Fun fact; in the full quote, water represents family, were blood represents friendship.
the full quote was some thing like
"The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb" meaning that bonds formed by choice are more powerful than ones formed merely by circumstance.

Well, technically they didn't know they were related before they became friends, so it could still apply to them. Their bonds were formed by choice.

So yeah, *years* late but what the hoo.
In the case of the kids, none of them are actually linked by "the water of the womb". Even the closest-related of them are only genetically related (not *biologically* so, which is the important distinction), which I think makes the Blood-vs-Water thing work in either context. Yes, some of them are technically family in a purely genetic sense, but equally their bonds are "blood of the covenant" first and foremost. You could also argue that they ARE direct relatives, within each session at least, thanks to the whole sharing-an-ectobiology-vat/ghost-slime-machine thing... so they're equal parts absolutely all siblings within their own sessions, and completely not related at all in the biological sense at the same time.

I completely agree with this, honestly. I’ve experienced this first hand - the term is Found Family - family you chose not because of an obligation to be kind to them, but because of mutual kindness and care for each other from both sides of the relationship
