I think my car is in the early stages of the part going bad. My 2012 travers ltz keeps going a notch above 210 on the gage when setting at red lights. Did you notice the same thing?
DUDE ! You forgot to TIGHTEN IT ! Also... whenever you have the oil filler tube open you should put the cap back on or a clean rag over it so NOTHING CAN FALL into your engine.
This is a coolant temp sensor, so did you have to drain the coolant? Or does the sensor only touch the head and not the water-jacket. Also, did you have to wrap the threads with anything like Teflon tape or something more heat resistant?

No drain needed. You can put anti-seize on the threads.
