Howdy Darryl, Once again you have created a terrific instructional video and displayed your keen artist's eye. Your instructional style is effective and motivates me to want to work on a plaster building. I have always coated the plaster with flat white paint, but will try your technique on the next stone structure. Thanks!
I am happy you enjoyed the video. I used to just stain the plaster with washes, but I found the stains were absorbed differently on different areas of the structure. Using a very thin wash of a basic color to seal all the plaster works better. I used to spray my buildings with white primer. But living in Alaska for 45 years made it hard to find a good day for spraying paint outdoors. Cheap acrylics work fine for me. Next uo will be paiting a rustic brick wall using similar techniques. Stay tuned.
Hi Darryl, Great to see you making new instructional videos! Those are some great techniques. No expensive paints or tools required. Working with plaster walls can be a challenge and you have shown with patience and more patience you can build and make the difference between a good model and a show piece model. A lot of new kits use laser engraved "stone" walls. It would be great to see your techniques for painting one.
Learning to use iPhones for making videos. 20 years ago the video editing programs were expensive, hard to learn and very finicky. Making videos today is so much easier. Laser cutting and engraving has added so much to the hobby today. I love building in HO again after decades of scratchbuilding in O scale, board by board.
Darryl, another excellent video to add to your collection. I have been following your "Miners Tavern" and taken your valuable advice on building my own. Once finished will send you photos of the build. Anyway, keep them coming as you are promoting modelling for the beginner to learn from. Best regards, Mike from Scotland.
Thanks Mike. So many great videos for newcomers these days. I would loved to have had these videos in the early 1970s when we were all trying to find new methods.
@@darrylhuffman1564 Thanks Daryll. However, had it not been for you, your generation and the example you showed, the hobby would still be in the dark ages. So you can say that you were a trail blazer/a pioneer who paved the way, by example, for future modellers. "From tiny acorns the mighty oak shall grow." Cheers and thanks, Mike
Excellent technique tutorial
Thank you f for sharing your skills and knowledge with us all. I learned something new and it will be very helpful with my dioramas.
Good detail, thanks for sharing. Learned a lot. 😎
