      The Site C dam has been in the planning stages for over a quarter century! BC hydro (a gov't agency) has spent over $50 million on consultations, meetings, and repatriations...
      AI is a weak spined organization that doesn't have the will to actually attempt to help those that actually need their help.

      yeah AI's gone way off the 'reality' rails now , like GreenPeace has ...

      The dam was defeated as a bad idea the last time that it came up, BC Hydro's own numbers show no increase in demand that needs to be filled, projections of what is likely if California's drought is actually the beginning of a long cycle North American mega drought as has regularly happened in the past indicate that we will need the food production capacity and should be very careful with our water tables...
      The dam was stopped before for the same reasons that were ignored by the province in the findings of their own joint review panel, and the only explanation for the dam is a combination of ego, and shifting around large amounts of money that can be skimmed from every step of the way, at the expense of BC taxpayers.
      BC Hydro was released from oversight of this project by the BC Utilities Commission which was specifically formed as a check on foolish or fraudulent projects of this nature, by the same premier at whose side our current one was mentored, who passed the "Clean Energy Act" on July 03, 2010, the first day of the closed door Bilderberg meeting in Spain where other key figures such as the head executive of ACCIONA were in attendance, several years after (against his campaign promises) he sold publicly owned BC Rail at a half billion dollar loss to the benefit of his party's largest financial backer.
      Plus, Canadians keep their f*cking word, those treaties and the Royal Proclamation of 1763 are the foundation upon which Canada was established, and violation of them is to spit upon the honour of the Crown, and the settlers whose bodies mingle in the soil upon which we walk with those whose descendants we owe fulfillment of those agreements to.
      BC Hydro is a weak spined organization that is slowly being drained by a corrupt government that has shaken free of any restraint of significant nature.

    I said over 3 decades ago that Amnesty International was fucked when they tried to block the extradition of serial killer Charles Ng to the US after he was apprehended in Canada.

    What the hell is a dam going to do to to violate human rights?

      By turning prime wildlife habitat into a reservoir, on Treaty 8 land that is vital to the First Nations way of life, hence the opposition.

      craig foulds ....treaty 8 says they surrendered any claims to the land, and recognized the authority of the british monarch and the canadian government....the dam isn't on their reserve.....indians don't live on wildlife or by any traditional means, but by welfare and government handouts

      treaty first nations actually have the right to self governance inside treaty territory not just the rez which means the top half of bc belongs to them "IF" able to show the ability to govern properly the Canadian government would have to hand all control of treaty territory over and first nations to make the laws...... ive read my whole treaty but thanks for guessing

    Amnesty International is a Saudi mouthpiece so i'm not shocked there trying to keep you dependent on oil.

    All I can say is that: It's not right, especially if you are a minority, to have your home in a place and someone with power insists that you move from that place. If you want to make money - go and search somewhere else - leave the less powerful people alone.

    They're going after human rights in Canada in this day and age, what with all the PC, consultation, compensation and everything? Man, they are insatiable. And talk about biting the hand that feeds you, who cares more about human rights than us? Go focus on a real issue AI, there are MUCH worse things going on out there.

    Stay pissed Chris. I was pissed as all get out when everyone around the world wanted to do something to "help" in taking away rights inside the US. I just bought more ammo and practiced shooting an upside down spray painted blue bowl. I wrote all my congressmen too.

    Forgetting any other argument, I'm just not seeing the numbers add up. The flooding of the Peace River for this project will submerge 36 square miles of land. 11 square miles of that was previously slated to be developed as farmland which will now not happen. And the construction cost is $8.8 billion dollars for a power plant that will ultimately generate 580 MW of electricity.
    $8.8 billion, 580 MW, 36 sq mi. Compare that to the Topaz solar plant that got built in California two years ago. It's taking up only 9.5 square miles, cost only $3.3 billion dollars and will end up generating an identical 550 MW.
    I know the Rebel likes to disparage solar power, but the BC government is about to waste $5 billion that it doesn't need to, or about two-and-a-half Rachel Notleys. Why are they in favour of this dam?

      Erick Johnson maybe if we put all the "spirit bears" on bicycles hooked up to gererators????
      I know this Russian circus guy who could help us train them. Both he and the bears will work for salmon.

      Hydro power is more reliable than solar power.

    I don't understand, now you're saying it's clean energy, and in that other video you guys are saying that hydro-electricity is worse for the environment than oil sands or whatever...

    This sounds a lot like the Alta controversy that happened in Norway back in the late 70s/80s. There was a lot of outcry from both environmentalists who thought it would mess up the ecosystem of the river and harm the fish, to people who thought it would mess with the indigenous people, who themselves took part in some of the protesting.
    And as far as I know, there weren't any major bad side effects, the fish is fine, samis still exist, and people have nice and clean renewable energy. In fact, in retrospect most people seem quite happy with the outcome. So I would consider this a non-issue if there ever was one.

    Did you even bother to check to see if amnesty covered persecution of Christians in China or workers in Qatar? (Hint: They did.) There's this super helpful resource called Google, I'd totally recommend it.

    • @brendandevlin4165
      @brendandevlin4165 8 лет назад

      +Monkeysee Monkeydo of course we don't hear about it, we're in Canada (presumably). The fact that those human rights abuses are going on are little known facts in Canada at all, of course AI's coverage/activism isn't going to be big news. But attacking them for focusing on the dam *instead of* Qatar or China, is either ridiculously sloppy or a straight up lie. Just imagine how you would feel if The Young Turks accused Breitbart for covering a story instead of other stories they did cover

    I'm subscribed to RM channel, most episodes are good. Sadly, this one is a total BS. You don't own nor pay AI, so what is your authority to tell them what they should focus on. You would not like that either. Also apologizing something that there are other bigger problems is just insane. Like a thief defending himself before judge/police that he should be left free because they should focus on murders not a thief. This attitude is highly disconcerting.

    • @MiH1IT
      @MiH1IT 8 лет назад

      You are missing the point completely. Free speech means you can say (almost) whatever you want to say, but it does not mean that what you say is not pure BS. That is completely independent. If you read whole story (I spent some google time before writing, you can too) the issue is not crystal clear sd it is presented. If it concerns you that there are issues that require AI's focus, you can be active and work on those issues instead of telling others what they should do. AI is free to decide what they will work on. It's their time, their resources, their decision.
