That's what I saw, too. The problem is he would then run into the next defender or the one after that and couldn't convert those take ons to chances on goal. Sonny needs to be looking to shoot outside the box, or just curl it to the back post, a few too many touches imo.
Skipp came on and plugged a gushing hole... He didn't outperform everyone. He massively outperformed Emerson.
Emerson was beyond shocking.
I am backing Ange because this is not his squad but how the hell did Ange not see that Emerson was out of his depth in his last two games.

There were at least two times when Kulu had tons of space to exploit but because he's only got one fucking foot he decided to go into traffic. The guy is so one dimensional it's ridiculous, I hope Ange gets rid of him.

For a business without unlimited wealth, this is exactly how foundations are built over time that ensures sustainable success. Without vision and faith, one can become champions one year and then be relegated in a few years.
This season has brought back the connection between the club, the team and the fans, and that to me is much more valuable than the league table, UCL spots, and least of all, what the competitors achieved.

Poch had only one game plan, Mourinho and Conte too. The issue is with how it's delivered on the pitch and the ideas the players are bringing, which is a result of the coaching. There's certainly something missing with the team right now in terms of decision making and following the style of play, but it's not Anges tactics; the guy's shown that he can adjust the tactics where necessary to bring about changes in a game. We'll have some changes behind the scenes in the coming weeks that'll become noticeable next season
@@briantrought567Ange has mixed up the lineup many times, even recently changing his midfield, benching Maddison, benching Richarlison. He mixes it up, but he wants the output every match and he's not getting it right now.

I think we looked better, our transition from defense to mid looked good, but we had nothing up front until richy came in. We need to be very careful about expectations, who expected 3 points here or vs aresenal, did you bet money on it? We were never going to win those games, let it happen, we looked okay for a team that finished 8th. The choice is we keep shipping managers, how many have we had in the last 4 seasons? How is that going for us? Is there an alternative? Yes, look at arteta and aresenal, how many players are on that squad now who were also there when arteta came in? Two. Two players. So it’s let someone build and have success, or keep pressing the reset button and hope for random change and success within a single season….

The issue with Royale is that he doesn't seem to posess the capacity to hold multiple ideas in his head at one time. He is fairly athletic, makes some nice blocks, can be physical and alright in the air, but any time he has to make a decision both on the ball and off, he tends to make the wrong one, or none at all.

With the high line we need VdV to clean behind everyone basically. He did it numerous times today. I'm guessing Ange values this ability more than anything as it's too important for his system.

How is it that when we had a poor back line, we played defensive football, and now that we have a decent back line, we ignore defending all together?
Defensive football was crap and Ange ball gave us hope but when we commit forward and lose the ball we are wide open. Porro is a wing back. He loses the right winger so often. We have many players who rate 3/10

Royal was the 'missing link' vs Liverpool.
Both fullback positions need attention. I’m not sold on Porro as a long term solution as I think he lets himself get too far upfield and gets caught off the play in transition. Maybe it’s just a lack of game awareness and can be coached into him but I think he is better suited to a system with 3 at the back. Ange hasn’t played 3 at the back for years, and is unlikely to start anytime soon.
It's an offensive system. The whole point is ange ball is to press high up the pitch, keep the opposition pinned back so that we only need two solid cbs to cover the odd counter attack. Currently our lack of forward play, and control of the midfield leaves that system impotent at best.
The problem isn't the players.
It's a system that's been sussed out, and is now very easy to play against.

Emerson Royal was getting murdered from minute 1… the fact Ange didn’t replace him at half time is worrying. Surely anyone could see what was going on. Think he was involved in 3 of the 4 goals conceded. To not change it and bring Richarlison on sooner also very poor from Ange. Not Ange out but he’s been miles off it …
I saw a different ending to you. Spurs had loads of half chances after being 4-0 down - Richy was good and we could easily have scored two more. However, why not be that direct from the start? Our wingers should not be on the pitch unless they can get past the last man and put in a dangerous cross. Kulu should not be allowed to cut back in ever and Madison should not be allowed to shoot because every time they do the attack fizzles out.
The previous two seasons were torture but I am very confident we can compete in 12 months time. Until then we will continue on this roller-coaster ride.

ange has no intention of changing his stupid tactics. Even though his tactics have already been explored in the league, no change in tactics is felt at all, just the same tactics. So I just feel sorry for VDV and romero. If the inverted full-back strategy is not immediately changed to a three-back strategy, it is expected that the remaining games will be lost.
Royal is always the scapegoat! Was he at fault against Newcastle Arsenal and Chelsea? Oliver Skipp will play LB against Burnley and get roasted and everyone will be on Skipp.

Royal vs Salah...... Johnson vs Arnold, Ben Davis vs Saka....... Ange is too stubborn and has no flexibility at all. Or he doesn't want to use his brain at all. He never cares about his opponents' strengths and weaknesses. He cares only his 1 formation and his 1 attacking fullback tactic. He wants to play attacking focused football, but he doesn't even have various attacking patterns. He never cares about defending and set pieces. He doesn't have any tactics about them.
That's why we conceded too many goals.
He made Sonny defend in set piece..... that made Son couldn't get the 2nd ball and counterattack fast.
Even though we have the chance to counterattack after set piece defending, Sonny is too deep in the box, so the players give the second ball to Kulu mostly... but Kulu is too slow and can't counterattack. That's how they blow the chance of a counterattack.
Truth is business wise levy has built yes a brilliant stadium, spurs have a huge fanbase, spurs have touched glory and been bloody close. could easily bar a champions league final and a freak season in 2017 by chelsea be sat with a league and a champions league under poch. But Poch knew he had done incredibly well and you needed more, when Brighton beat you and he left the club. It turned in the wrong direction towards spurs circling the winning line rather than driving through it. Spurs fans need more and should demand more its been 30 years since a facup win, thats not acceptable for a club your size.

100% agree with Ben in regards to the rebuild. Ange needs time & funds! I think the frustrating thing for most Spurs fans is how many times can we keep trying to rebuild? The one constant throughout this 23 year project is Levy & Co. Does not seem to matter if we get a serial winner or inexperienced manager. The mindset of the club is fundamentally wrong in so many ways.

I think Son takes the responsibility of being captain too heavily on his own shoulders and tries to do it all himself then gets down on himself that he can’t win the game single handed. He needs the players around him to step up and give him the freedom to try things that maybe lead to a goal knowing that if he loses possession they have his back and we won’t immediately concede at the other end.

Of course the decent coaches will have worked out how to play against any system, I don't buy the argument that we have seen it can work, that was early season and Ange showed them his hand, then shrewed managers got to work on how to beat it. There is no benefit in 'whaboutery' comparing to previous league positions and previous managers or even other clubs. I think we should be fair to Ange and give him 2/3 windows and 2/3 seasons you cannot be fairer than that. My personal view is that if he sticks rigidly to this system in this league it will be very hard to join or challenge that top 3 for the prem !✌I still bang on that I am not convinced all is well in that dressing room boys !

This is only the first year they played together, Sonny is the only one who has been consistent throughout the whole year but needs another Superstar to feed off each other. Everybody needs to play their roles, but there are no role players on the team. Before injuries players were playing much better and their roles, but after injuries they cant run, would take out Royal and put in Dragusin on D.
I hope Ange will be ruthless in the summer. Don't want to see players like Emerson, Davies, Sess, Gil play for us again ! Get them out !

skip was such a fresh breath of air when he came on, game was just such hot trash the first half with emerson and johnson playing like bots also bissoumas gotten more stable thankfully...
and why the fcuk do we not start richy?????? its just a whole different team when richy came on and son started actually getting some more touches and attacking chances,, and at one point in the second half our attack and build up was so smooth and it just happened to be the old veteran tottenham players like skip, locelso, then madders fkd it up by passing it straight to their defender,,, the older players actually brought up a fight with their experience and,, as of now i actually believe our players dont know wtf at all their own teammates will do, our players become so dull and our timings are very unstable and does no match,, its like we are alright at tricking the opponent but our own players get tricked the same amount... its quite embarrassing to even call ourselves top contenders or even top5 in the league nonetheless to put it bluntly not even a 'team'
actual utter defeat. Feel its worse than any other game previously too...Liverpool was literally just toying with us later on after subbing out like half their starting 10 squad after the 3goals, and it legitimately was a pain to watch the team get played like this like some woody and buzz figurines... i just ask for few things which is start richy, no hojberg, no johnson on wing, no emerson.

Did anyone notice that Salah appeared to have a magnetic field operating around him so that Emerson Royal could not get within 40 yards of him. Salah just stood there, Royal ignored him, and he had chance after chance. Why, in the name of Beelzebub, did we not drag Royal off at half time. If we have this wonder-back Dragusin sitting on the bench, do we not use him? As you say, Skippy changed everything and was 100 miles better than Royal. Royal needed to be helped by Johnson and one of the mid-fielders. It was RIDICULOUS how open we were on their right wing, and nobody did anything about it till Skipp came in. We gifted them at least two goals. I thought Bissouma had a great game, perhaps our best player. But overall it was a disaster.
The solution is not to get in a whole host of new players. These same players did brilliantly in the autumn. The key is to get our very talented people working to their peak on the pitch, and then to bring in two or three excellent additions. Don't give up on the six or seven very talented people we already have in the team when they've shown their worth many times in the past.
It is embarrassing and depressing to watch the team right now. And Ange's extreme stubbornness about set plays is absolutely ludicrous. One of his great strengths is that he can get the best out of players, but right now he's lost his touch, and perhaps the dressing room - who knows? I will support him a long way, but he has to shift his thinking, and not stick with strategies that don't work.

Bissuma was awful most of the time. Can't stand him. Just so lazy, can't pass properly unless he has tonnes of time and space. Can't tackle either. Shocking for a number 6. Hes out of the door for me.
Most of the players are not fit to wear the shirt . Levy needs to start buying quality instead Mediorca players. Don't think players could care less .
Game management by Ange was very poor! Took too long to bring on subs,Emerson, Sarr,Bentancor, Kulusevski, Johnson etc were not at the races! When Richarlison came on at least there was a bit of presence in the center. Bissouma had a decent game, Skip came on well, Giovanni Lo Celso deserves more game time!

I will say - whilst I understand your feelings, the team is 5th in the first season, new manager and no Kane. I am unclear exactly how good this team is expected to be in 2024 - certainly not at the level of City, Liverpool, Arsenal... it's only Villa who are currently outdoing us.
But hard assessment on Richarlison. He did well. Much better balance with son out left. Lo Celso should have come in earlier. Skipp to be given a run at LB

It's now up to Levy to step up and get the better players Spurs require to help Ange. Get rid off the dead wood.
I back Ange, because I want to see attacking football, however there has to be more tactical awareness (than I can see) in the plans. I would try a change of set-up to help defensively, to 3-2-4-1 with Cuti, VDV and Dragusin at the back … VDV as a left centre back of 3 yesterday would have surely given Salah a much more difficult time? And it would provide more cover for set pieces and when we get caught on the turnover which has happened too much lately. Perhaps Porro and Skipp as the 2, then the next problem, who is in any kind of form up front, final third has disappeared, simply have to rotate who we have (currently) …… let’s get behind ‘em COYS!

At the beginning of the season i was excited to watch us play, now, i watch the games and my overriding thought is... we are going to concede...again! Every time there is a set piece i feel we will concede. So that said, our priority signing in the summer has to be a set piece coach... or a new one of we already have one. Also, what is the point of playing Brennan on the left and Kulu on the right and Royale at leftback? That immediately unbalanced the team and made us very predictable upfront wide. Hmmm, Kulu on the ball outside the box, what's he going to do...oh, cut back onto his left🤨. Predictable, and very poor starting line up Ange. Am i alone or anyone is else tired of Angeball...it just doesn't work as teams have sussed it out and Ange has no plan B!
It can't be all the managers fault. They didn't look like they didn't wanna be there. They let the club down badly over the last few weeks.
Ange needs to continue to build a squad so players don't get complacent......don't perform, get dropped!
You need to keep the faith with Postecoglu. Taking the season as a whole I think he's done a lot mroe right than wrong and when he can improve the quality of players at his disposal I think you'll see a big improvement.

Skipp may not have talent but he is quite mature for his age. He doesn't give up like some of the players we seen today. Liverpool's 4th goal happened because some of our players gave up. They think it is about time the subs came on.

For the last 5-6 games this team has looked like Spurs look right at the end of a managers reign. Same way they looked at the end of conte, Jose and even Poch (and the entirety of nunos reign).
How much space Salah was given was inexcusable
The problem with Sonny, hes so rusty to do the things he used to do so well, he just looks so green when he tries. He often just sets people up or lays it on for others to shoot or play, hes not making things happen by himself no more like he used too. Hes number 9, he should make room to shoot on sight and be more selfish, but all hes been doing all season is playing as a cog in a team.
If anyone was dumb enough to think this Spurs team was ready to compete with decent teams, the last 3 games have proved we are a very, very long way off the pace . Next season is shaping up to be a struggle 9n this evidence

We need to trust the process. Ange has moore points than both Arteta and Klopp had their first 35 games for Arsenal and Liverpool. Ange has a very special playstyle that he want to implement. He always say that the first season wont be good. He need to get players who can play his creative attacking football. He will need atleast 2-3 windows. Remember that the last years after Poch we have had Nuno, Mourinho and Conte who all is defensive coaches.

For much of the season Vicario Porro Romero VDV, Udogie ,Sarr ,Bissouma Maddison , Son, Richarlison and Deki have been my prefer d lineup when fit. The home game vs.Chelsea allowed to look at other players in the squad, but that was the benchmark level for a balanced team play. However the consistency levels of these players has not been maintained ,nor the squad rotations able to maintain them , as a team able to compete in ,no fear attacking football , we gonna score one more than you, Angeball. Anyone looking at our end of season fixture list and not seeing as the toughest challenge, dose not know football. Sorting the out is more important come summer still ,if the squad is to evolve ,yet know that earlier season certainty, over what our best balanced side is, is gone. Nor even if will beat Sheff u. and Burnley to ensure 66 points, nor that securing 5th place? Welcome to Tottenham , straight jackets not provided , but highly recommended.

The rescheduled fixture has torn the spurs fighting spirit, b4 that the Chelsea match has to be done on Feb, but Chelsea reached Carabao Cup final that's why, another again Chelsea entered semi- final and lose at FA CUP, this makes Arsenal vs chelsea also get postponed, luckily my team won.
Our defence is good, the problem for me the defence has no team structure , son is a problem, and father Christmas comes every year , but is that enough son lost the ball three times up top which led Liverpool straight onto our defence this has become a common theme in his game he is facing the goal and does a half turn when he could jink sideways he passes back and the move breaks down. We don't have a centre forward who can link play, yesterday was depressing
I think it’s an unfair assessment that they just look checked out, I think they look like a team that has half the squad committed to playing the managers way and a few people committed to trying to do what they want instead. I think the Son up top experiment has run its course and we need him on the left with Johnson on the right and Richy down the middle. I think that’s our best front 3 that pushes the pace and creates the most chances. Maddison needs to be more forward pressing but I still think Bentancur should be starting over Sarr right now just for ball carrying and attacking threat
