In Western Australia they have a term for it. It is called being a black snake, or black snaking it when you go to bed in your dirty overalls.

Stopped at a small lorry park / services on the A63 ( near the humber bridge ) it has one shower/ toilet cubicle on the rear of the building which needs a token. I thought oh great!. What a surprise it was the cleanest I've seen and I told the lady in the services and she beamed saying " we try and check it every few hours" . To all the major chains IT CAN BE DONE !

Hi Jemma, Thanks for another great video. It really annoys me that you truck drivers don't get better facilities at the services, as your job is so important for the country. I believe it's better organized on the continent. As a farmer I'd to thank you for trying to give some warning on picking up loads. Hi Gemma, For a while I worked at a truck depot / warehouse in Melbourne, for one of the larger companies. each warehouse had a clean drivers rest area and showers. There was even a building for the drivers to sleep in, Typically the drivers would Tavel overnight from Sydney or Adelaide, then sleep during the day, meanwhile the trailers (B Double) are loaded for the return trip. However, the roadside amenities are generally poor.

Adblue - the most popular brand name for ‘diesel exhaust fluid’ - it’s sprayed into the exhaust and although I can’t recall the specific reaction it turns noxious and harmful emissions into cleaner ones. This in tune with a diesel particulate filter (DPF) means there are essentially no visible emissions from the vehicle.
Adblue is Urea. It’s creates a small amount of ammonia gas within the exhaust stream to control the emission gases. The particulate filter traps the small particles of carbon which burns off when the filter reaches a high temperature. Despite the bad press trucks get the exhaust emission is very little more than hot air with the DPF installed.
It's because of such technology that diesel engines these days are some of the cleanest ever produced. This tech is not just used for on highway trucks but also large agricultural machines like tractors and combines. Don't know much about construction machines but doubtless they would have to adhere to emmissions legislation also, so it's quite likey that industry would have to adopt the same technology, if it hasn't already done so.
Because of the high cylinder temperatures in diesel engines, nitrogen oxides are formed (from the nitrogen and oxygen in the air intake). These can be got rid of by reacting them with Adblue (a water solution of urea) with a bit of help from the catalytic converter in the exhaust. The first load was terrible, I assume the product was a bit wet and that's why it stuck together. I like the location with the overhead loading, I think this is the first time we see this method in your videos. The summer weather looks fantastic, nice long sunny days are always good in this profession. The shower situation is pretty sad, usually these roadhouses doesn't care about truck drivers, especially females. Luckily you could shower at the second stop. Here in Canada trucker showers are super clean and free as bonus of buying fuel . If the fuel company doesn’t do this they won’t get the business , money talks . I suspect 'early' for a farmer is 04:00am...Meanwhile watching your video has rekindled many memories of my decade as a lorry driver. I stopped in the early 90's and while I do occasionally miss 'the open road' I do not miss the lack of decent facilities for lorry drivers; worrying about being robbed while parked up overnight; having to stop in urine stinking lay-by's; having to go to the toilet outdoors myself. Throw in the chaotic state of the UK's inadequate road system and it's fair to say whatever they pay you isn't enough.
Gloucester services north and south i always found have spotless facilities. Truck parking is too big in Strensham north, too many drivers to abuse the facilities
Another great video, notice you’ve got a small chip in your windscreen probably ok for the time being but will need to be dealt with before your annual test. If it’s in the sweep area of the wipers I don’t think the Ministry Test Station will accept a repair. Why have a unisex shower if there are four others for male drivers. it should have been female only . Personally I think showers for female drivers should be accessed by key only obtained from the service desk rather than a free for all . Keep up the good work . X

Hi Jemma another enjoyable vid as always, I expect your really busy as farmers are getting rid of the last of the crops from last years harvest ready for this year, and it's a shame that the amenities at service stations aren't kept cleaner and in better condition and I've always thought it strange that there isn't separate showers for female drivers things might change in the future but who knows.

Very interesting perspective, I drive a lot for my work as a surveyor, and often wonder what it’s like for lorry drivers. In regards showers, I once used one at a services after a survey in a disgusting old property, I didn’t bother in the end as so filthy and awful I just thought what’s the point what amazes me is how much they charge lorry drivers generally but provide generally a very poor service from what I can see.
Hi Jemma I like your informative videos, but one thing I noticed you did which we had drilled into us as a no, no is using a pneumatic airline to blow dust off yourself @ 5:13. Reason being if you had a cut to your skin, the air could form a bubble in your bloodstream with fatal consequences. Take care, Rob.

Here some differences between UK and Aussie. We don't use grain socks, Tail gate on trailer, Working and rest times. But some showers are the same. You got you good one and a lot not good ones. Keep on tracking.

I was fortunate enough to see Olly Blogs and co coming towards me on Illumination bypass around midday and waved up like you do but I understand he wasn't filming because of some problems at the time and he was pretty shattered after little sleep at Adam Henson's but you were around an hour behind me them , always look out for you but Wain's have quite a few lorries now , Strensham services best avoided if possible ,safe trucking .
Another great video Jemma, with the amount of female truckers these days you would hope you’d get your own wash facilities. I guess a lot of services need to be updated from when they were originally built in the 60s 70s and not just have a refit of the cafe every 5-10 years or so.
Regarding showering the problem is massive here in Ireland very limited services...so i brought a camping shower and stand by suzies in summer..winter i use a bowl of water strip wash in the cab...just a bit of info on adblue did you know its pigs piss.

Drivers facilities in this country are poor in general. I think women probably have if her standards though. Facilities are paid for here but on the continent they’re germ really free or much cheaper. I feel this may lead somewhat to a mantra of ‘well if I’m paying for it someone else can clean it’ whereas if it’s free or much more cost effective people are more inclined to clean up after themselves a bit more.
@@regularguy3665 Yes you have a good point there. I have retired now after working for 22years for a large container company and the facilities that the drivers could use were on a par to 4 ⭐️ hotels in their depots. They are outstanding 👍
Lack of facilities in the UK isn't just a problem for female drivers, if you look how many trucks can park at a service area over night and you pretty much can guess what the state of the handful of showers are going to be like after the first few drivers. In most service areas the the rest of Europe, I find you have to pay for the shower, 1€ or 2€, or show an over night parking ticket if you have to pay for parking, I'm quite happy to do this for a shower that's clean and in a decent state of repair. When the country went in to meltdown because they suddenly realized there weren't enough HGV drivers, or more to the point the RHA and friends were trying to get the Government to allow them to bring in drivers from abroad, so they could get away with keeping the wages down, the government promised up to £100m for improvements in facilities, I've seen scant evidence of this money being spent. I'm waiting to see if the DfT is going to answer my FOI request, asking how and where this money has been spent.

When I did nights out I normally used to find the local leisure centre for a shower After sleeping in a few lay-bys years ago I decided not to do that any more but there were more places to stop then nowadays HGV drivers are treated VERY POORLY

Hi Jim, is Ken Morgan here as your lorry being automatic, not got a clutch pedal cause you have put you a struggle to start away from there and I have not never drove an automatic lorry. I have always been a Volvo man with manual gearboxes and you would just pull away in second low, split quite easy you are the ever needed first. I can’t understand how they work. I’ll be not drove one what do you do just put in gear and she goes or have you got a clutch pedal for the first start off my cousin has got a V8 Scania 164 and she automatic is sunrise. It has also got 410 hp eight wheeler skinny. My Josie has had a go not that has got eight speed manual. I will have to ask David when I am talking to him as that got a clutch paddle on them Track unit it is not the cab bike you’ve got it next gem. It is a 164 and he is only just done 105s km they own a scrapyard and it only goes out to caves. Neither have people taking the scrap away for them. It is a beautiful mild lorry which won’t be getting sold because they do not sell nothing. They keep itI have to ask about it I see you leave you in peace Morgan again

Hi Jemma, Love your content. I'm an Australian truck driver. I'm curious about the configuration of your rig. Is the Scania a V8 or inline 6 engine? Is it a bogie drive or single drive with a lazy axle? Do the onboard load scales receive data from load cells or airbag suspension pressure? What is the maximum legal length of your truck and trailer in the UK?

When you say your trucks dirty it's a working truck it has to earn it's keep I would say you do well keeping it as clean as you do you must do 1000 km a week she's not bad at all hope you do some blower work soon 👍

You really need a floor liner Jemma, I used to do wet lime and had one day 26t to get out by hand until this liner was fitted, then no problem.

Hi Jemma another enjoyable vid as always, I expect your really busy as farmers are getting rid of the last of the crops from last years harvest ready for this year, and it's a shame that the amenities at service stations aren't kept cleaner and in better condition and I've always thought it strange that there isn't separate showers for female drivers things might change in the future but who knows.

As a retired European driver I take my hat to you I just couldn't untake UK work boy there are days I wish I was still out there I miss the old school drivers
Very interesting perspective, I drive a lot for my work as a surveyor, and often wonder what it’s like for lorry drivers. In regards showers, I once used one at a services after a survey in a disgusting old property, I didn’t bother in the end as so filthy and awful I just thought what’s the point what amazes me is how much they charge lorry drivers generally but provide generally a very poor service from what I can see.

I like your informative videos, but one thing I noticed you did which we had drilled into us as a no, no is using a pneumatic airline to blow dust off yourself @ 5:13. Reason being if you had a cut to your skin, the air could form a bubble in your bloodstream with fatal consequences. Take care, Rob.

Here some differences between UK and Aussie. We don't use grain socks, Tail gate on trailer, Working and rest times. But some showers are the same. You got you good one and a lot not good ones. Keep on tracking.

Hi Gemma. I drove a lorry for 20 years and it’s absolutely disgusting how some off the motorway services treat lorry drivers I used to carry a pair off flip flops with me that I used to wear in some showers in services.

I was fortunate enough to see Olly Blogs and co coming towards me on Illumination bypass around midday and waved up like you do but I understand he wasn't filming because of some problems at the time and he was pretty shattered after little sleep at Adam Henson's but you were around an hour behind me them , always look out for you but Wain's have quite a few lorries now , Strensham services best avoided if possible ,safe trucking .

Another great video Jemma, with the amount of female truckers these days you would hope you’d get your own wash facilities. I guess a lot of services need to be updated from when they were originally built in the 60s 70s and not just have a refit of the cafe every 5-10 years or so.

Regarding showering the problem is massive here in Ireland very limited services...so i brought a camping shower and stand by suzies in summer..winter i use a bowl of water strip wash in the cab...just a bit of info on adblue did you know its pigs piss.

Drivers facilities in this country are poor in general. I think women probably have if her standards though.
Facilities are paid for here but on the continent they’re germ really free or much cheaper. I feel this may lead somewhat to a mantra of ‘well if I’m paying for it someone else can clean it’ whereas if it’s free or much more cost effective people are more inclined to clean up after themselves a bit more.

I have retired now after working for 22years for a large container company and the facilities that the drivers could use were on a par to 4 ⭐️ hotels in their depots. They are outstanding 👍
Lack of facilities in the UK isn't just a problem for female drivers, if you look how many trucks can park at a service area over night and you pretty much can guess what the state of the handful of showers are going to be like after the first few drivers.
In most service areas the the rest of Europe, I find you have to pay for the shower, 1€ or 2€, or show an over night parking ticket if you have to pay for parking, I'm quite happy to do this for a shower that's clean and in a decent state of repair.
When the country went in to meltdown because they suddenly realized there weren't enough HGV drivers, or more to the point the RHA and friends were trying to get the Government to allow them to bring in drivers from abroad, so they could get away with keeping the wages down, the government promised up to £100m for improvements in facilities, I've seen scant evidence of this money being spent. I'm waiting to see if the DfT is going to answer my FOI request, asking how and where this money has been spent.

When I did nights out I normally used to find the local leisure centre for a shower
After sleeping in a few lay-bys years ago I decided not to do that any more but there were more places to stop then nowadays HGV drivers are treated VERY POORLY

Hi Jim, is Ken Morgan here as your lorry being automatic, not got a clutch pedal cause you have put you a struggle to start away from there and I have not never drove an automatic lorry. I have always been a Volvo man with manual gearboxes and you would just pull away in second low, split quite easy you are the ever needed first. I can’t understand how they work. I’ll be not drove one what do you do just put in gear and she goes or have you got a clutch pedal for the first start off my cousin has got a V8 Scania 164 and she automatic is sunrise. It has also got 410 hp eight wheeler skinny. My Josie has had a go not that has got eight speed manual. I will have to ask David when I am talking to him as that got a clutch paddle on them Track unit it is not the cab bike you’ve got it next gem. It is a 164 and he is only just done 105s km they own a scrapyard and it only goes out to caves. Neither have people taking the scrap away for them. It is a beautiful mild lorry which won’t be getting sold because they do not sell nothing. They keep itI have to ask about it I see you leave you in peace Morgan again

Why do you use a microwave for biloing water to make brews etc ?. How come you don't have an inverter and a kettle ?.

Hi Jemma, Love your content. I'm an Australian truck driver. I'm curious about the configuration of your rig. Is the Scania a V8 or inline 6 engine? Is it a bogie drive or single drive with a lazy axle?
Do the onboard load scales receive data from load cells or airbag suspension pressure?
What is the maximum legal length of your truck and trailer in the UK?

When you say your trucks dirty it's a working truck it has to earn it's keep I would say you do well keeping it as clean as you do you must do 1000 km a week she's not bad at all hope you do some blower work soon 👍
