Mister , Keith Byrd , “So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide. Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none. When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision. When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. I met several Vietnam war vets. The one I remember by name is Colonel Paul Longrere US Army Green Beret. He was in a spec ops camp near Khai San. Only a few men left that camp alive.
My papa stormed the beaches of Normandy in WW2... On Juno beach where the canadians and british landed, a small contingent of Scotsmen were there as well. My papa was sent in with this contingent...He told me .. Never in his life past, present or future, had he ever seen such absolute bravery and courage in the face of ultimate evil...
Mein Opa war ein Stug III Kommandant und hat das Lied immer gehört wenn er von Einsätzen heile zurückkam . Das Lied bedeutet den Männer unter seinem Kommando sehr viel
I am Turkish, but this melody influenced me, we all used to be soldiers, now I am 50 years old, the soldier has no nationality, it has dignity and dedication to uniform
My fave character in this film, was the old Sgt Major, Plumley. Be there, done it, long before Vietnam. He was the rock upon which the Colonel & the Regiment depended. Fighting close quarters with just a pistol. What a man, what a soldier. Never mind the politics, think about those who had to go & fight, honour those who did not come home, treasure those who did. My Dad,British Paratrooper,D-Day veteran,he survived, had a long post-war career, married & had children. I am humbled to be his son.
I am from France. My Uncle and Father both went to Indochine or Vietnam and fought there. Lucky they both surived that war. My respects to the Americans who had to go but did not come back. As well as the Australians, New Zealanders, Thai and Philippines soldiers and South Vietnamese.
Thank you for volunteering. I was 19 when I joined of all things, the US Coast Guard. I went to the Navy recruiter because if I had to go to Vietnam I wanted to go doing what I knew best. He said, "Down the hall, the Coast Guard. They are the ones running the patrol boats." So, I went down the hall and signed up. Halfway through basic we were told, "Everyone with a billet to Vietnam see the Yeoman for reassignment." That was October 1974. So, I went to Alaska and saved a few crazy fishermens lives. I do respect those who went and came home. My son included. The 101st. You didn't have to go but you did. Twice. Love you. DAD.
I too, was once a soldier, now retired. Lost friends, in LOD, I missed them. Sacrificed their lives for other to live in peace. May they test in peace.
They would all think different if they did experience it.. Nothing to do being a Rambo or John Wayne.. Fear is the only word I can think of about going into battle,, I`ve had my share of them, never again..
I don't know about that. I volunteered for a second tour in Vietnam. There is nothing like it. I would say that most do not like it, but you'll never get a rush like that anywhere, ever.
My grandfather was a Canadian Airforce communications operator in Vietnam. He really wanted to be a pilot, but he had a medical condition that prevented him from flying. I never asked about his time when he served, but I knew there were things he heard over the radio that haunted him, just by the way he'd react if there was static and crackling if a radio station didn't come in clearly. He passed away from cancer and few years ago, but I still miss him so much.
Im from Sweden and we havent had a war in a hundred years, but Im very proud of all the swedish soldiers that the UN has sent to Afganistan. I think they are doing a very good job.
THIS MUSIC IS GRAND. I DID NOT GO TO VIET NAM, MY DAD DID, 3 TIMES. CAME BACK WOUNDED. I FOUGHT AT ANOTHER TIME AS AIR CAV. DEATH IS NO HOLIDAY. THIS COMBAT AS ANY OTHER, WAS IN THE MOST EXTREME UGLY. OUR SOLDIERS IN ANY WAR DID THEIR JOBS. PLEASE GIVE RESPECT. TO ALL VETERANS. FUNNY THEY, VIET NAM, WANT US BACK. MAYBE THERE IS HOPE FOR THE FUTURE.
There's only one colour in the military, and that's the colour of the uniform you wear. There's only one creed and that goes "I am willing to lay down my life to save the lives of my mates, as they are willing to do the same for me."
I am from ex Yugoslavia too. I also saw war, my hometown and my country were under bombs. NATO bombs. I was a refugee, my bus was checked-out on every military and police check-point, i was angry too. But maybe you have seen much worse things, maybe you lost somebody, maybe your home i don t know. If i insulted you i deeply apologize to you. Then we both know that war is not a video game, in a real war you can die only once. You ask me for the point of this movie. WAR IS WRONG,WAR IS HELL.

For the rest of us, just listen.
***** well no shit sherlock
That is so so true friend
well there a many nation who spill blood to defend Nation ex. Poland 1939 to 1945 we were part of that shit than after that 40 years of Soviet
it is pure chaos. nothing moves in any kind of predictable fashion.
I listen. As an Englishman that has never experienced war, I listen. All I can do is listen. Until I witness that of these soldiers or of 1993 Somalia, can I only comment.
This is a very powerful song, makes me cry a little for my grandpa that was in that same war.
My Dad was a veitnam vet he passed two months ago,79
rest in peace pap.... thanks for your service. ww2(Pacific army infantry) Korea(infantry) Vietnam(air force) I won't ever forget you and hope to be a great Marine as you are a soldier.... rest in peace pap see you later. 1923-2016......
Well said, Wyatt.
Who's Wyatt?
***** thank you sir! But not even I would call you a ex soldier. You are still serving your country every day and your service to your country is always needed even in Germany today. Once a soldier always a soldier. Thank you for your service to Germany and the NATO forces and the western world.
respect
Matt I bet he was a great man. Better than the men of today. May he rest in peace.
this song is so good and deep, reminds you of all the brave soldiers who sacrificed their life for their brothers in arms and their country!
Nikt Ważny yes that was kinda messed up, the "war against communism", but at the same time they were just soldiers following order
This song has haunted me ever since seeing the movie. So thankful you have it here..found it at last!!
Thank you
It haunts all of us that have been to war... 2X in Iraq...
@@bwest1869 Thank you for your service.
It aint no joke, Shari
There is much to be thankful for in The United States of America.

English Translation
Lay me down in the cold cold ground
Where before many more have gone
Lay me down in the cold cold ground
Where before many more have gone
When they come I will stand my ground
Stand my ground IÂ’ll not be afraid
Thoughts of home take away my fear
Sweat and blood hide my veil of tears
Once a year say a prayer for me
Close your eyes and remember me
Never more shall I see the sun
For I fell to a Germans gun
Lay me down in the cold cold ground
Where before many more have gone
Lay me down in the cold cold ground
Where before many more have gone
Where before many more have gone
In memory of Sgt. Charles Stuart MacKenzie
Seaforth Highlanders
Who along with many others gave up his life
So that we can live free
We will remember them
Thanks for this my friend
They grow not old as we who are left grow old,age does not weary them nor the years condemn,at the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them.In tribute and with the deepest respect for all those who have merely gone before.
Which language? Gaelic? I am Croat,i do not understand ,please translate,Hvala!
I don’t understand why you needed to write it in that odd way considering it’s all in English just with a heavy accent
I guess it is scotish
I repeatedly listen to this song until tears start to form.
Last year at the hospital I work at one of the patient's husbands was a 93 year old Marine. I only knew that because of his cap. I stood in that room and said in a loud voice. "This here is a true Hero, will we never understand his sacrifice, or the freedom we have today because of what he and those like him gave up." And I shook his hand thanking him profusely and looked him in the eye, and he just gave me a nod. That was enough.
When they come, I will stand my ground, stand my ground, I'll not be afaid.
Alot of Irish died in the war. An alot if Scottish brothers. God bless them. May the Lord Father bless their souls 🍀🇮🇪🍀➕
Amen, brother...US Army Ranger veteran..(1991-2000).( SFG 2001-20011.) Much respect to ANY warrior...especially to those that have given everything for defense of home, peace, and justice. Rest easy, brothers...rest easy.
Old men send young men to their deaths fact of life the rich get richer the average Jo blo don't. Shit thank you dick Hamer for sending 1000s of Aussies to there death and Ur polling protected there own kids bloody scumbags
"I will be the first to step foot on the field of battle, and the last to step off"
And, "..You aren't going to get any pictures down there son" Classic lines from a classic film
it's a British world war one song. but a fitting song for all soldiers who die serving whichever nation they serve
Third reich ? WWI ? you're sure ?
olive0655 most german soldiers were just fighting for their country and the threat of russia advancing to berlin raping german women and children.
it is second reich in WWI ;)
More accurate would be that it's a Scottish long poem from a highlander in the trenches watching his friends get slaughtered.
my great great grandfather was an ambulance driver back in the first world war and died pneumonia nearly a year after the war ended. Rest In Peace great great Grandad.
For all the wars and for all the soldiers who fought in them. My father Monte Cassino in World War 2. My brother who fought in many "conflicts" and died young.
👍🏻
This is always why i thank a veteran or solider for their sacrifice they may not make it back to their loved ones alive, from the bottom of my heart thank you to those who have fought and died in the line of duty to keep America and its values free
saw this movie for the first time when in was in basic training in the Belgian army and up and till now every deployment i did i would play this song the night before in shipped out like a good Luck charm
Gives me chills every time I hear it.
We were and we are, though I am a Marine we were and we are BROTHERS.
Semper Phi Brother.
I was a door gunner with the 1st Cav. Div. 229th AHB in Vietnam 68-70...
I met several Vietnam war vets. The one I remember by name is Colonel Paul Longrere US Army Green Beret. He was in a spec ops camp near Khai San. Only a few men left that camp alive.
This dirge always brings tears to my eyes!
My papa stormed the beaches of Normandy in WW2... On Juno beach where the canadians and british landed, a small contingent of Scotsmen were there as well. My papa was sent in with this contingent...He told me .. Never in his life past, present or future, had he ever seen such absolute bravery and courage in the face of ultimate evil...
visited the cold ground of hurtgenforest recently. laid down a flower for the soldiers, who never left it.
A too often forgotten battle. Meatgrinder.
Mein Opa war ein Stug III Kommandant und hat das Lied immer gehört wenn er von Einsätzen heile zurückkam .
Das Lied bedeutet den Männer unter seinem Kommando sehr viel
Hearing this its impossible not to feel sad for so many that gave their lives for a cause
I was there for Desert Storm this always brings tears to my eyes
Same here Brother!! Thank you
Sgt. Mackenzie, Im reading the book now. Its astounding, very touching and very interesting how Moore describes everything.
This song is a solid favorite of Steve's and mine. This movie explains a lot in true form. Listen - learn - forgive - love.
I am Turkish, but this melody influenced me, we all used to be soldiers, now I am 50 years old, the soldier has no nationality, it has dignity and dedication to uniform
Well said comrade.
My Dad,British Paratrooper,D-Day veteran,he survived,had a long post-war career,married & had children. I am humbled to be his son.
Rest in peace LTG Hal Moore my brother...Your fight is done...May your soul rest in peace for eternity
Thank you to all the soldiers that have fought for our freedom.
And kept our freedom.
Thank you all for your valiant service.
Did Vietnam attack the US?
To the bravest people on earth I salute you!
I am from France. My Uncle and Father both went to Indochine or Vietnam and fought there. Lucky they both surived that war. My respects to the Americans who had to go but did not come back. As well as the Australians, New Zealanders, Thai and Philippines soldiers and South Vietnamese.
AS AIR CAV, THIS WAS THE FIRST OF US, THERE IS NO OTHER . WE AS SOLDIERS WERE AS ONE. WE WERE ALL AMERICANS!!! THANK YOU TO THE ONE WHO HAVE FALLEN...
Marine Corp Artillery! 84-90 I was 17 when I answered the call of duty.
alphadogapril1967 amen to that i was 17 when i joined the British Army. Former tpr byer.43 Wessex brigade UK
Twice. Love you. DAD.
That was a fun video game, for sure.
Religion seperates people, Faith brings people together!
I too, was once a soldier, now retired. Lost friends, in LOD, I missed them. Sacrificed their lives for other to live in peace. May they test in peace.

Dave Vlutters Magnifica !
both of my great great uncles were killed fighting on the german offensive in WW2 god bless them both
@simi0756 Its called SGT Mackenzie. Its about a scottish soldier fighting in WWI. He is speaking scots english
War is liked by those that has never experienced it
They would all think different if they did experience it.. Nothing to do being a Rambo or John Wayne.. Fear is the only word I can think of about going into battle,, I`ve had my share of them, never again..
Exaktly just like our politics the shit of the world!!!
As Plato once said "Only the dead have seen the end of war."
Les vrais soldats n'aiment pas la guerre, ils aiment leur pays et font juste ce qu'il faut pour le défendre contre ses ennemis !
Rest in Peace General Hal Moore, a true American hero.
Im from Sweden and we havent had a war in a hundred years, but Im very proud of all the swedish soldiers that the UN has sent to Afganistan. I think they are doing a very good job.
Love this song, pure dead brilliant.
i have been looking for this song since i saw the movie, and every time it takes me to tears. I solute all soldiers of this world!!

To Mel , I think you did a Great Job acting as the late Hal Moore🇺🇸 RIP Soldiers RIP Soldiers🇺🇸
There's only one colour in the military, and that's the colour of the uniform you wear. There's only one creed and that goes "I am willing to lay down my life to save the lives of my mates, as they are willing to do the same for me."
I was almost sniped down in '92 with 6 years of life, still got the bullet grain. Scared as shit even today...thx chetniks
Melhor filme de guerra de todos os tempos alguém em 2020

This needs to be played loud all over Australia 🇦🇺 today.

Lituji životy těch statečných mužů, jsem zbabělec a nikdy bych nepoložil život za cizí věc. Jen já a můj osud mi říká..PANE!
