As someone who took voice lessons I can really tell how nasally all the Love Live girls sing. I looked it up and it's popular to sing like that in Japan, but it is bad for your vocal cords and can feel straining after a while. idk how their all able to sing like that so much cause that sh*t hurts XD.
As Japanese follows a Subject-Object-Verb structure, and English follows a Subject-Verb-Object structure, this is a correct translation, making sure that the outcome makes sense in the target language. Should it have followed the Japanese structure, it would have said 'Voice darkness passing through' which would not make sense in English. So yes, 'kakenuke' does not mean darkness, but it's not a translation problem :)
