Who's to say he was sober for this? He could have just been barely loaded enough to give us this gem. Ngl, DGD could have been so much more had Jonny not spiraled so far down into drugs.
^ no lie, I'm telling you, everyone goes into the studio with some aspects of vocal processing or comping, that's normal, your putting out physicals for peoples headphones car rides, you want it to be at its best but live..... its rare to see someone crush and no not every night is a singer going to be at his best, but making adjustments and still nailing, just so pure
I would go to say JC was the best live vocalist at this time. There wasn’t many singers who could out sing him without some sort of auto tune or melodyne thrown into the mixes.
Jonny still has it. Absolutely murdered it. I love how he sings like it's his last song ever. Tilian sounds like he's saving it for the next song every song.
saw him do The last should stay Dead on Sunday, I'm happy to report he STILL has it to this day. If his rnb stuff makes him happy, more power to him, but it's nice to see he can still rip those old songs wide open no problem
I saw then live when they did their 10th Anniversary Tour, & this song sounded this good, & he also sang Robot With Human Hair 2 1/2 & Times New Roman, & it was just like this man. Also, all 3 vocalists sang Uneasy Hearts & Jonny killed that too. Also, Slaves performed & I swear to god he hit every single note flawlessly. He was actually sober on that tour so he was really in his element.
Shaniqua Black this wasnt done back when jonny was still in the band. this was the 10 year anniversarry. at the end of 2015. he can still sing this way
Am I the only one that literally spends every night watching all of Jonny’s live performances? His vocals just do something for me that no other has ever done. He is the greatest, and it’s not even a competition if you ask me. This one might be my favorite.
What makes me laugh is when the song starts it seems like probably only 10% of them know what the jonny era was about. By the end everyone is moving. Makes me smile.
Damn, it's been a while since I've seen Jonny sing this song as good as this recently. I was afraid he couldn't go this hard anymore. Maybe his vocals were worn out in the other vids. Glad he's still got it!
I saw them on this tour at the New Daisy in Memphis. Jonny WAS actually sober, & everyone sounded so good. Kurt Travis sounded AMAZING on Tree Village & Happiness.
@@lizardgreen2121 Exactly - I also no longer think Jonny is best lol. I think it's all dependent on your current mood - they all fit a specific need. I can see my little head bobbing in the crowd, honestly the sound felt shitty in the actual venue but watching it back I'm so glad I got to see Jonny do this song so well
It's a slap in the face to title it FT JONNY CRAIG. A straight got damn punch in the gut. The man was the vocalist, laid down the vocals and toured for several years.
3:11 that fucking E i always wanted to hear the open your eyes high note from him live but this goes slightly beyond cant believe how clean and powerful he is, considering its after his slaves set

The whole demeanor of Jon really made me hurt; you can see how happy Jonny was to sing this being with them again, but thr way Jon was, oh boy. I haven't seen Jon be like that when he performs with Tilian. I can't.
I don't think it's necessarily the fact that he *can't* hit it live (because he's able to do that high E before the last chorus, which is like a whole step up from the "for" you mention), but I think he's just trying to play it smart in where he pushes himself for the sake of longevity. You also have to remember that DGD didn't even play until after Slaves, so Jonny had already used his voice quite a bit. He's also older now, and his voice has deepened, so of course reaching for DBM1 notes isn't going to be easy anymore.
I miss Jonny so much! The goosebumps this gives me hearing that monster voice. It’s been since DTBM 2 over 10 years almost… 💔 P.S. Jonny, fuck you for fucking this up! 👌🏻 still love you though!

You're not alone. I adore all the eras of DGD that came after him, but you can't help but get that "lightning in a bottle" feeling when you look back at Jonny and DGD.
Bend Venture I admit Kurt always sounded a little slurred and wasn't great live, but that was his thing, and I really like his style anyway. Tillian is crisper, Johnny sounds a lot stronger and soulful though. Tillian is pretty talented too.
DGD is one of those bands i think is completely acceptable to just stand and watch in awe rather than pit around during... between Will, Jonny... and there perfection as a whole band live. there's nothing quite like it tbh.
okay okay okay okay ....hear me out.....Johny was a hot mess with his scandals and his bad bad habits...BUT...JOHNYS clean vocals ..in my opinion ....was the best. He has so much control..and vocal range...and I LOVE TILLIAN BUT ........ Tillian vs Johny just raw dog SINGING .....I think Johny would win .... by a lot.
