  • As mega-ship enthusiasts, we have sailed on the world's largest cruise ships. So, when the new ‪@Carnival‬ Celebration launched last month, we had to hop onboard.
How does this ship compare to the competition? We break down everything we loved and hated in our Carnival Celebration review video.

CARNIVAL CELEBRATION REVIEW- What We Loved
For this cruise review of Carnival Celebration, we share what we loved, liked, and hated about this new cruise ship.
One aspect we absolutely loved about the new Carnival Celebration cruise ship was the casual dining. The ship offered so many delicious options. From Guy’s Burger Joint, to the Tex-Mex at the Blue Iguana, to fresh slices of pizza at Miami Slice, you could try something new every day.
Further, another thing that really surprised us about Carnival Celebration was the sports deck. This outdoor space is perfect for families. The Bolt rollercoaster is an up-charge but was a lot of fun. Complimentary fun options in the Ultimate Playground include a ropes course, mini-golf course, and waterpark with three thrilling slides.
Lastly, the service was amazing on the ship. For this review of Carnival Celebration, we give the crew two big thumbs up. From the bars and restaurants, to our stateroom attendant, and the Fun Squad, the crew were fantastic all week.
CARNIVAL CELEBRATION REVIEW- What Was Just Okay
Some areas where the Carnival Celebration ship was just okay included the staterooms and bars and lounges.
While a decent size, our Carnival Celebration cabin was rather bland.
The bars on Carnival Celebration did offer a variety of live music. During our 6-night sailing, there were two pub guitarists, a string trio, two pianists, a rock/country band, and DJs. While the music was diverse, the drink menus at the lounges were rather standard with not much in the way of craft cocktails like some other cruise lines.
    WHERE CARNIVAL CELEBRATION DISAPPOINTED
Sadly, one area Carnival Celebration let us down was the nighttime dining. While the casual options were great, the main dining room and specialty restaurants fell short for us.
We dined at the main dining room twice during our cruise. Both times, our entrees were not well prepared, and our starters and desserts were just average.
The fusion restaurant, Chibang, mixes Asian and Mexican cuisine. This venue is currently complimentary as well. While we did enjoy the food here, the quality was no where near other cruise lines’ specialty restaurants. The same could be said for Cucina del Captiano. This Italian restaurant, which is also currently complimentary on Carnival Celebration, was main dining room quality and certainly not worth an up-charge. So, we hope these restaurants do remain free.
We did dine at two speciaty restaurants as well. My filet at the Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse was well prepared, but the sides and starters were just okay. Likewise, I did like my lobster at Rudi's SeaGrill, but the restaurant was nothing like Rudi's on Holland America ships. With so many compliemntary options, we would probably skip specialty dining on a future Excel-Class cruise.
Further, we did not find the entertainment to be on par with the competition. For this Carnival Celebration cruise review, we went to every single show. Of the four signature productions, my favorite was the Most Magnificent Circus. However, the Celebration Central theater is a less than ideal location for shows.
In the main theater, Color My World was better than Amor Cubano. But, neither show raised to the level of RCI or NCL.
A saving grace when it comes to entertainment was the variety of onboard activities. The Cruise Director Lee and the Fun Squad offered a variety of activities throughout the cruise and always brought tons of energy!

    Phenomenal review.
I was also on the inaugural sailing of the Celebration, in a balcony room. While the room was plain, I appreciated the size of the shower. Also, I actually enjoyed ChiBang more than any other dining experience on the ship. The MDR was disappointing each night I ate there, so I gave up after 3 nights. Street Eats was delicious when I ate there. The pizza wasn’t the best (the pepperoni looked & tasted weird), but since that’s the only food option after 9:30, we just dealt with it. It’s fresh and there’s always a line. Some folks loved it, so it really depends.
Appreciate your hard work putting this together.

we were on MG over Thanksgiving, obviously the ship is nearly identical. Carnival did great with many aspects of the excel class--but the downgraded seated dining was noticed. On most cruises, our family enjoys MDR dining, and we are all satisfied with one app, one entree, one dessert. But they have obviously shrunken portions or need to work on some menus. I agree with most: on MG, Chibang is just very ordinary. It has a gorgeous space and signage---but the food is overall a letdown. The Italian seemed a bit better, I'd need to try it one or two more times. P&A was huge letdown---small meal with veggie sides served in ketchup dishes, so the whole dinner was like 300 calories. The banana pie was mostly frozen. Tbh, I question how much of *any* of the food they are actually preparing from scratch vs. defrosting from vacuum sealed bags. I mostly noticed this from our experience and vids: the chicken parm at Capitano is huge, as though it might be precooked and sealed like that. It makes no sense otherwise b/c it's like a double portion of chicken parm.
If Carnival would keep Guy's, Shaq, Blue Iguana open for dinner, that would help greatly. So I wanted to love it, and they got much of it 'right'--but I mostly came away thinking that I've done the excel class and have no pressing need to do it again. We will probably do other Carnival ships mostly out of convenience. Carnival is the main line at the ports closest to Atlanta.
I mention all this in case Carnival actually reads any replies.

I think you should have let the new cruise breathe for a little bit. All new cruise ships have different issues. The steakhouse was great when I was one Celebration in December. Also didn't seem you tried the guys pig and anchor for dinner either. Agree on beignets at Emerils. So good! The food at the italian and chibang were good. Not sure why you didn't like them. Maybe they were working the kinks out on your sailing.

We just got of our first ever cruise a little over a week ago...Oasis of the Seas!!! We loved it so much we already booked 2 more cruises lol. We are doing anthem of the seas with just my husband and I. Then we are doing Celebration with our kids and some more people from my family! I am so, so excited to see how I feel about Carnival vs royal. Like I said, we absolutely loved our royal cruise...but there are some things I was slightly disappointed with. Mainly the lack of good free dining options, we did a few specialty meals and they were incredible but I was kind of disappointed in the selection of free items. Also the fact that all of the dining options close soo early...only Sorentos and Cafe Promenade are open. That kind of ties in with my last one..the lack of nighttime entertainment that wasn't a nightclub. I wish there would have been night pool parties and stuff like that.
But overall, it was incredible. The Aqua 80 show was one of my favorite things ever!!

Carnival and Royal are different experiences for sure. I enjoy both, however, Royal's loyalty perks are the best at sea. Carnival definitely does quick food better & having the option to eat at ChiBang & Cucina Del Capitano is a plus (book Your Time dining to be able to make early reservations). I enjoy the Oasis class ships & the Carnival Excel ships the best. Enjoy Celebration!

We just came back from Carnival Celebration as our first cruise and we loved it! Your reviews are totally on point, but it doesn’t dimmed our enjoyment on the cruise.
The weird main stage design is a big no-no. We did find the shows there kind of boring and not our taste. The stage gets cut off in half so some of the show I only see what’s happening at the bottom. Whoever designed this was out of their mind…
There are many food options on the cruise. Not everything’s great but with so many options it didn’t bother me too much. We aren’t big eaters and by the 4-5th day we were so full that what they have is satisfactory for us. I am glad we didn’t go to any specialty dinning as we can’t eat too much towards the last couple of days.
I can see for people who have cruised a lot or more picky on food they might be disappointed. However the ship is brand new and gorgeous overall. It’s very modern, clean, and the service is amazing. We have great service from the cabin attendants to the restaurants and bars.
I highly recommended this ship for people on a budget but want a great experience.
Lastly, shout out to Cruise Director Lee! He is the magic sauce that makes our trip amazing. I wasn’t even thinking about the ship cruise director when we choose this ship. He’s professional, charismatic, charming, friendly, and very witty. All the shows that he hosted, he elevated the quality of those shows, even though they were pretty basis shows. Whenever he’s not around, you can feel the void. Carnival please give him a raise!

Was scheduled to sail on Celebration earlier this year but after sailing on Mardi Gras the year before, we switched to the more traditional Magic for our annual cruise. I agree that the Grand Central concept is disappointing in that for such a large space the number of seats with good views is severely lacking. We found the food on our Magic cruise to be very uninspiring as well. Although the offers I get from Carnival are very attractive I believe we are going to try Holland America next. Great info and videography...thanks!

I was really surprised at your interpretation of Celebration. I can tell you traveling Royal Caribbean was a complete disappointment to us this last week we were on allure of the seas, and it was the worst experience. When it comes to food It was disappointing. I don't understand why the only place and way you can get decent food on Royal. Is if you pay an extra up charge for it, it was incredibly disappointing. I was surprised because you were rating free venues up against Royals pay service restaurants. Maybe it was just starship, but the casino even offered us a free cruise and we turned them down. I just cannot see why someone would be loyal to Royal. I hope for everybody else is sake it was just a one time bad experience.

Hello - Honest review having sailed the ship just last week:
    1. Causal dining options are great and plenty. Probably the most that any cruise line or ship. Street Eats on Port days just operates for 2 hours is NOT an option when you return from port. On seadays it is open for 4.5 hours per day. Pizza and Big Chicken are great. Buffet is small with limited options. Only one side of the buffet is open even during peak hours. Cucina Del Capitano has been downgraded on this ship and made a free option - food is served cold, waiters are not trained to serve for fine dining and was a disappointment. ChiBang was better. Carnival has NO table cloth on any dining restaurants, MDR's or even specialty restaurants except for Rudi's Seagrill which frankly is not worth at $48 pp. Shrimp cocktails are not served in a cocktail glass but in a petri dish, though shrimp was always fresh. There is an acute shortage of wait staff for drinks except by the Latitude bar where there is someone who approaches you all the time. Guy's Pig & Anchor really needs a rehaul on its food. It was just okay at best and not the best place to dine. They have even downgraded the 4 signature sauces on the table. One of the least favorite places to dine onboard the Celebration.
    2. Carnival continues to not have glass enclosed smoking areas in the Casino and everyone is forced to walk through dense clouds of smoke to get to the theatre for shows. SHAME THAT CARNIVAL CONTINUES TO NOT TAKE THE HEALTH HAZARDS AND DANGERS TO SECOND HAND SMOKING SERIOUSLY EVEN ON ITS LATEST MEGA SHIPS.
    3. Nikola is a good bartender that also works at the Alchemy Bar in addition to the Golden Jubilee bar but quite frankly is very overrated, cheeky at times, corny and I got much better service from other bartenders. Good luck trying to get a Mojito on any of the bars. The Havana Bar has it listed on the menu but was told they do not have mint to make the drink. Really!!!
4.The 3-level center stage is an awesome addition to the ship for shows. However the seating is extremely impractical and just pathetic. There is only one tiny section (which I will not mention) where you can sit and see the entire stage and see the entire show and performers on the center stage, the small round stage in front and the acrobats in the ceilings. All other seating areas will force you to give away 1, 2 or even more aspects of the show. Fights breakout almost on every cruise (including the very inauguration transatlantic cruise 4 weeks back). On the Jubliee I seriously hope they fix this hopeless design and allows guests to use this great center stage in a civilized and dignified manner.
    5. Lee Mason is a great cruise director. Unlike the last cruise director on the broken and horrible Carnival Vista, Fire Kyndell that was overly in your face and even talking continuously during presentations, Lee was fun and had the class all around.
    6. The Tides pool by Big Chicken is always filled with children and hence very few adults. We avoided it as the hot tubs were filled with children all the time (guess you understand what I mean 🙂)
    7. Hot tubs throughout the ship are large and accommodate a lot of people. However the temperature is barely warm and not hot enough.
    8. Embarkation and disembarkation is a breeze and hands down the best. Very well done. Still gives me the shivers when I think of the 3 hours embarkation line for the Carnival Vista at the horrible port of Galveston, TX. What a pleasant experience with the Celebration. Carnival once again well done!
    9. Adults Serenity area is great.
    10. Activities were good. Comedy shows were just great. Karaoke was surprisingly underwhelming and almost felt like an after thought.
    11. The piano bar looks good but the "star performer" Eden was disgusting. He was completely drunk, expressing political opinions, spewing the "f-word" and slurs after every song he played. We left within 5 minutes. No class whatsoever for a piano bar. Carnival should address this asap.
    12. There are NO power chargers near the bed. There are a few USB ports though. Compromising on power charging ports near the bed was a HUGE inconvenience for us as the USB ports were not as fast charging. Additionally some of our devices were USB C devices.
    13. Entertainment is okay but not Broadway caliber shows. Just like every Carnival ship they have one band group that performs all the shows. They added a few extra performers for the acrobatic section on all shows as needed. Very basic and frankly low quality entertainment. A disappointment on all Carnival ships. Given some Carnival guests only sail on the Carnival given their economical prices they may be happy with the shows as they have no exposure to the high quality shows on other cruise lines like Norwegian and Royal Caribbean.

And to add the elevators are horrible and dangerous since the inauguration sailing 4 weeks ago. The doors will not open at times after the elevators come to a stop. One night I was along and had to call for help on the call button. On other occasions the elevators will suddenly shift from going up to down or vice versa. Word on advise do not get on the elevators alone!
