I'm pretty sure that the first Engl amp I ever heard was this model and I was really impressed with its combination of crystal clear clarity and rich harmonics with plenty of overdrive. I'd have to say it's an underrated classic and I'm looking to add one to my amp cabin.

Great playing indeed.... a few questions: How is it different than the Gigmaster? It sounds meatier and as if there is more gain, but the tubes and controls look exactly the same. Also... how did you record the song? With the amp in the room being milk-ed and you not wearing headphones, I don't see how it would be possible to actually record the performance we saw here. So, was it playback and you actually tracked it somewhere else? I know I know... details.... but we use these videos to judge the products we want to buy and being truthful them is important to us.
EytschPi42 Thank you for your interest in our new RockMaster amp! The difference to the Gigmaster is that we wanted to create a specific sound for a specific style of music. So we decided to make one amp for Rock and one for Metal music. The fine tuning was made as always by asking musicians we work with for their personal opinion of what really is important for that. Collecting all these thoughts we finally said that the RockMaster compared to the Gigmaster should be closer to an all tube amp. So this amp has got one more preamp tube than the Gigmaster which gives you a more authentical tube sound. Additionaly we also added the digital reverb that we also have in the Ironball. I hope this explains the main differences to the Gigmaster. Regarding your second question we do have a PA System (Bose L1) in our studio that plays the playback songs really quiet while we record the videos. In the mix there is no chance to hear it in the end. The mic that records the amp is opposite to the PA. I hope this will answer all your questions. All the best Martin

ENGL amps Hello! Wow I think the RockMaster it is a Killing amp! How is this lead channel from the IronBall? Which of this two amps would you recommend for Ozzy, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica kind of sounds? +Ma Rio Hi Mario.... you can't see any demos with the Gigmaster because, when i tried it, it really didn't sound great with pedals... it came out kinda muddy and flabby. I have a video on my channel where we sent three different pedals through a variety of amps to illustrate how much the amp influences these kinds of videos and to show that any demo video is just an estimated of what you can do with a pedal... the Gigmaster really didn't come out on top here... it is a nice little amp. but I was kinda disappointed there... You can look for it on my channel....
Wish it had 12” Celestion Greenback or Vintage 30. As for the head version - it’s the best ENGL of all time. It’s literally the JCM800 on steroids and it’s made in Germany!
does it have enough gain for modern metal/metalcore? thinking between metalmaster and rockmaster. I Like the distortion of the metalmaster a lot but I Love the clean sound of the rockmaster though..
@ENGL: When you activate the MID Boost: - do the MID knob stay active and the mids are boosted - or the MID knob is no more active and the mids are set to a unique high level that you can't change? Thanks. When the MID Boost is activated, I don't notice any variation any more, when I turn the MID knob...
I came here to exam these perfect ENGL amps for heavy metal(ish) songs, and I ended up buying Into the Open album... wao awesome songs!! Anyway... I'm really trying my best to decide from videos which one should I get, Ironball, Metal or Rockmaster.. I have no chance to go in a proper shop to try these amps, unfortunately. I need the same\similar sounds what Lordi, Shakra, and 21Octayne represent, but I'd also love to play something more dead sometimes... what do you think? Is this amp would be my best choice? Thanks a lot!
Hello Toth! I really think if you are into Rock AND Metal, the Ironball is the perfect amp for you. It has got everything a Rock and Metal player needs and on top a fantastic clean sound with build in Reverb! You will enjoy it! I´m sure! All the best, Marco

Btw I know it's a one step up, But you have more experience with this. I saw a good deal if I want to go for the Fireball, but to be honest I only want to use the amp in my room, for home recordings and practicing so I don't know if it's really worth it. Thanks!

Marco Wriedt No, I hate the saturated tone of the metalmaster. Maybe it's better to get this one with pedals. I just like a very organic and dark distorsion with the best sustain possible.

Kranscher I think the Metalmaster would fit this type of music better (Metalcore) especially with the scooped mids etc. 🎸
