My question is, how do you separate these students of Harvard from Harvard? It seems to me that they are to some extent products of Harvard, taught by Harvard professors, somewhat becoming products of a Harvard environment, (forever come to believe that we are either products all victims of our environment) I have been on this journey for 70 years, and when I attended University of Baltimore County, back then my professors would applaud my efforts to becoming a free thinker, a person of reasoning, and I must say that I have noticed that when the age of faith begin to be our only requirement, reason begin to fall forcing us to become part of the herd, so say so sad.

I personally find that it is because no one has any control over the other, be it institute's influence on the individual or the other way around, that the right to disassociate from statements that the organization and individuals do not agree with should be held at the same level as freedom of speech. (be it responsibility of both individuals and institutions to take responsibility for their own opinions or to safeguard others from exercising said free speech) The consequence of joint responsibility imo will only make institutions more oppressive to enforce the ideals of their leadership to appease the stakeholders of the leadership and would degrade the protection of freedom of speech that all institutions should hold sacred towards its members.

Of course they read it. They just never counted the cost or thought they would be held accountable. Convictions suddenly 'weakened' as they realised their careers might be affected. Thats even worse. Harvard to the rescue painting them now as the 'poor victims'. Harvard tries to make a villain of the right to know the signatories and a virtue to hide it in the 'noble' cause of 'protecting' the poor students. Imagine that - you put your name to a document but dont want people to know who you are? Or they thought their disgusting support of terrorists would somehow be perceived as noble until the consequences of careers being affected became too high a price to pay so - " I didn't know what I was signing" Perhaps Harvard could introduce a 4 paper course in the senior years? 1) dont sign a document till you read it and understand it; 2) If you sign it, stand by it and dont be ashamed; 3) Accept the consequences of your actions like grown ups; 4) Dont cowardly try to hide your identity if you are asked to be accountable. Maybe 5) If you support terrorists, most people would rightly see you cheering on the slaughter as if you were there when it was happening - so, your signature is a testament to who you are unless 6) You take full responsibility, profusely apologise and grow up - but its probably too late. Because now, people will not believe you are sincere and know you are just doing that to avoid the consequences of your true colours being known and this may damage your career.

'Sickened' by Harvard's Silence on Israel Attack"
Harvard is an AMERICAN university in the state of Massachusetts in the United States. It doesn't belong to the foreign state of Israel nor does the United States. No one in the U.S. has to say anything on the subject of a foreign war in a foreign land or agree with Israel on anything. The students can say whatever they want. The cruel amorality of the institutions to which you refer is horrifying. I am a Ph.D. level scholar and longtime playwright whose lifelong theatrical education was deeply and positively influenced by very talented men and women from these schools. I never expected the plague of anti-Semitism to flourish at any American university. I am 74 years old and painfully aware of the detachment from empathy which may be at the core of our decline. Lack of parental attachment due to divorce and horrible financial pressures on many American families has pitted our decline. So has the profanity of our everyday language: this has predictably,in George Orwell's prophetic words, "a narrowing of the range of thought". There can be no true education without the spiritual intimacy of identification with others... a condition hardly facilitated by days and nights of mechanical intimacy with electronic screens.

@Joe-sg9ll No, obviously, they attended law school. I didn't want to swim with the sharks, so why would they be suitable for me if I don't run a law firm? I received the Harvard application but honestly snubbed at bothering to apply. I wasn't interested in moving east. My closest friends went for engineering at Cal Tech, then his PhD. Another a butcher, err, I mean a pediatric surgeon. A third friend , another engineer, and a business person. We all played on the chess team in high school. You know, there is no reason to be smug. Various education and career paths have value, and they all mean something different to everyone. People and experiences, in my opinion, are of greater value than materialistic things that only rust and decay. Memories, however, last a lifetime. But that's just me, you do you. If you are attending Harvard or another similar school, I wish you much success and happiness. Hopefully, what you do or are doing helps other people along the way. God bless.

Can we stop this whitewashing of Israel's government policies and condemnation of anyone who recognizes that the situation calls for a more complex understanding and response than simply cheer-leading for them unconditionally? I condemn Hamas and feel absolutely heartsick for the victims on both sides, especially the Israeli hostages. But as a state, Israel has long bullied the Palestinians and allowed their "settlers" to constantly encroach on Palestinian lands. The Israeli PM and his policies contributed to the powder keg of resentment. His uber-aggressive response to the Hamas attack has killed and injured thousands of innocent civilians and has displaced more than 200,000 families creating another big humanitarian crisis. Violence begets violence.
