    Definitely a solid ETF with a multitude of safe plays, I personally like to take advantage of the broad market when investing in ETFs and Indexes so therefore, I invest in VTI and VTSAX all within my retirement accounts and individual plays outside of them with just about all of which are dividend investments!

    Nice video, there was a previous video where you said you really liked SCHD and that it outperformed a lot of ETFs. Why does your Roth portfolio only have Vanguard ETFs and not SCHD?

    • @DividendGrowthInvesting

    I would like to see a video on VDIGX. I think an analysis of this dividend growth fund that holds 40 stocks would be interesting because it mirrors what a lot of individual accounts look like (30-40 stocks). Looking back on its distributions, it looks like it generally ranges between 3-5% per year, however there are some capital gains to deal with. I know we're all are supposed to hate capital gains, but we're also looking for a higher yielding fund/ETF. If you get a 3% dividend + a 2% capital gain (5%), I'm not sure that's all that different than a 5% dividend - for most taxpayers. Anyway, I think a lot of dividend investors let the tax tail wag the dividend dog and it might be the case by not choosing a fund like VDIGX.

    • @DividendGrowthInvesting
      @DividendGrowthInvesting  2 года назад

      This is a really great topic for a future video! I generally am not a big fan of mutual funds, but this one from Vanguard has a very low expense ratio. Wellington has a really great track record.

      @@DividendGrowthInvesting There is VIG, which has 250 stocks and somewhat similar holdings, but it's stated yield is ~1.6%. We all agree this yield is low, so the question is how to get a higher yield from the same type of stocks (quality). There doesn't seem to be an option in the ETF space. yes, you can get to 3% by moving to SCHD, but nothing close to 5% (unless you use JEPI, etc). So then, does holding a fund like VDIGX solve this problem? Or does the distribution of capital gains and a somewhat lumpy income stream keep this from being an option? Anyway, it's an interesting discussion.

    • @rjlane3475
      @rjlane3475 2 года назад

      @@DividendGrowthInvesting You might also look at a 50/50 holding of VIG/VDIGX. this should dampen the amount of capital gain per year, but maybe increase the income?

    Thank you Jake. As an elder beginner, much to learn. So if possible, a quick question ... if I am mainly interested in (1) dividend income (dividend growth and payout ratio less important); (2) have no tax issues as living overseas and have to pay 25% on investment income in US; (3) keeping initial investment relatively safe for children; would you suggest REITS and if so, an ETF REIT ... suggestions? Thank you!

    Do you recommend having these kinds of dividend etfs in a tax advantaged account (i.e. Roth IRA) over other forms of dividends like REITs?

    • @DividendGrowthInvesting
      @DividendGrowthInvesting  2 года назад +3

      Well it could make sense to have them in either. DGRO is qualified dividend because there are no REITs so it is tax efficient for a taxable account.

    I'm glad DGRO doesn't incorporate ESG into investments. As we're starting to see those who dictate ESG scores can change their mind on what the score is made of at the drop of a hat.
