People don’t comprehend the intense level of drive, focus, commitment, passion and emotion that goes into being this good, and how difficult it is to contain and control all that energy. You can’t really understand it until you actually work with such a person and frankly not everybody can even deal with being in a close working relationship with someone on that level. Her emotions after this race give a small glimpse of the intensity of it all.

Courchevel = Curved shovel -- Swedish / Sioux Indian / Frenchy. Those increments, of her skyae(skis), chattered is, her body mass-- in control of, vectored index-- really nice Mikaela, Pk loves it!

There are a couple things I focus on predominantly watching Mikaela that accentuate and illustrate just what makes her impossible to compare to anyone in the technical disciplines when she is REALLY in the zone (imho) except perhaps Marcel Hirscher off the top of my head. The first point is not only her amazing balance, but the facility and looseness she combines it with; allowing her to get more snap and acceleration from the ski than any female skier I’ve ever seen. One of my strongest memories of watching her first couple seasons on the WC tour was exclaiming, “Holy s***! She looks like she came out of the Austrian program...but has the same balance as Marlies Schild!” (at the end of Schild’s career as the “queen of slalom”). My next focus is on her initiation. Her transition between turns is SO perfect it tends to just look like an afterthought, something after closely analyzing WC video for 3 decades I can say is also unmatched in all the women I have seen. In order to keep from writing a dissertation, I will briefly list the last details: one thing you will almost NEVER see Mikaela do is belabor a poorly-executed or off-line turn. She gets off her edges faster than anyone on tour: it is probably THE principal reason even when she makes a big mistake that would ruin any other skier’s run she recovers in ONE OR TWO TURNS and does not continue to bleed time. This is exceedingly rare if not totally unmatched and points to her incomparable focus and mental strength.
Obviously I am an unabashed Shiffrin fan-boy; I am both elated and immeasurably proud to see her back in the winner’s circle where she belongs. I can’t imagine how much pain she has gone through in losing one of her two biggest fans; her dad. I’m not going to say anything cheesy about him looking down on her from above...that win in Courchevel was at once two distinct things: devoted fully to her father’s memory and possibly the most highly valued and hard-fought win of her career. Congrats, Mikaela; we were lucky to be alive during Lindsey’s career...we are ridiculously spoiled to also bear witness to your talent. May you reign supreme for many years to come.

@Beat The Clock Thank you so much for posting this and commentating it, and for your sensitivity. Because the race had been postponed a day, I didn't get to see it with commentators, except for Mikaela's run on RUclips, and they didn't have a lot of technical comments. I'm not a skier and I've only been a fan for a few years, so I still need to hear an expert opinion 😊

It's nice to see her back on top. I worry about her, though. Yes, she's inspirational. But she seemed emotionally fragile even before the tragedy. Now, I can't help but think she is suffering to the point it could overwhelm her. I just hope it has a happy ending.

Great viedeo, „completely dominating the rest of the world“ seems a bit like a reach though. 82 hundredths is a lot, but also Brignone had a pretty big mistake.
That being said, it certainly looks possible that she‘ll go back to being really dominant!

Thank you, yea you´re right, that was a bit of a strech.. I was just very impressed, even though the italians seemed quite close.

Just watched this last night. The Italian ladies are a big force to contend with the past couple years. Bassino went down with maybe the winning time. She must have felt devastated over that. Vlhova skiied out the early. So Mikeala had 2 great runs and nice to see her on the podium. But her big competition was out with DNF. Im sure that energized her mental game for the next races. Going to be some great races to watch this season.

@@cdawg9149 I agree with you, but to be fair, the only skier who was in the green when she DNF'd was Bassino. Michaela does have her work cut out for her.
I have a question for you. Do you think that Mikaela has gotten slower or that the other top women have gotten faster?

First I hope you can keep posting ski racing vids. Cant get enough of them especially with your summary .
Mikeala has lit a fire with the other women and they see what they have to do to beat her. They are stepping up their game no doubt. Mikeala may be a tad bit off her best which is to be expected after her loss of her dad. She has the talent to become the greatest /winning ski racer of all time IMHO. She must know her dad is with her and wants her to do exactly that. Once she accepts that she will be hard to beat. Have to give up for the Italians and Vlhova too. They are truly great ski racers.
