She is really nice...we went to watch her ski here in the Czech Republic a few weeks ago, and it was a Pro-Petra Vlhova crowd (her friendly rival from Slovakia)..and she won the crowd over easily with her charm and humbleness, and then, despite the rain, snow and being exhausted, we watched her sign autographs for what seemed like 30 minutes...a real classy girl :)
It's interesting. Although she's Petra's biggest rival, the whole Slovakia is generally very fond of Mikaela (based on how media speaks about her and how favourable the social media comments generally are), just because how wholesome and nice Mikaela is.
5:45 "the most talented skier on the planet." This. To be that consistent and to win in multiple disciplines is incredible. Sportsperson of the decade!

Question: do you Americans took notice of alpine skiing only with her, and maybe before a little with Lindsey and Bodie Miller? To me, who I have followed alpine skiing for the past 40 years or so, she is an absolute phenomenon - she has the potential to become the greatest female skier of all time. So far it’s still the Austrian Annemarie Moser Proell from the 1970s and early 80s, I don’t think Vonn quite caught her (Vonn maybe second, Vreni Schneider from Switzerland third). But Shiffrin can catch her. She may even be able to catch Ingemar Stenmark.
She will break 100 world cup victories.

Mikaela has an infectious personality, a great sense of humor and she can ski to boot. She seems quite grounded for being the best in the world. A good role model.
She lost her dad a while back which was really hard for her, but she is the definition of personality and athleticism.
Her dad was a good skier as well - not as good as his daughter but he competed as well in college. He is also a Dartmouth College graduate and became an anesthesiologist after medical school. He supported all his kids in their endeavors including skiing (they lived in Vail, CO to support that). He is an amazing person and his whole family is nice as can be.
She has made an incredible comeback.

A role model. Her humility, sense of humour and inquisitive nature are very rare. She always has something good to say about countries she races in and the people as well.

@trha2222 this pretty much lines up exactly with how they finished over the course of the season. The only reason there were more men in the top ten is because Mikaela had so many podiums she earned almost twice as much as the next closest woman. If she earned the same as the top male earner, and the rest was split between the other women, it would be practically equal.

Isn't it funny that you never hear a white or Asian person complain that they're not as good or that they make much less playing in that "black dominated sport" than say LeBron? I think her taking a day of recreational skiing with anyone is hella remote. Even from the very earliest years on skis she just wanted to run gates, and was bored with free skiing.

That dance was created originally in Australia called The Melbourne Shuffle during the late 80's early 90's it was huge here, techno, eurodance and trance music was used to dance to it.

What makes her stand out are not the records she already broke but the kind of person she is. She is humble, intelligent, genuine, funny and just an overall nice person. That plus the succes she has is absolutely unbelievable taking into consideration she is only 24 years old. I was starstuck when I met her 3 years ago, I have to say I fell in love with her personality and the way she treats people. Mikaela deserves the world!

She is from Steamboat Springs, and Lindsey Vonn is from Vail; I cant even tell you guys how proud we are of these two; but Mikaela is really something; she is still fighting to come back to #1 again after her Dad died quite suddenly; they were REALLY close...watch the footage of her collapsing in tears on her first win since his death...I just love this woman so much. She really is The Colorado Kid....

I believe you are wrong. Both Vonn and Shiffrin grew up in Vail. (Vonn was born In Minnesota). Shiffrin moved to Vermont (ski training boarding school) as a young skier to get the best training on ice slopes for conditions she’d face in Europe. Obviously a very wise move compared to the lush conditions of Vail. No woman has ever been better on steep ice than Mikaela when she’s in her zone.
I think the girls especially are very clever when it comes to shuffle dancing some of them must be double jointed to perform the different moves doing this way of dancing. Now Mikaela seems to be down to earth person and to me very humble about what she has achieved.
The “equal pay” is because women skiers draw huge numbers of fans (as do women tennis players). Some women in MMA outdraw the men, and get paid accordingly.
Why is "equal pay" in quotes? Is in it fair? if you draw more fans, you making more money for the sponsors and you deserve higher income for yourself. What's wrong with it? Same applies for the football players - men deserve way higher payment than woman players for the same reason. If you have a product that no one wants to buy, should its price have to be increased by SJW laws just to remove the "payment gap" with a top shelf product? Payment gap is total BS.
Men and women skiing bring the same amount of viewers, hence the equal pay. You can't demand that and justify it in football, for example, where woman football is ridiculous.

I‘m from germany and normaly simpithy more with the austrian skiers but I have to say, that for me she is already the greatest female skier of all time.
And how she came back this season is absolutely incredible and so good to see. I hope she‘ll have fun riding her skis again and come back even stronger than ever before next season.

Gender pay gaps do not exist, or companies would only hire women to save money. And the only reason men make more than women in sports is because nobody watch women sports and the revenue just isn't there. Skiing is different because the fan base for that particular sport watch both women and men just like all other extreme sports.
Just going to be nit picky on one little thing .. the photo of her so called “ crashing” she is actually doing something called a double cross block which is becoming more common in a dual slalom format which this photo was taken from.. this girl.. she doesn’t crash very often if ever haha

I don't believe she's ever crashed in a World Cup, Olympic or World Championship race, at least not since her first year, when she DNFed a lot of GSs.

If I could've done that when I was young I certainly would have. Unfortunately, I'm much more in tune with fishing and hunting/camping...that sort of thing. But still a lot of fun to catch those big bass or catfish.

@@mikaelashiffrin3210 I've seen three so far I think. Been watching a lot of the Olympics on video this year (something I never used to do) so that's kept me busy. I'm new at the skiing thing but goodness you guys fly coming down those hills!!! Tried it once as a teenager and couldn't do it. Broke both ankles when I was young so I don't have good enough support or control. Broke the left one twice. Had too many injuries to count. I sometimes think I'm in competition with Evil Knevil. LOL

I might be wrong but I'm pretty certain I saw Mikaela on a local train in Croatia just a day before women had ski race in Zagreb in 2020. I briefly noticed she spoke American English, carried pretty big suitcase and was incredibly nice to everyone. Didn't have time to approach her as I needed to go off the train but if this wasn't her, it was someone that looked like her twin honestly.
