Ok, did a bit more research. Based on the manufacturer website, here is a comprehensive list of ALL sedans available from major American brands:
      -Cadillac CT5
      -Cadillac CT4
      -Chevrolet Malibu
      -Chrysler 300
      -Dodge Charger
Five cars. Two of which are pretty much the same. Another two are very similar as well. Three of which are likely to see or have seem the axe. Two of which I completely forgot about. Sad state of affairs!
Ok. After some comments, the consensus is that the list is now:
      -Caddy CT4
      -Caddy CT5
      -Malibu
One normal, boring rental car, and two cars that are literally the same just different sizes (well, the 4 only has 4 and 6 cylinder engine options).
This is really sad to see.

I have owned several of each of these over the past 30+ years. A halfdozen NCSP SSP notches, 2 Tauri ( ABC/Tobacco Control division unmarked), and probably 10 Crowns from model-year '87 (351W Henrico County Va) through '05s, including unmarked high-rank admin versions with full cloth interior & split-bench front, down to the all-vinyl hose-it-out versions without cruise control (but typically the higher 3.55 rear instead of the 3.27 usually found in the more-optioned P71s).
I'd kill to have any of the Mustangs back, and the Taurus was actually a very cool car for what it was. Dual exhaust tips and that slit in the grille were the only details visible from the outside, and the things actually handled reasonably well.
I'm officially old now, I guess.

    • @PTRRanger951
      @PTRRanger951 Год назад +10

Last year for the box was 1991, in 92 was the first version of the Crown Vic. In 93, they changed the grill on it to be open. The 1992 model year had a closed off one like the Taurus.
Been in a lot of crown vics. Owned a 1996. Been in a few LTDs and the box Caprice. Last model I patrolled in was a 2010 up till about 2017.
Nothing beat a Vic. Nothing could touch their durability. The Interceptor Utilities are nothing but trash and can’t handle bumps in the road without something breaking.
Worst decision Ford ever made. The 1998 to 2011 body style went unchanged. Now every 2-4 years something major changes on cars. It sucks.

I volunteered with started using full sized Broncos for the "rural" patrol routes in the late eighties, early nineties. Now it seems they are replacing the Chargers and Crown Vics with Explorers and Tahoes. They do make sense though, being able to haul so much more gear on top of being more comfortable. That's not a SHO, it's just the PI 3.8 (Power Improved, not Police Interceptor as it's often called.) About 65 less horsepower than the SHO, but the engines didn't blow up due to faulty cam welds like the Yamaha SHO was prone to. The transmissions were still junk, so you rarely saw the PI Tauruses go past 100k miles.

@@RockandrollNegrooh, just saw this one, thanks for the info, heres another funfact, the 2nd gen taurus was only sold as a police interceptor from 1993 to 95’, it was also the only GL models that had a speedometer that went to 140, 96’ taurus and the taurus sho broke down to much it was brought back as an interceptor in 2010

Other drivers in front of me still think my Lincoln Mark 8 is a cop car. It's white and looks like one from this generation from the front. They actually slow down and carefully do the speed limit and look for seat belts as I approach behind. I'm not even doing this on purpose. I guess some are still living in a time capsule in their own mind.😂

In 1993, Ford offered police car variants of the Ford Crown Victoria. These vehicles were known as the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor (CVPI), P71, or P7B [1]. The CVPI was a four-door, body-on-frame sedan that was specifically designed for law enforcement use. It was manufactured by Ford from 1992 to 2011 [1].
Here is some information about the 1993 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor:
    History:
After the discontinuation of the Chevrolet Caprice, Ford had a near-monopoly on the police vehicle market in the United States and Canada for over a decade [1].
The CVPI was popular as a used vehicle after being decommissioned, and it was in demand by taxi companies and others who needed a safe, durable, and affordable car [2].
Used versions of the CVPI were typically stripped of police decals, equipment, radios, and emergency lights before being sold or auctioned to the public [2].
    First Generation (1992-1997):
The police car models of the Crown Victoria in this generation were officially known as Crown Victoria P71s [1].
In 1993, the Crown Victoria received a chrome front grille and a reflector strip between the taillights. A minor restyle followed in 1995, with a new grille and taillights [1].

@@RockandrollNegro I grew up in the back of a '94 Taurus GL with the 3.8. Dad wanted an SHO but when the dealer came at him with the numbers that the Yamaha V6 was $6000 to replace (in 1994... with inflation that's over $12k today), he backtracked and got the GL, albeit with the floor shift and bucket seats option. I can imagine the average police department would rather fix head gaskets every couple of years than blow up an engine worth 1/4 the original MSRP of the car.
