  • LD 96 allow would allow around 8,000(under 5%) of Maine’s school children to remain in school with their friends and classmates after a new, no exemption vaccine mandate law takes effect on September 1, 2021. It would have only applied to children that were in school prior to September 1, 2021 to remain in school with their classmates. Every other state in the nation that has implemented a vaccine law similar to Maine’s has given this type of exemption. Unfortunately it was defeat in the House by an 77-67 vote mostly along party lines, with all Republicans voting in favor of the bill that grandfathered the students to remain in school. It was defeated in the Senate similarly 21-13 with all Republicans supporting the kids and only one Democrat joining them.
