Asya Yakası’nda Khalkedon yakınında, dipten yüzeye doğru suyun arasından parıldayan şahane beyazlıkta bir kaya. Şimdilerde yerinde Kız Kulesi. Palamutlar bu kayayı birden karşılarında görünce ürker. Sürü halinde Haliç’e yönelirler. Palamutlar için kurulmuş bir şehir bu. Ve diğer balıklar için: Lufari, barbuni, forik, palamizo, kefali...
Balıkların İstanbul’u, izleyenleri İstanbul’un balıklarının farklı çağlardaki söylencelerinin rotasını günümüzde takip ederek balıklar üzerine bir keşfe çıkarıyor. Video, İstanbul’da gezinirken gelecek, geçmiş ve şimdinin birleştiği, hayalle hakikatin ayrılamadığı birleşik zaman ve mekânda, yolları kaybettirilmiş balıkların gözünden bir deneme, Harraway’den esinlenerek bu yoldaş tür ile bir akrabalık kurma çabası niteliğinde.
According to Greek mythology, Bosporus is the place Io, in the shape of a cow, came ashore. Its direct meaning is “cow passage.” It is the road that originated 9000 years ago when cascades of flooding water connected the Aegean Sea and the Black Sea and rejoined the fish. It is the home of the fish.
A brilliant white rock, gleaming through the water from its depths, close to Khalkedon on the Asian side, where Leander’s Tower now stands in its stead. The bonito fish is startled at the sight of this rock. They gregariously turn towards the Golden Horn. This is a city built for the bonito. And other fish: bluefish, red mullets, tunnies, palometa, gray mullets...
The Istanbul of the Fish follows the trail of the myths of the Istanbul fish throughout different times in history and takes its viewer on an expedition. The video is an essay from the eyes of disoriented fish, in which the past, present, and the future interlace throughout a jaunt around the city of Istanbul: an integrated time and space where fact and fiction go hand in hand. Inspired by Donna J. Haraway, it aims to forge human kinship with this kindred species.
