  • In this video, I will show you how to extrude an SVG. in Onshape.
The process is SVG - DXF - Import DXF - Extrude Sketch
If you have a PNG of Jpeg, it would be possible in some circumstances to first convert from PNG to SVG.
In fact, in order to extrude an SVG. the file we must first convert it to a DXF. file so that it can be imported into Onshape.
One of many free file converting websites -

One of many free SVG download sites - freesvg.org/ol...
SVGs are graphics built using vectors. For the uninitiated, a vector is an element with a specific magnitude and direction. In theory, you can generate almost any type of graphics you want using a collection of vectors.
DXF is short for Drawing Interchange Format or Drawing Exchange Format. Commonly known as AutoCAD DXF format, is a CAD data file format.

What image are you trying to extrude in Onshape?

I have a black and white line drawing as a JPG file that I have imported into Onshape: Is it possible to place it on a surface in Onhape and extrude it without having to treace(draw out) it line by line using Onshape's Sketch tools? To be clear, I would like to have each black line of the drawing standout from the surface about one millimeter (like an ink stamp). Alternatly, I would like to have the lines to be embossed down into the surface about one millimeter; into which I can place black paint/ink to show a black design on a white 3D printed object.

@@jameshohimer2542 my suggestion would be to first convert the JPeg to an SVG file before importing. That should allow you to then manipulate the vector lines once imported into Onshape.
There are plenty of free image converters only, search for "jpeg to svg. Converter"

@@theinnovationclassroom: I converted the JPG to a SVG. Then imported it to my Document inside Onshape. Using the Import Image tool, under the Sketch icon. It shows the image on the screen but still only as a template . I am unable to get it to show as a sketch like you did in the video. Any additional suggestions? You can see the public document in Onshape under LINE DRAWING 2. Or I can supply the link if needed.

thanks for the video, I will say I'd recommend cutting your background music volume in half, around 1:42 it was getting pretty loud compared to your voice

Crazy how onshape cant import SVG and they want THOUSANDS for this program. atleast fusion360 can. theres a lot of things onshape is lacking that dont make sense for the price they want.
