I am the one who recorded this on my hand held Sony cassette recorder in Texarkana at Dr Jayant Rana’s home. I chased him for years to sing this and he finally did. I was sitting so close to Khansaheb that his Harmonium’s bellows were touching my right knee. What a night it was.
Thank you Hussain Saab. This is another masterpiece. If not, Immortal voice of Khan Saab and his musical genius would be missed by us. As you can notice he is singing relaxed and enjoying at the same time
Thanks for making us feel the heavenly joy of music. What singing by Ustad Mehdi Hasan sahab and what an exemplary tabla accompaniment by Ustad Tari Khan and the harmonium player. It was sheer magic. I have attended many classical programs and witnessed great performances but never have I seen such a creation of an equally ballanced performance of singing and tabla accompaniment.
How heavenly, this is brilliant, the synergy and coordination of all the artists has blended to mesmerizing performance, and I think this equally applies to the crowd that was present.
If Mehdi Hassan had just sung this one ghazal and thats it, Not one singer in the world comes close to even matching him. But he did this with everything he sang. No one should even bother to try an sing after listening to him.
However my friend though I know this fact both Jagjit and Hariharan and many others followed Mehdi Saheb, Jagjit Sings contribution towards Urdu poetry cannot be undermind۔۔
Tabla is at another level. So intricate and so beautiful. No attempt to impress with speed and "Kalakari". Compliments heavenly voice completely. Wah ustaad.
Agreed .at times tabla player try to take the mehfil by his kalakari ....however with mehdi Hasan non of his tabla player try to over do ....they rae always in supporting role...and they do it perfectly ❤

Here, in this ghazal, it was as if both of these legends had performed with their heart out raising its level to an epic proportion thereby ushering in a masterpiece ! Both of these artists had demonstrated beyond reasonable doubt as to why 'Sur'(Notation) and Taal(Rhythm) is called the Soul of the Ghazal Gayiki ! How right was Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Saab in his assessment in saying - "No one can ever compete with Mehdi Hassan Saab in so far as his control over sur was concerned !" What a marvel it was! The great Khan Saab could modulate his divine voice in umpteen number of times in umpteen different ways while rendering his creations! How highly gifted he was as a singer! We should stand up and salute these divine abilities!
In Kaise Chupaon Raaz -e- Gham, two legends-Mehdi Hassan Saab(vocal) and Tari Khan Saab(tabla)- performed in tandem by supplementing and complementing each other beautifully and the result was a masterpiece.
Such a spellbound rendering of Mehndi Hassan. Raag peelu is generally famous for the folk kinds of songs. But Mehndi Hassan has elevated it to a high level by rendering this Ghazal through his deep rooted voice.
"Ku baku phail gae baat shanaasai ki..." popular ghazal from Perween Shakar was created/composed by the Maestro himself in 5 minutes with Shaukat Hussain Khan on Tabla (a celetrated tabla nawaz of his time). So playing with words in raags was very easy for him.
Perhaps, ALLAH, 'THE MERCIFUL'. had created the Great Mehdi Hassan Saab for music alone, bestowed upon him all the attributes of music and sent him to this world. How highly endowed he was! The World of Ghazal Gayiki had lost its prime mover with his sad demise! The void created by his departure will hardly be filled!
So classical, control over delivery of words and voice. Only a person with deep knowledge of classical singing can sing like him. This art is slowly fading out.

To me it is ultimate in ghazal gayaki. It is simply beyond any praise. Not enough words in any language to properly praise this performance. The improvisations Ustad sahib has come up with is simply marvelously beautiful. As Ustad sahib says in the beginning, it is from direct connection with God, Mashallah. Ustad Tari sahib has done full justice to this wonderful performance. The live audience are the luckiest music lovers in the world.

The great Khan Saab was a master class and therefore, he does not merit any comparison with any other ghazal singer -- living or dead! He was a ghazal singer par excellence in the real sense of the term. Perhaps, 'ALLAH MIYAH' (THE MERCIFUL) had made him exclusively for music and sent him to this Earth after bestowing upon him all the attributes a ghazal singer should have! In this ghazal( Kaise Chupaon Raaj-e-gham), this master craftsman had displayed in abundantly clear terms how a ghazal could be. sung beautifully without disturbing the basic features of a raga and could be made worth listening again and again at the same time. How effortlessly could the great Khan Saab modulated his soulful voice in this ghazal to a crescendo is a treat to listen. It was possible only for a singer of his stature and caliber! Mansoor Gujjar Saab, Thankful! for your kind response! The great Mehdi Hassan Saab was born in Rajasthan, which was a state situated within the mainland India, in the year 1927(if I am not mistaken). He migrated to Pakistan, along with his parents, only after partition in 1947. His migration to Pakistan afterwards obviously does not negate the fact that he was born in the Indiian state of Rajasthan.. As Such, I presume -- there should not be any dispute on it as it was a historical fact. Therefore, it is felt that no other meaning or ulterior motive should be ascribed to it when someone says -- "India is proud of the achievements of the great Mehdi Hassan Saab". If someone takes an affront to It, it will be characterized as nothing but meanness or narrowmiindedness. It goes without saying that music is universal in appeal. It has no boundary, barrier. language. race, or religion. The great Khan Saab made us understand the true meaning of love and its universal appeal through his divine creations and made us view this World and the Humankind in an altogether different perspective full of hopes and aspirations. We -- the Indians and Pakistanis -- are equally proud of the great Mehdi Hassan Saab for his achievements as he was our heart - throb. Apart from politico - religious divide, which was a historical compulsion, we have so much in common -- music, language, culture and food habits. Khan Saheb after the clapping was over mentioned that Arjumand Bhai was chasing me for years to sing this ghazal۔ And I was But that was the evening in Texarcana at Dr Jayant Rana's home۔ He mentioned that he went into Rag Paharri and then came back to Piloo۔ So I jumped in to say its important to make sure that you come back " aiasaa na ho kay pahaar par charrh tow gaey magar utarr nahin paarahay۔۔ and he burst out laughing۔۔

To me it is ultimate in ghazal gayaki. It is simply beyond any praise. Not enough words in any language to properly praise this performance. The improvisations Ustad sahib has come up with is simply marvelously beautiful. As Ustad sahib says in the beginning, it is from direct connection with God, Mashallah. Ustad Tari sahib has done full justice to this wonderful performance. The live audience are the luckiest music lovers in the world.

mehdi khansahib ko jis ne ghazal gaate sun liya hai us ne phir kisi aur ko ghazal mein nahi suna...mere paas koi ek darjan yehi wali ghazal padi hai,tari khan k saath hi lekin yeh cheez hi kuch aur hai...lgta hai k khansahib jannat mein bethe gaa rahe hain tari khan apne fun ki height pe hai aur sun'ne wala bhi jannat k maze le raha hai...allah share krne waale ko khush rakhe...it's the best of it's type
mehdi hasan has immortalised the ghazal singing and everytime it opens spirititual domain for ghazal lovers.may god rest his soul in peace who has given ds world a source of mental relaxation.

The great Khan Saab was a master class and therefore, he does not merit any comparison with any other ghazal singer -- living or dead! He was a ghazal singer par excellence in the real sense of the term. Perhaps, 'ALLAH MIYAH' (THE MERCIFUL) had made him exclusively for music and sent him to this Earth after bestowing upon him all the attributes a ghazal singer should have! In this ghazal( Kaise Chupaon Raaj-e-gham), this master craftsman had displayed in abundantly clear terms how a ghazal could be. sung beautifully without disturbing the basic features of a raga and could be made worth listening again and again at the same time. How effortlessly could the great Khan Saab modulated his soulful voice in this ghazal to a crescendo is a treat to listen. It was possible only for a singer of his stature and caliber! Mansoor Gujjar Saab, Thankful! for your kind response! The great Mehdi Hassan Saab was born in Rajasthan, which was a state situated within the mainland India, in the year 1927(if I am not mistaken). He migrated to Pakistan, along with his parents, only after partition in 1947. His migration to Pakistan afterwards obviously does not negate the fact that he was born in the Indiian state of Rajasthan.. As Such, I presume -- there should not be any dispute on it as it was a historical fact. Therefore, it is felt that no other meaning or ulterior motive should be ascribed to it when someone says -- "India is proud of the achievements of the great Mehdi Hassan Saab". If someone takes an affront to It, it will be characterized as nothing but meanness or narrowmiindedness. It goes without saying that music is universal in appeal. It has no boundary, barrier. language. race, or religion. The great Khan Saab made us understand the true meaning of love and its universal appeal through his divine creations and made us view this World and the Humankind in an altogether different perspective full of hopes and aspirations. We -- the Indians and Pakistanis -- are equally proud of the great Mehdi Hassan Saab for his achievements as he was our heart - throb. Apart from politico - religious divide, which was a historical compulsion, we have so much in common -- music, language, culture and food habits. In fact, the great Khan Saab himself represented a composite culture.

Khan Saheb after the clapping was over mentioned that Arjumand Bhai was chasing me for years to sing this ghazal۔ And I was But that was the evening in Texarcana at Dr Jayant Rana's home۔ He mentioned that he went into Rag Paharri and then came back to Piloo۔ So I jumped in to say its important to make sure that you come back " aiasaa na ho kay pahaar par charrh tow gaey magar utarr nahin paarahay۔۔ and he burst out laughing۔۔

Absolutely brilliant piece of classically apprehended ghazal. Ustaad Mehdi Hassan Sahab has eloquently and genuinely rendered the beautiful verses written by Hasrat Mohani, through his heavenly voice. Hats off to the Tabla Player, Ustaad Tari Khan, as he did what was utmost needed to be in perfect acquaintance with the song.
