  • Denton County Commissioner Precinct 2 Ron Marchant began his more than 34 years of public service as a City Council member from 1987 to 1991 in the City of Carrollton. He served as Justice of the Peace in Denton County in Precinct 6 from 1993 to 2006, where he learned firsthand the issues facing Denton County residents - an effort that would lay the groundwork for his future endeavors.
He started as Precinct 2 Commissioner in 2007, launching what would lead to a 16-year career serving Denton County through major growth, the COVID-19 pandemic, and more. Projects of note during his lengthy tenure range from keeping taxes low for property owners to the mega vaccination clinics at Texas Motor Speedway that provided COVID-19 vaccines to more than 300,000 individuals.
He is particularly proud of the employee wellness clinic he spearheaded to provide free and reduced-cost services to employees and retirees to help curb the potential for long-term illnesses. He has also been an outspoken proponent for mental health services, ensuring residents have access to food and housing, and other initiatives to ensure everyone across Denton County can meet their basic necessities in life.
During his time in government, Commissioner Marchant has served on numerous boards and committees ranging from the North Texas Clean Air Steering Committee to the Metrocrest Hospital Authority. He served as the Carrollton Christian Academy Mock Trial Coach beginning in 2004, where he has taught upcoming generations about trial procedures.
Before public service, Commissioner Marchant’s career spanned marketing, teaching, art, music, and much more. As a graduate of Southern Nazarene University, he carried on a family tradition of public service - one that he plans to continue to support for years to come.
Following the end of his term as Commissioner, he plans to spend time with his children and grandchildren while continuing to tackle major public issues in the region through advocacy and outreach.
Denton County celebrated Commissioner Marchant's distinguished service to Denton County with a retirement party on Thursday, Dec. 15. Many people wished him the best in his next venture: retirement.
Commissioner Marchant will participate in his last Denton County Commissioners Court meeting on Tuesday, December 20, 2022.
