Thank you so much for making this video. I used this exact setup and caught 5 small Blacktip and 1 Shovelhead as well as several other species. I had some difficulty with the Haywire twist but managed to make a few rigs. I was able to use only 1 while I fished for 2 weeks in Belleair Beach, FL near Clearwater Beach. I never had to worry about my line breaking. I did need to put a second bead between the tag and weight swivel. Thanks !!!
Ur videos are the best bro, I followed this video and ur fg knot video and landed my first big shark which was a 5 foot lemon shark. Such a rush and now I'm addicted to land based shark fishing. Ur informing lots of people , keep them coming
Last year I got 153 different species of fish however, did not have the knowledge to catch sharks. Also I lived in Iowa lol recently moved to Florida and I’m really missing ice fishing so I decided I would look into this shark fishing as a substitute, This is the first video that popped up. Thank you love it tight lines.
Thanks for watching Chris. I can give you some pointers right now. For lures: Any swimbait: Spoolteks, Storm swim baits, DOA Baitbuster etc. Soft plastics: such as DDX, Hogy Plugs: X-raps in size 14 I like the glass ghost color, Olive and sardine blue back colors Jigs: Firstlight go 1oz Tide: you want to be there last two hours of incoming and first two of outgoing, so fish around the high tide mark. I like to fish the beach when the water is stirred up from an East wind, the fish eat better. 2-3ft seas is probably the roughest I would fish in, as it gets hard to work a lure when its rough especially with seaweed. Also when its rougher out I would fish bigger profile baits and baits that submerge such as jigs or swimbait and when its calmer fish a plug.
awesome new to this shark fishing im from ky just moved to Georgia been catching a bunch of small sharks but larger ones kept breaking off until I found your "how to" videos haven't had one to break off since keep up the good work thank you
Hi Viktor and Landshark Fishing community! For a newly addicted surf fisherman and subscriber from the midwest your videos are extremely informative and inspiring! With the intent of fishing small sharks from the beach (4-6ft) I've purchased the largest saltwater spinning reel that I can currently afford and have paired it with an 11' rod rated for 20-40lb line and 3-8oz lures. Based on the length and speed of runs on your videos I'm concerned about line capacity. The stated reel capacity for mono is 20lb: 400 yd, 25lb: 290 yd, 30lb: 220 yd. In the interest of boosting my yardage capacity I am planning on a backing of 30-40lb braid with a 130 yd topshot of 30lb mono.If my calculations are correct this should give me a total spool of approximately over 300 yds. I plan on tipping with a 4-6 ft 80-100lb mono leader and a wire rig using #12 single strand per your excellent video. I like the working end of the mainline being mono for it's shock absorbing stretch and abrasion resistance since it'll be in contact with the sand while the bait is on the bottom. Regarding my anticipated set up I have the following questions: 1) Would you opt for lighter line and higher yardage capacity? 2) I plan on marrying the topshot to the braid backing via a blood knot or a double uni-knot. Is one knot preferable over the other for this application? And is there any issue with either knot "flowing" through the guides under the tension of a hook up? 3) The same question applies to my mainline/leader connection: If using a 6' leader of 80-100lb mono w/wire terminus will a blood knot or double uni flow through the guides for casting? 4) Finally, on the shark rig video a heavy mono leader of 4' is recommended. I've noted on other videos that the heavy mono leader should be at least as long as the fish you're targeting, so if 6' blacktips are a potential target should the leader length be pushed out to 6' to help avoid "tail cut offs"? Thanks Viktor and Landshark Fishing Nation for any thoughts and advice!
Absolutely great video!Love fishing for sharks in the surf.I have been doing it for 3 years now!! Keep it up the great uploads. Good Luck And Tight Lines!!!
Thank you Gus! As soon as we get T-shirts, stickers etc made, you can bet you will be one of the first subscribers to get one free on us. I appreciate the feedback you leave each and every video.
I used to shark fish from Dauphin Island beach using either a 3way swivel or a very very beefed up version of a Carolina rig. This method seems to be the better marriage of the two. Very cool video, thanks for the info. I've subscribed.
Heading to OBX in few days: recently picked up a Daiwa surf combo, BG5000 reel on a 1002MH 10' rod. Looking to run 65lb braid and run my rig out with my kayak say 100-200yds roughly. This video was very helpful because a) I have not surf fished since I was kid b) I have never hooked into a big fish from the beach, let alone a shark c) there are so many different approaches when it comes to fishing one can loose their mind.
Great video, clearky one of the better onews I have seen. Thank you. My only suggestion is to show the finished rig at the beginning and at the end. When giving a speech, the old addage of "tell/show them what you are going to do, tell/show them, and then tell/show them what you did." Even consider including a diagram of the way the finished assemblage is put together at the end so people can pause the video to write it down or draw a picture to have when they try to do it on their own later. I have subscribed and am looking forward to watching your other videos
I Love shark fishing. The weather has not been my friend lately but I hope to get out there soon. Love the video it is always good to see another way to rig up.
Nice video, hope to try this set up in the future... keep up the good work on your videos. I am one of the many that are wanting to get into this and you truly serve a ton.
Man you make it look so easy and your haywire twist look great I am struggling hard bro mine look like crappie gonna still try an use them lol ty for the video
For ur rod arsenal I should have and keep a heaver . A 12 to 15 ft conventional rod and a conventional reel . Be glad to see a video one day of @landsharkfishibg using a heaver .
Haha dude this is my first time and I bought everything you bought and then I watched this video and was like I most have bought the right stuff because i bought what you bought
I like the 3 way setup. I usually use a bottom rig where the weight is on the main line, I tie and swivel then I tie the leader. Not sure what it's called. Nice video by the way.
Thank you, that way works well on a boat or fishing under pier, but for casting out baits a bottom rig like the one shown is the preferred way. It allows you to fish a bank or pyramid sinker, which holds bottom better and won't slide around the sand like an egg weight.
i do the same rig except i just use a snap swivel on the main line to hold my sinker...any advantage to doing it with the regular swivel and length of mono? I'd imagine it keeps the bait off the water a little better but may be more likely to tangle especially while casting?
@Landshark Outdoors great video thank you for making it. What main line lb test do you recommend for this rig? Mono/braid. Do you prefer one material over the other? Thank you for the help
I just got into surf fish and I've had this question and what I came up with is look at your rod rating and reel rating and go with at least 300yrds . I have a 10.5 ft heavy rod with a 6500 spinning reel and 350yrds of 40#.
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. My only question is the sinker..what stops it on the top side of the rig. I know it can't go any further the other way because you have the bead and swivel to stop it..What goes on the top side if I'm explaining this correctly? Thank you.
David Lora I bought a Penn slammer iii 8500 for $275 spoiled it with 500 yards 65 lbs power bro braid for $50- big water ugly stick 10” rod heavy for $75 connected the main line to a 125 lbs mono and 350 lbs swivel connected to a size 12 AFW double strands wire and size 9 circle hook
Ok please tell me you deal with a ton of bite offs. I have made this same rig and for the past few trips to Florida every shark has tailwhipped or somehow bit me off. Any help will be appreciated

But I'm trying to figure out even after the mullet run is over if fishing for shark and or bigger fish is still good here. I kinda got into the surf casting a little late as you can tell. not many weeks left. Thanks
Just got into surf fishing and saw you rig. Looks pretty good. Why cant/dont you just tie a single line to you weight? Looks like it would be less of a chance to get tangled.
why attach an 80 lb leader to 50lb reel line? I understand why attaching a #12 wire leader with large 7/0 hook to your line but don't understand why the 80lb leader to existing reel line. im from ky only know about bass, crappie and cat fishing but trying to learn a lil bout this saltwater (shark) fishing hope you don't mind the stupid question.
Hey if I was using the same set up you have on that rod.. But I was running braided line down to where the leader starts.. What pound braid should I run? I was going to do power pro super slick 50 pound should I run 65 pound braid
why did you connect the rig directly to the line on the rod rather than use another swivel or other quick disconnect method. Sorry I'm a newbie to fishing. Loved the video btw.
I use 50lb braid and I've got some decent sized sharks off the beach. A bigger issue is making sure you've got enough line on the reel so that you don't get spooled.
I am pretty new to shark fishing. I have caught a handful in the 6’ range. I have been fishing 65lb braid directly to a 3-4’ wire leader. Is that an issue? Would a section of mono and a shorter wire leader be an advantag? If so why? Just trying to learn. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
But I mean do small to medium sized sharks break off single barrel wire crimps? I hate trying to tie wire and I've caught a large sail catfish on crimps. Also sucks if 5/0 or 6/0 isn't enough, I've got a crap ton of them lol only one way to find out tho

this is really helpful for a beginner surf fisher like myself
a nighttime beach snook fishing vid with artificials would be awesome, lure selection, tides, favorite wind, surf conditions etc.. awesome vids guys!!

I can give you some pointers right now.
For lures:
Any swimbait: Spoolteks, Storm swim baits, DOA Baitbuster etc.
Soft plastics: such as DDX, Hogy
Plugs: X-raps in size 14 I like the glass ghost color, Olive and sardine blue back colors
Jigs: Firstlight go 1oz
Tide: you want to be there last two hours of incoming and first two of outgoing, so fish around the high tide mark.

Not sure if I heard you correctly, but if your fishing braid, you should go from braid, to mono leader, to swivel, to steel leader?
I don’t really use a surf shark rig alot but when I do it’s 150lb min coated cable double crimped and 7ft of that w/ 200lb max mono shock leader
And a 9/0 circle hook shock leader acts as a wind on 50lb braid mainline w avet Jax raptor as reel and an 11ft surf rod
Great stuff! Can you put one (a how to video) together for the larger rigs used on those 8+ Tigers and hammers please.
