I believe you are wrong. Both Vonn and Shiffrin grew up in Vail. (Vonn was born In Minnesota). Shiffrin moved to Vermont (ski training boarding school) as a young skier to get the best training on ice slopes for conditions she’d face in Europe. Obviously a very wise move compared to the lush conditions of Vail. No woman has ever been better on steep ice than Mikaela when she’s in her zone.
Her dad was a good skier as well - not as good as his daughter but he competed as well in college. He is also a Dartmouth College graduate and became an anesthesiologist after medical school. He supported all his kids in their endeavors including skiing (they lived in Vail, CO to support that). He is an amazing person and his whole family is nice as can be.

She was a guest on all things- NPR Wait Wait don't tell me back when she was first a top skier and Olympian. She was 19 at the time and that show was one of the FUNNIEST ever for Wait Wait don't tell me. I laughed almost continuously at what she said. Just going to be nit picky on one little thing .. the photo of her so called “ crashing” she is actually doing something called a double cross block which is becoming more common in a dual slalom format which this photo was taken from.. this girl.. she doesn’t crash very often if ever haha
She's seems really cool, maybe run into her one day up here in mountains (Colorado). I could name a dozen more that have an attitude image that follows them, one even a bad tipper out to eat.
You wna know why? Because until they got the best in the world, America didn't give a **** about skiing at all. But thats just sport preferences, dont judge people by them. I'm just impressed how she wasn't mad about his missing knowledge.
The “equal pay” is because women skiers draw huge numbers of fans (as do women tennis players). Some women in MMA outdraw the men, and get paid accordingly.
Why is "equal pay" in quotes? Is in it fair? if you draw more fans, you making more money for the sponsors and you deserve higher income for yourself. What's wrong with it? Same applies for the football players - men deserve way higher payment than woman players for the same reason. If you have a product that no one wants to buy, should its price have to be increased by SJW laws just to remove the "payment gap" with a top shelf product? Payment gap is total BS.
Men and women skiing bring the same amount of viewers, hence the equal pay. You can't demand that and justify it in football, for example, where woman football is ridiculous.
hahaha. Skiing still belongs to Scandinavia mostly Norway. Mikaela has 7 total gold in all major competition. Skiing is more than downhill, cross-country skiing is the original style of skiing and is also the biggest competition. Because cross-country skiing also has alot of different competitions like, sprints, relay, and long distances to name a few. Bare in mind those are often combined with specific types of skiing, such as classic and skating. Saying Mikaela is the queen of skiing is false. There are more dominant athletes within skiing than her. Saying she's the queen alpinist is more realistic.

If I remember correctly she started reading books on sports psychology at the age of 9 because she felt bad the day after a sleepover. She then got obsessed with making sure she was in the best physical and mental shape every single day. Like Aristotle said, "We are what we repeatedly do, excellence then, is not an act but a habit." Get after it people
@silvia giraskov Coincidentally, Vlhova won a giant slalom in Jasna, Slovakia with Shiffrin in third place. Is that down to the delay at the starting gate?
Question: do you Americans took notice of alpine skiing only with her, and maybe before a little with Lindsey and Bodie Miller? To me, who I have followed alpine skiing for the past 40 years or so, she is an absolute phenomenon - she has the potential to become the greatest female skier of all time. So far it’s still the Austrian Annemarie Moser Proell from the 1970s and early 80s, I don’t think Vonn quite caught her (Vonn maybe second, Vreni Schneider from Switzerland third). But Shiffrin can catch her. She may even be able to catch Ingemar Stenmark.
Seventeen World Cup wins in one season? Sixty-two Cup wins at 24 years old? Four Globes last year without missing a single gate? Clinching an Overall in her sleep? How is that possible? 'Sir-naps-a-lot' Mikaela Shiffrin's stated goal is to become the greatest skier of all time. From Tina Maze she learned not to get 'burned-out'. Stenmark's record of 86 Cup wins is official but today's competition is much more intense. This humble, young American brings tears to my eyes. One at a time 'Mik, step by step.

You ALWAYS make MY day better champ 🤟🏼 !!!!!!!!!! Thank you !!!!!! 😎⛷️🏆

She’s amazing, the best skier and beautiful, more power to her 💪💪
Thank you for the likes guys! 😂✌
You think that's unnatural to be beautiful and talented at the same time, I suppose.
Live ain’t fair )
I'm beautiful and talented.....I'm just not beautiful.........or talented.
don’t be stupid, beauty is not opposite talent or intelligence or whatever
women actually can be beautiful and talented&worker at the same time
I don't think that she earned that without A LOT of training
aside from being a pro skier Mikaela has a great personality..
you go girl !!

She was a guest on all things- NPR Wait Wait don't tell me back when she was first a top skier and Olympian. She was 19 at the time and that show was one of the FUNNIEST ever for Wait Wait don't tell me. I laughed almost continuously at what she said. Truly a comic talent in the making as well as a top skier. Don't know what she's done since, but for some reason this popped up as a youtube recommendation so I watched it. Didn't know she was so funny all the way around.
I think the girls especially are very clever when it comes to shuffle dancing some of them must be double jointed to perform the different moves doing this way of dancing. Now Mikaela seems to be down to earth person and to me very humble about what she has achieved.
She is beautiful, smart and cool.. legend, best skier of all times 🔥💪
Hope she will be ok after todays crash in Cortina 😮🍀
she is so amazing that it's difficult to root for someone else. and it's not just her athletic skills, but also her personality. she's humble, but ambitious, she's super nice and always thinks of the others first.
she is an absolutely flawless human being!
Oh stop it. Flawless? You don't even know her.
@@davidgloberman3098 no, i don't know her personally. do you?
i would love to meet her someday, one of the few athletes i would actually want to meet.
and yes, maybe it's just a face that she puts on for the media, but until i'm proven otherwise, i consider her to be flawless
She also broke the record for most wins in a season.
Yes, he says 17 at 1:48 but left out the WIN word.
That was the unseasoned version of the running man🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great skier. Great personality. I'm pretty sure that Jimmy likes her!
What’s there not to like ?
We love you Mikaela - always and forever!
Mikaela skijing really great,nice,easy..
In the world cup races!

Just going to be nit picky on one little thing .. the photo of her so called “ crashing” she is actually doing something called a double cross block which is becoming more common in a dual slalom format which this photo was taken from.. this girl.. she doesn’t crash very often if ever haha
Only people who know ski racing would know that. I was a little POed about that also.
I don't believe she's ever crashed in a World Cup, Olympic or World Championship race, at least not since her first year, when she DNFed a lot of GSs.
Jimmy, come to Santa Fe. We have great instructors!!!🌨️❄️
She's seems really cool, maybe run into her one day up here in mountains (Colorado). I could name a dozen more that have an attitude image that follows them, one even a bad tipper out to eat.
It would be cool if Jimmy learned a lil but more about ski racing before interviewing the best in the world :/
Americans basically know shit about ski racing, they pretend experts during olympic games. What a shame.
You wna know why? Because until they got the best in the world, America didn't give a **** about skiing at all. But thats just sport preferences, dont judge people by them. I'm just impressed how she wasn't mad about his missing knowledge.
@@YoDaPro Before Shiffrin they had Miller and Vonn. Also Mancuso, Rahlves, McKinney. I can add many others.
@@regiment589 my bad. Still its not very popular. Same goes for american football in Europe.
@@YoDaPro Because handegg aka American football, plain sucks. We have rugby, a gentleman sport, unlike that farce.
A True Champion.
Please invite Marcel Hirscher. I'd really love to see him shuffel. Love your ease, Jimmy!
A role model for humanity! Thank you!
Cool day great vid Jim k best wishes 😊
Let’s shuffle babyyyy
Jimmy is crushing hard. Watch out Nancy!
Mikaela is the next queen of skiing!
She's the current queen of skiing.
Next?!
Wow, when I first saw this I didn't realize who it was and thought it was a super model. Absolutely amazing athlete.
17.. Now it's almost 100 =) It's insane
I named my daughter Mikaela, I think it’s a beautiful name 🌹❤️

Girl from Vail gives away an Icon Pass... Nice.
Beautiful talented soul
Who went back n saw that game
Omg she’s amazing ❤️
Future legend 💪
I guess in a way already a legend. She is in her way to break all the records
Great role model for kids/girls. Forthright humble, determined, positive vibes and attitude. Embodies everything good about sports and achievement.
If I remember correctly she started reading books on sports psychology at the age of 9 because she felt bad the day after a sleepover. She then got obsessed with making sure she was in the best physical and mental shape every single day. Like Aristotle said, "We are what we repeatedly do, excellence then, is not an act but a habit." Get after it people
I think jimmy has a secret crush 😂
She and Petra Vlhova are the best ! ❤️
@silvia giraskov
Coincidentally, Vlhova won a giant slalom in Jasna, Slovakia with Shiffrin in third place.
Is that down to the delay at the starting gate?
Awwe, she's a sweet person.
Cool awesome show
Question: do you Americans took notice of alpine skiing only with her, and maybe before a little with Lindsey and Bodie Miller? To me, who I have followed alpine skiing for the past 40 years or so, she is an absolute phenomenon - she has the potential to become the greatest female skier of all time. So far it’s still the Austrian Annemarie Moser Proell from the 1970s and early 80s, I don’t think Vonn quite caught her (Vonn maybe second, Vreni Schneider from Switzerland third). But Shiffrin can catch her. She may even be able to catch Ingemar Stenmark.
She will break 100 world cup victories.
