By some estimates, Borneo's vast forests are being cleared faster than the Amazon. Unless something is done now, Orang-utans could be extinct in 20 years.
The practice of bulldozing everything to make way for palm oil plantations has left Orang-utans without their customary habitat. "Palm oil is totally destructive. They're cutting down every single tree", complains Lone Droescher-Nieslen from the Orang-utan Survival Foundation. When the forests disappear, Orang-utans cling to any stump in the cleared land, unable to understand their homes are gone. It's left to charities to rescue the apes before the plantation workers kill them. Lone hopes she can rehabilitate the Orang-utans back into the wild. But if the rate of de-forestation continues, there may soon be no forests to release them into.

You need a donation link for this rescue org. I've seen other pieces about them, they do hard work very well. They deserve more funding to help these orangutans as much as possible, and to educate the people around there.

I was in Borneo and this saddens me. The jungles are like pharmacies: everything that you need medically, grows on those trees.
This woman is a hero. So sad to hear that she is saying “ It is an emergency.” Indonesia’s govt. dependence and also people’s are dependent on primary forest are the main danger of loosing their habitat.
And here we are 14 years later and there are hundreds of thousands if not millions of orangutans in captivity. Look at Borneo on Google earth there is nothing but trees, no cities, not 1. Oh my goodness Baby Kesi. I knew Orangutans were endangered but until I happened onto orangutan jungle school I didn’t realize how horrible it had become. I now want to go to Borneo and volunteer there. We need to help them. BOS is an amazing place where the people are doing so much to help these beautiful creatures.

Actually Borneo the third-largest island in the world, the island is divided among three countries: Brunei and Malayasia on the north, and Indonesia to the south.
Its not misleading in any way, its just that people know Borneo as a whole rather than Kalimantan.
We are one world....stop bothering about where this is...and concentrate on the issue - I'm Malaysian too...anyone with brains watching this will realize its not Malaysia...

Since April I check every single ingredient of the product I buy and I NEVER buy palm oil in supermarket, and I agree with this documentary sometimes they just put "vegetable oil" which is a disguised name for palm oil. If you are looking for palm oil you have to look for the sustainable one (never in the supermarket) which are often more expensive (but not that much), but which have been made in ethical ways. You can look for sustainable oils from dietetic shops or brands...
If you really care, don't buy products that use palm oil - or at least buy the brands that produce it sustainably.

I know. My point was there sadly are people who abuse and rape animals. Technically humans are animals too, so would you have told me to look that up as well? I just specified ape, seeing as the video contains an Orangutan used for sex. I know I don't have to explain this for you.

You are wrong to think that we have any purpose, we are not special we are part of nature, as we came from a natural process.
every one think that when they plant new trees the forest will regrow but thats not true because the animals in the area dies and never return and i have done som research and many speces have alredy dissapeared! so the best think to do is to leav the forest alone ant think of what you by in the stores!!

As horrible as this is it is really telling that many of you choose to focus on the bad part of this story and ignore the fact that there is a group of people risking life and limb to help these animals. And the reality is most people that I have met globally tend to be compassionate and good. But so many of you focus on the ugly of the world and complete ignore the actions of good people. Must suck going through life only seeing the bad.

@pynqlydz Funny how I read on the news that Malaysia kept wanting to steal stuffs from indonesia like islands, batik, dance and culture yet when something bad happened there they don't wanna own up to it.
