Absolutely wicked video mate. Ski racing needs as much of this as possible. More and more exposure of how epic the sport is. Hopefully we see more of this from you at future races?
Thanks mate. Appreciate it, just want to give you guys the credit and exposure you deserve, it's awesome. We are concidering going to Robinvale now, and the views and community seem to be behind the ski racing so why not 😅
@@franko69 I'd argue there still will, if sense prevails, everyone knows the risks of the sport and choose to take part in it, to take away someones choice would be stupid imo
Hi there mate, I’m the driver of gassa, unfortunately my skier luke Wentworth was the guy who lost his life. I was wondering if you happened to have any footage of the boat at all over the weekend.
Hi mate. I've got some footage in the pits just of the engine. I can send it through If you email me at sales.jdmhub@gmail.com Sorry I can't be more help and sorry for your loss mate
Very sorry for your loss from the USA. Ski racing is a great sport, unfortunately not without danger. I know it is a tired cliche but that doesn't mean it isn't true to say he died doing something he loved. Gone much too soon. RIP Luke
Luke was a veteran of the sport probably one of the best skiers ever to run the mighty 80 km race and along with team gassa ❤ He will be missed and every year I go from now on will be in honour of Luke and team gassa 🙏 Much love and respect Nathan and team gassa
Hey Nathan. I had you as a friend on Facebook before I deleted my account. I saw the sacrifices you made as a small team on a tight budget and I am gutted to read that you have had to pass this kind of a cross road. I am so sorry this happened to you. You are a gentleman and I hope that you don't stop getting after it. Cheers. Luke from South Africa.
Man I really need a quick fix.and here's this nice bloke trying to help out a fellow addict that's badly hooked on speed boats...and now I'm hangin out even more for a nice fast sexy speed boat...
You want to slow the speeds down?' It's hands out front racing. Put the outcome of the race in the hands of the athlete instead of the engine builder. Reduce costs of racing because you won't need 2200 hp anymore. Just my 2 cents. Very very sorry to learn of the passing of another ski racer. It is just so sad and tragic. Old Ski racer in the USA
At this point I'm not sure slowing them down would help either, they seem reasnobly comfortable at these speeds, but I'm also just leaning about this sport now and it's intricacies
@pezomatic1 I raced here in the states back in the 70s. Speeds were maybe around 100mph give or take but tapered off as the race progressed. Hands out front. The winners were usually the skier in the best physical condition and not necessarily the guy with the fastest boat. It was still dangerous but not as dangerous as today with racing speeds in the 200 kilometers per hour range. If my math is correct that is around 120 to 125 mph. I have seen videos from this race where the GPS speedometer was touching 135mph. Major racing organizations of all sorts have taken steps in the past to slow speeds to make racing safer but I hate the idea of putting speed limiters on boats. To me, that is not racing. Hands out front racing, the speeds will come down but racers will still be doing all they can to go as fast as they can. One other thing also, we almost never got the chance to race on water as smooth as that river.
While I agree it could always be safer, 100mph is easily fast enough to get hurt, and hands out front if the athlete is more tired won't they be more prone to making mistakes? Just my 2c I appreciate your views and reguardless more safety in the sport is a good thing
@pezomatic1 yes, more prone to mistakes so they must slow down. Conditioning is key, which also helps when crashing. 100 mph still fast enough to get hurt for sure, but injuries became more severe when racers started wrapping up (Ausie style). Hands out front racing to me just makes more sense but I never raced any other way.. I know getting pulled from the waist makes it easier to go fast(once you get accustomed to it) but I really feel it HOF is safer and maybe more exciting. Probably never happen.
The owner / driver of the boat superman is a tosser. Doesn't know his stuff. If he believes his boat run so fairly easy at 260 km per hour is a joke and 2,200 hp is also a joke. Fastest ever actual race boat in Australia has reached 151 mph
Darren was actually super knowledgeable, both about his boat and the sport. They capped the boat speeds at 120mph during race conditions to help improve safety in the sport. Also why is 2,200hp a joke? A big block car can do that and roll around the streets, why can't a boat with unlimited cooling?
We just wanted to shed light on how amazing the sport is and how these skiiers and racers deserve more recognition. Our thoughts are with the family during this tough time

RIP Luke. He was a absolute legend and loved skiing flat out.
Seems like he was such a good guy
The southern 80 was so incredible, getting to see these crazy boats go down the Murray was amazing. Can't wait for next year's video 😃😃
Don't hold your breath, probably won't be another Southern 80 after what happened.

Next week , roller blading behind a NASCAR!
Great video, thanks for putting it together, well done. Very sad about sunday. Thoughts for the family & friends.
Devastating for the entire community. Our thoughts are with the family at this tough time

Sad this footage got posted as to remind us about the poor fella losing his life over his passion. Rip to adrenaline junkies
Who would wanna ski that fast😮
Gutsy people hey 🤣 they've got a children's and women's division too
@@pezomatic1 that's nuts mate!
The winners.
Awesome video mate, 10/10 all round
Glad you liked it mate something different
Wow I had no idea they went that fast take my hat off to those blokes holding on to the ropes😖
The adrenaline they have must be unreal
@ 4:39 it looks like tha tow rope is on those dudes backside ? if so how do they “let go” when shtf ? i’m sure they have a way to bail out ?
They wrap themselves in the tow rope to save their arms. It's an 80km race, like holding a single bar together for 80km isn't easy either
Thoughts and prayers to the whole lot of you. 🫶🏽🙏🏽 see you next year ✌🏽👋🏼
Thinking of the family and community during this difficult time.
Flat Out Getting It..
Full noise the whole time

I do what I can 🥰
Rip 🪦 Luke he was my uncle
Sorry for your loss mate
I don't know how they do it so scary
Super scary but the rush would be amazing
Just thought I'd mention if anyone feels like some peanut butter on toast and perhaps some orange juice then let me know, ill organize it. Cheers.
I'd care for an orange juice.
If it needed me
Death wish skiing behind those boats at that speed.
Not always. A lot of training involved
They take years to get to these speeds. Still super scary
They ski UP the river not down.
My mistake 😅
To much talking 😢
