The whole biovestites/sexism thing reminds me of something in "About writing" by Stephen King. King writes about how he got accused of being racist when a character in one of his books was a racist, and thus some chapters were written from the POV of this racist person. King insists that it's important to stay true to the character you're writing, and if that happens to be a racist, well, so be it, but it doesn't have to mean that the author agrees with what his character may be thinking. That being said, indeed I wouldn't get angry at Stephen King if one of his characters said or thought something racist or sexist. However with Kojima, I feel like so many things that his main characters say are just extensions of what he himself thinks. He's so self-referential and has so many self insertions and the fourth wall is so nonexistent in his games that he, in my opinion, can't get away with having a character saying something controversial. So I understand why people would be angry at Kojima for some of the things that his characters say.

28:53 I know I'm late to the party, but a more accurate translation than the official one is more along the lines of: "It's a show pub for women who have undergone complete sex reassignment surgery. I went there on business once. Bio-hermaphrodites, genetically engineered for a complete sex change. A specialty of the city." It's worth noting that the term "hermaphrodite" doesn't have the same negative connotation as it does in the US, as it's been interchangeably used for both transgender people and people with genetic transsexual traits as a generic catch-all term.
Already putting them Deadly Premonition sound effects to work, eh? Also, I still can't believe Kojima coined the term VR CP in 1994. What a fucking visionary...
Kojima's nickname being "Ojama" is weirdly fitting for a yugioh archetype. In Yu-gi-oh, the Ojama archetype are all extremely weak monsters that barely do anything on their own, but they have access to some of the strongest support cards in the entire game. As a total _Kojima virgin_ (which is the most unpleasant thing I've probably ever typed) who was suddenly exposed to Death Stranding last year, the experience of that game's story was comparable progressing through the five stages of grief over the span of 50 hours. I can't believe we'd thought he'd gone to shit!", which just made me feel like a crazy person and I became sad. Ever since that point I have basically been on a quest to somehow reconcile _my_ experience of Kojimmy with that of his fans, and this video was a major breakthrough in translating the overall smell of hot garbage into a bouquet of constituent stank-elements that could be processed and grappled with on a rational level. This probably wasn't the intended purpose of the video, but thanks anyway for accidentally throwing a bone to my weirdly specific demographic.
Yup that's pretty much my experience of Kojima also. Except... Snatcher. You should give it a try, or at least watch a play through. It rambles occasionally but IMHO it tells a story more successfully than anything Kojima has since produced.

I play through this game at least once a year on an old crt setup with an old ps1 controller in hand. I gotta say it feels super meta, playing a game of the past that depicts a vision of the future, run on a technology of yesterday in the year 20XX *mind blown* When we 90s kids put in the Policenauts disc into our Sega Saturn or Playstation 1 from back in the days we are just like Jonathan, relying on old technology and knowledge of the past trying to understand the present, in a way we become Jonathan and so many themes in this game are still relevant todays society and humanities future.

People often use Stanley Kubrick as the film anaolgy of Kojima but I'd say he's more David Cronenberg as in he's brillant and can put out works of genius so long as he's protected from his own ambition. As long as someone like a Jeremy Blaustein or Tomokazu Fukushima is their to reel him in like *woooooah there buddy...let's uhhh let's slow down just a smidge* and keep him on a bit of a creative leash and filter some of the insanity of his ideas into eccentricity. Otherwise his id takes over and he goes FULL Cronenberg...and you never go full Cronenberg(2022 Crimes of the Future).
So concerning the whole controversy with tattoos, the age of women, and even the whole "asexual" article from Death Stranding, or critique of sexuality in general, is that in many parts of asia (especially Japan) the culture is much more conservative and "old school" in certain aspects. Even Europeans consider the USA to be lacking in "progressive liberal" beliefs compared to them, which is not a false statement. In Japan and many parts of Asia even today, tattoos are considered taboo and you are restricted from certain public activities just for having one. For example public bath houses and hot-springs will not allow people with tattoos, because people wouldn't really get one unless they were in a gang or involved with shady or unclean business of some kind. Japan is also struggling with relationships in general, both romantic and friendships, as people commonly are living lives without developing intimate connections with other people and only have time for work. Their birth rates are actually declining. Instead of just pointing fingers at a man its important to take into consideration the culture of their environment and what the norms and struggles are where they are located. I'm sure once you've traveled to the other side of the world you really will see it's a whole different world you're living in. Also how quickly people forget that the Quinceanera (15th) is a birthday specifically to celebrate a girl becoming a WOMAN, so I'm kinda calling out the hypocrisy in that since the western world still celebrates it today. Each prefecture in Japan has it's own age of consent as well, its not a unanimous thing across the whole country.
Any one besides me get some crazy flashbacks with with Neo Kobe Qurantine that came about from an event that happened in the in the fall i.e. WW3 starting in august

When we 90s kids put in the Policenauts disc into our Sega Saturn or Playstation 1 from back in the days we are just like Jonathan, relying on old technology and knowledge of the past trying to understand the present, in a way we become Jonathan and so many themes in this game are still relevant todays society and humanities future.
Those core tenets are spot on
Disaster Report 4 just dropped today. Seeing it made me think of this youtube channel 😁
Wondering about this channel and then saw this was uploaded 3 minutes ago. I now officially have psychic powers. Also, probably should have rung that bell, maybe I would have been notified immediately, I actually have no idea what that shit does.
Aaah I'm so glad I'm subscribed to you, D-Boy.
Snow-9 seems like a reference to Ice-9 from Cat’s Cradle. Nice to see Kojima is a Vonnegut fan, though it’s not surprising.
NO FUCKING WAY YOU WERE THE ONE FROM WOOLIES DEATH LP????
I LOVE YOU EVEN MORE
I had to stop the video at 4:47 and walk away for like 2 to 3 hours. My boy thorhughheels is he really saying these things, am I hearing this heresy. So I made some coffee and thought about some more and now in the bath I revisitthe video and realise he's teasing me and I can continue to binge watch so I've been playing while washing my gooch. Much love fuck boys
8:26 finally some sweet thor asmr
Love your videos Thor. Keep at it buddy
This is a really good video.
"Well what about it fuckboy?" New favorite comeback.
Brother when the Respiration beat kicked in.....whew
Love this game man
Snacher
Thorhighheels kept me waiting for this video...
Heh
It's incredible that you managed to predict Death Stranding 2 being about boats and the ocean here
Policenauts is gigahorny because it's supposed to be Lethal Weapon which is also partially why Mel Gibson is Snake in MG2
just got a eboot for my good and old psp of policenauts ahah it was very funny to see you talking about it again, i draw so im very interested in the visual side of the game, i didnt know that the game had such a big focus on the sex appel stuff haha i dont bother, i mean, nobody has to play it or even like it, so naturally its not for everyone, but im totally trying it out
That fuckin’ “The Pop Group” reference at 5:34, I love it
It's a late comment but I like your choice of the black star respiration instrumental
I really like your videos.
Kojima is a westaboo
“What about it, fuckboy?”
Lmaoooo perfection
13:02 "Abundant natural resources"? Totally not a sexual reference, I'm sure. LOL
I love the Blade Runner but never got to Snatcher. Hope it will be properly remade one day.
Great taste.
You had me at Black Star lmao
Wish you good health man
You're great, dude
Ugh! I seriously need to play Policenauts. That game looks interesting.
Needed this
Hey you won't see this probably but that The Pop Group reference was slick as fuck
Love your videos! Also that's sting from dune lol
This is the good stuff
Last time I was this early, not even the teachers had arrived.
Yesssssss goooooooooooooood
"Liquid Sky" reference cool
😂😂😂😂 "you can relate to the character as you too don't know shit"😂😂😂😂 I love it
that snow 9 seems like a reference to vonneguts ice-9 innit
Yo thor u ever play earthbounf/mother series?
Hey Thor, can I recommend a weird ps2 game for you to check out and possibly review? It's called Evergrace, and I think it's one of the first games the staff that became Fromsoft worked on? There's also Chaos Legion which from what I've heard sounds like your favourite kind of ps2 jank.
