Hey Bex, thank you so much for everything. You have made my gerbil care 100x better than it was before. I have been here since the very beginning and i'm so happy to see you get more recondition and helping more gerbil owners.
I believe gerbils sometimes can get scared by some other gerbils shadows or movements. They get spooked easily and jump to conclusions, so they don't notice it relates to some other gerbil. In regards to the tank size, it is a big issue to many future owners. Shops and most Internet articles are biased and promote small enclosures. It is really hard to buy adequate enclosures, and more often than not, hand-made enclosures or fish tanks are for most part the only solution in most countries. Thanks for mentioning my comment on bedding :)
Great Vid! About upper respiratory or pneumonia in gerbils--I had a vet who would prescribe Baytril (Enrofloxacin) and if my gerbil did not respond, he just told me to use it for another week. I lost 2 gerbils to pneumonia that way. My NEW vet offered me expensive testing (which I couldn't do), but then prescribed Baytril and Metacam (Meloxicam) and my gerbil did not respond in 5 days; she switched us to Azithromycin, but after 5 days, my gerbil did not respond. Finally, she prescribed Doxycycline (which had to be compounded at a local pharmacy) and Prednisone. It's been 5 days and my little gerbil is finally, slowly starting to recover. I guess I'm trying to say that if you have an inexperienced "pocket pet" vet, push them to give you more options. Don't settle for the first option as you may, like me, end up grieving the loss of your pet.
I don't have any 1st hand experience with Female gerbils or with pregnant gerbils, or with breeding gerbils, but it's definitely a subject I will make a note of to research on in the future.
I just found out the pet store accidentally sold me a boy and a girl instead of 2 boys 🙃 ... I had to split them up because Dante was trying to mount Templeton ( her new name is Daisy) so I'm going to get them friends I was devastated but im on the look for 2 more asap
We had the same happen. Although, we ended up with 20 gerbils before we managed to separate all the guys and girls. We had this one cute color combination of white with black ears and paws, basically a gerbil with siamese cat colors
I'm slightly confused by a comment, is the gerbil not eating and sleeping all day? Do you scatter feed or use a bowl? How are you interacting with your journal that you notice that they are sleeping all day. First thing you should do is definitely take your gerbil to a vet especially if they're acting lethargic.
I have a boy gerbil and he lives in a 10 gal tank by himself for what i see he seems fine with it. i take him out his cage and put him in a playpen he stays in there but then a couple of minutes past and he starts jumping on the corners of the playpen most often it's were I'm at and he grabs hold of the playpen and i grab him and put him back down but he continues to do it and i don't know why ( sorry if it's a little confusing).
Enjoy the first video in our double upload weekend! Thank you for all your continuous support
"sometimes gerbils just get spooked" so true! Sometimes all it takes is scratching my nose 😅
I don't even have a Gerbil, I have 3 mice and one Syrian Hamster. But I must say your channel is highly underrated
Aww mice are so cute ! Thank you so much ☺

They become really fat and go hide. Then suddenly when cleaning the cage you find a nest of naked baby gerbils. We had a few accidents...
