I don't mean to be critical, but I hope whoever watches this does your research because a lot of hydrangeas are NOT easy to grow and require LOTS of water (that's why they're called "hydra"-ngeas) and depending on what zone you live in, you could be watering them every day in order to keep them alive. Many of them are also very picky about their sun requirements. So, maybe watch a few more videos before growing 🙂
Agreed. I've found that deep watering during the summer several times a week, especially during the first year is critical in order for the hydrangeas to establish a strong root system.

It wasn’t even a flower bed, just good dirt some camellias were growing in. Watered them for the first couple weeks after we moved them but then literally forgot about them. Two years later, we have big blue beautiful blooms. The two major changes we made that I believe contributed to its success: keeping them away from a sprinkler system and throwing kitchen scraps in the dirt nearby. Search “trench composting” for a similar technique. No need for expensive fertilizer. They used to be pink, but the blue is largely due to a tremendous amount of horse manure nearby.
I don't know about your watering your hydrangeas once a week. I believe do what works for you especially in the summer months. I had to light sprinkle my hydrangeas every other day because in the hot summer months and mine has grown nice. No issues on that end. I'm new to hydrangeas and love the look of them which they are beautiful flowers.
I miss visiting my granparents farm in Brazil where they had beautiful blue hydrangeas, we call it "hortência" in Portuguese. I currently live in Colorado and am considering planting hydrangeas on my front yard.
ive been propagating hydrangeas. i cant believe how well they all took. so far i have 19 on the yard now. i cant wait to show few pictures of them. the buds are clearly seen already and its almsot end of april, still cold out here in NS, canada. lavender i have been trying to grow as well. wish i knew this few years ago. i would have hundreds by now. lol
I bought a hydrangea from a nursery. They said it was called Fred and wished me good luck with him. Yes this particular one looked very miserable and hanged it's head until I gave him a drink and then he raised up again and came back to life but he did need regular watering.

I'm getting to grips with them. I bought some cheap ones from Lidl and they died when In planted them in my garden, but that's because of the poor quality soil, etc. I have planted others in the right compost and they are thriving now. I replanted some I had in the front garden in the back and pruned them, etc and they are flowering again!
I stopped buying plants from supermarkets because they are mostly imported from other countries many of them are warmer thanUK so they don’t grow here . I had good experience with nursery and garden centres plants .
Great video, I leave in texas border with Mexico, reaching temperatures of 91 degrees, i water them 3 times a week, they are alive but i barely get 2 blooms, do i need to fertilize more? Due to the hot weather i have them always under a roof

My big leaf hydrangeas are happy with 1x a week watering. They have been in my garden for 10 years and are established. I do have 2 year old Anabelle hydrangeas, planted under a tree that competes with water- it needs more than 1x a week watering especially if it’s hot it will droop. Maybe your hydrangeas are not established or you live where summers are really hot? Or your hydrangeas are in full sun or near a big tree that competes with water that’s why you are doing daily watering?

Just an example, baskets or pots have to be watered daily and sometimes twice a day. I have an Annabella on the side of the garage. That can go fo a week without water, but the flowers are not full if you do that. They need watering every other day.
Hi! I live in CT! I was just in Toronto last month! You are right, if they don't get enough water they will not flower as much as if you watered it. I find Annabelle hydrangeas thirstier than big leaf hydrangeas. Hydrangeas kept in baskets and pots do have to be watered daily because they dry out. They are best planted in soil. Have you had any luck overwintering hydrangeas kept in pots? I find it tricky!

I only like growing blue flowers so I wanted blue hydrangeas. I put them in the shade on half barrel planters to be able to control the soil acidity easily. It was so not easy! I had to give them aluminum sulfate and acid every day to keep them from changing colors! In the summer I had to water them every day to keep them from wilting! Never again! Only in rainy Seattle in acidic soil can one have blue hydrangeas with minimal effort!

Yes! I'm in central Alabama with acidic red clay soil, highly supplemented with potting soil blended in. Once a week is OK here IF there are regular afternoon showers. Otherwise, I water every 3 days at least. There are many varieties. Some need to be trimmed in fall, some only bloom on old (last year's) wood so you need to know what you have to be certain about pruning. Adding baking soda is OK to get pink if you don't happen to have lime. Coffee grounds will add acid. I personally love it when I get blends of blue, pink, deep blue and purple on one plant. Oh, if you get only afternoon sun, like I do, watering more often may be necessary. It all depends on how hot it is.
@@ajaxkm Mid summer - mid 90s and up. HIGH humidity. If you are 100F and dry, probably better mix in a lot of good soil and water daily. Leaves that become yellow means the plant is either getting too much or too little moisture. Check the soil, if it is soggy and your leaves begin to turn yellow, cut back on watering. Soon you'll get the feel for it. Good luck!

My white ones grow tall, so I trim them sometimes in fall and in spring. Then I just stick the cuttings in the ground and create more shrubs that way!
I live in the UK We got Hydrangea's in the garden like a remembrance of my late mum she loved these plants in the front garden.

Yes, it’s a good idea to fertilize it!
I always buy the sad ones on clearance and nurse them back to health. It's a good challenge and i am in zone 7/8.
Hydrangeas in the Pacific Northwest sone 8b (rainy region) need watering regularly…..like two to three times per week in the summer months.

What happens if I pour coffee instead of putting ground coffee in hydrangeas?

I gave my plant coffee grounds and the flowers are blue. They raise the acidity.

Water it. You should also repot in a larger container. Or if you live in a place where you can plant it in your garden outdoors- do it.
