I always wanted to see Arlen Lopez defect and turn pro. Always felt he had the style to do so. I remember having a discussion with someone on who was the hardest puncher ever to grace the amateur scene. My pick was Artur Beterbiev and his was Arlen Lopez; and funny enough they fight around the same division. What a fight that would have been (or be, you never know)!! At this point idk if he'll ever defect but one can only hope. On the other hand, Iglesias is looking good as a pro.
Interesting question - I’d go for either Felix Savón or Ángel Espinosa, who both had frightening power. Beterbiev would be right up there as well, along with Sung-Kil Moon. López has power, but he’s certainly not amongst the hardest punchers in the history of the sport.
Excellent choices. I think the reason why he chose Lopez was because he was literally stopping everyone in the WSB at the time. Idk if you remember that little knockout streak he was on for the WSB and some amateur competition. As far as Beterbiev, I could tell that guys power was different just from seeing how his opponents reacted from being hit by him. I also talked to a few fighters that fought him or watched him spar and they said, yeah this guy punches different. Now he's showing that power a pro; I've literally never had more confidence in a fighter getting a stoppage as much as I do with Artur. The damage he was doing with those big gloves and headgear and now smaller gloves and no headgear, forget about it. I'm not as familiar with Sung Kil Moon. @taylorohiggins1734
