- Join us as we get the grand tour of Wolf's Fang Runway (WFR/AT98) in Antarctica - looking at what it takes to keep this blue ice runway and surrounding airfield and ice camp operational. We get inside the PistenBully and groom the ice runway, we go inside the comms box to see how they receive and relay weather and other critical info between aircraft and ground crew, and we see what it's like when the incoming jet has to divert back to Cape Town ("boomerang") due to high winds. Finally, greet the inbound A340 when it tries again the following day.
If you ever wondered what goes into operating an ice airport in Antarctica, you've come to the right place.
This is video #4 in the Antarctica series. Don't miss the first three videos!

Thanks Gabe. A real sense of being there. Addictive.
Glad you liked it!
Your most fascinating series so far, Gabe. Thank you!
Glad you like them!
Top notch production from Gabe again. ❤
Thank you!
Jealous, would love to go!
A350 tattoo. That's proof that you are not only a little enthusiast :) Others have maybe thought of a 747.
Good stuff Gabe! Very fascinating. Really enjoyed this Antarctica series.
Absolutely amazing place. One for the memory scrapbook 👍🏿
Yes it was!
Loved this!! Thanks Gabriel! 😊
You're so welcome!
It’s beautiful footage and very interesting to see about aviation which I follow as a hobby.
Thank you very much!
The corduroy runways and the scenery really put you in a different state of mind. You can’t go anywhere without sunglasses, and sunscreen too, I imagine. There’s a lot to see besides just white, though!
Great series of videos!
Thanks,
Jim
Yep, sunglasses super important! Snow blindness is rough! Thank you for watching.
Ludicrous video this one!
It’s ridankulous!😂
Yes sign me up. Great behind the scenes dude!
Thank you!
9:47 BOWMONK!!!
Nice
Obvious question: is it at all practical to consider constructing a second x-wind strip?
What do they do with rubbish there?
did they charge extra while you were stuck there for an extra 2 nights?
No!
Can you do a vid on the Ski Birds , 139 TAS , &: The Rollers Antarctica operations please
@03:25 you should add the runway in Antarctica as an airport in FR24 instead of it showing as N/A.
I found the TUI 737 in the United States and it’s far from its home
The register is OO-TUK
Gee that fuel bill must add quickly when it has to return without a landing
So, you're down with the flat earthers then?
Don't think so. The flat earthers were there the beginning of December, he went there I think end of January. And it's a completely other base about 3000 km away from each other.
But Captain Joe went to this White Desert base, he is a Plane-RUclipsr too.
Too much talking and selfie camera time. Repeating facts.
