and Sammy Hagar and then people wanted to run Styx out because of Dennis Broadway-type Mr Roboto now there was 1 year the Texxas Jam was only in Houston 1981. REO Speedwagon but the Jams were hatched in Dallas at Cotton Bowel the first few were just Dallas there is a Great Documentary on RUclips about really just the first Jam and members of Journey Heart Ted Nugent so on discuss they talk about when they decided to add the Houston Astrodome the reason for moving the 1981 Jam to Houston was the fear of the heat well that didn’t make sense because the Hottest Summer in Texas still in History was the Year before 1980 I was there Eagles headlined I went in 81 with a bunch of friends from Longview we couldn’t find tickets but people we were with had a suite at the Hotel that used to connect Astrodome and the elevator went to a walk way a bunch of us ended up at Surf side Beach I was still in HS from Longview. Did you grow up in Houston?

      I was there, too, as my second Journey concert. What a day that was. It was Mother Father at the Los Angeles Forum in 1981, about 3 weeks after this Houston performance, that literally changed my life forever. I liked Journey but I had no idea what I was about to experience at that concert, discovering the otherworldly, magical talent of Steve. I had never heard this song before, and my jaw hit the ground (metaphorically) and stayed glued there at the end, with that voice echoing through the venue. Absolutely Astounded.

      I know Exactly what You’re saying I had been at Journey concerts before and they were recording for Captured and I remember Steve pointing out microphones it’s funny I recorded the MTV concert of this on VHS when they released this in 2005 with a cd I was Happy I got to go to so many Incredible Concerts back through then and there was the law posted on signs no recording equipment or cameras Phones have become a distraction I like the light of a lighter better! When I go down to Houston to visit my Wife and Daughter we will go to church at the former home of the Rockets Joel Olsteen’s and when I get in auditorium I look around and that show comes back Vividly Funny I Liked that place a lot my Very Favorite place for concerts in Dallas Reunion Arena is gone saw Frontiers there the third sold out night

    • @RustyHinge

      This is untrue. Steve never trained for opera. He never even had formal vocal training. All he ever did was sing (and/or drum) in rock and R&B groups from junior high school on. Freddie Mercury had some opera training, and since both he and Perry are often brought up in the same conversation, some people confuse who had what training.

    Actually, Neal didn't write the lyrics. I, personally, don't really see it as a dark song. I view it in more of a hopeful way. Yes, it is written from the perspective of a broken home, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Just my perspective. You know what I find funny. So many people didn't know that was actually Steve hitting those notes at the end. They thought it was either Neal's guitar or some other instrument. Those programs that are able to isolate vocals have a hard time differentiating Steve's voice and instruments. Many times, the program leaves out some of his vocals because it thinks it is an instrument. Mother, Father is one of them. Here is what Neal said in a recent interview about how the song came together. "“Mother, Father” is very orchestral and very musical compared to our more pop-oriented rock songs. With “Mother, Father,” I had these classical chord changes that I came up with, and I wrote the whole song musically. And then my father, while he was living, wrote really interesting notes for it on the piano. I showed him the chord changes, and he came up with the interlude that the guitar and piano play. It pulled the whole song together. I like the sentiment of what Steve and Jonathan wrote lyrically about the song. I usually don’t come from that area. There’s a few songs that I’ve written choruses on, but I don’t really consider myself a lyricist. So I felt that, where they came from - about family in general, disjointed families, and how they fight to stay together - it’s something real that everybody deals with. I thought it fit perfectly for the music."

      awesome - thank you for the insight!! Wheel in the sky is another song where Steve hits a crazy note and a lot of people think it is the guitar!

    • @RustyHinge
      @RustyHinge 2 года назад +1

      It is both a dark and hopeful song, thus the mood changes during the course of the song. The verses are dark, the chorus and outro are hopeful.
