Friendly historian back again. Loki didn't bang a horse to give birth to Sleipnir, it's way dumber than that. The Asgards had asked a giant to build a great fortress for them, this giant asked an outrageous price for his services, the sun, the moon and the Goddess Freya. The Asgards obviously still wanted a swanky fortress so they asked Loki to make the giant late (because of course you get it for free then). It was Lokis idea to go the horse seducing route though, he turned into a lady horse and distracted the giant's stallion long enough. That he gave birth to an eight legged horse was purely accidental. Being a blood brother to Odin makes it all incredibly hilarious, since it means the king of the gods rides his nephew into battle.
Of course it's dumber and weirder than what I said. Wow.
@@Insaneian Let us not forget that Odin fathered The midgard serpent, Hel the goddess of death (she is very interesting, half of her body is a beautiful women, the other half a withered corpse) and The wolf of Fenris.
Loki is also the reason why we have earthquakes: The norse gods got fed up with his antics, and they captured him, bound him with his normal childrens intestines, threw him in a cave and weighed him down with stones. They placed a venomous snake that drools its poison in his eyes, making him tremble in pain thus making the earth quake. His wife Sigyn stand guard at his side with a bowl, catching the poison dripping, but she has to empty the bowl, so we know when the earth shakes, Sigyn has left Lokis side to empty the bowl outside.
@@grokta It wasn't Odin that fathered those three, that was Loki too. In fact, he actually gave birth to them. Loki might have been (emphasis on might, Loki is quite the enigma as of right now) revered as a god of motherhood, which kinda makes sense, but is also weird as heck.
He didn't bang a horse... he WAS the horse...
@@DisKorruptd that's what both Ghostfield and I said.
The thing about Stupendium is that obviously his songs are solid on their own, but when you review them you point out all these little nuances I never would have noticed on my own. Tldr, thank you for doing these.
Fragments is an incredibly complex song, really cutting in deep. It needs a deeper look to actually understand the message. Otherwise... you likely leave conflicted trying to understand what you missed... I know that happened to me...
30:17 Stupendium has sworn and made lots of sex jokes in many of his older songs, but stopped once he started growing to appeal to a younger audience.
Well.. for the most part. I guess he just *CAN*'t resist sometimes.
Well for sex jokes, we got a full song about sexual innuendos on cans
@@Squeleton Yeah that was- the joke..
Hence why I said "*CAN*'t"
I was referencing that song :P
@@fudgie5269 oh! Yeah… didn’t see that part….
Oh man. That Cuphead rap from back in the day.
"Guns, the motion is finger guns"
@@ParadoxFree I didn't know what Milk Milk Lemonade was when it first released so when I searched it up to try and find the song again, it was an.. interesting experience to say the least.
The hop kins line is a reference to Anthony Hopkins, who has played both Odin and "Odin" in the Thor movies.
HOLY CRAP HOW DID I MISS THAT?
I knew somebody would have already mentioned this. XD
"left not dominant"
Sooo. When Olaf came up with his brilliant plan to marry Violet ("thirsting over my foster daughter" is referencing this plot point.) to get the money. The signature has to be written with your dominant hand (for Violet, this would be right). now idunno about the book. but if I recall correctly; Violet wanted to write it with left, to render the wedding paper invalid. and while in the movie, Olaf notices this before she signs and tells her to do it with her right hand, TV-show Olaf actually gets beaten by Violet signing with her left hand.
When I read the book after seeing the movie, I went wide eyed as I realized they were referencing that
Book-Olaf too
What would happen if you don't have a dominant hand?
That's in the book where she beats him by signing it right, the TV series follows the books to a T for the most lart
Daniel Handler is the real name of Lemony Snicket! Tbh he hasnt got a great track record as a person so its pretty fair that people don't know that.
Daniel being the actual author, Lemony being the "author" of the books
And with the premier now up for this, it is indeed Freeced guesting on Fragments.
Yeah, after I sent the reaction to Stupes I confirmed it with him, heh.
WHAT? This is the first I'm hearing of this. Stupes will be hearing from my Lombax lawyer.
@@Freeced Maybe that's too much. Stupendium may lose this case
I only just realised when watching this that Stupendium speeds up drastically as he says about the rug being pulled out from under you.
Which means that I keep starting off not paying *maximum* attention because it's slow enough I can chill and keep up, then losing track when that happens (... like the rug being pulled from under me) and having to go back. Not even sure *that's* intentional, but it's still freaking cool.
With the whole Stupendium swearing thing, I believe he only actually swore briefly in a few of his very first songs. :) Like his first as you would know "Average rapper raps averagely" and "British Summertime" (which I also recommend reacting to hence it being a comedy song, and one of Stupe's lowest viewed songs alongside it). :) Other then that Stupes doesn't swear :)
PS: Also as always great reaction Ian! Seeing how I was there for the Premier for Fragments it was nice to be able to immediately go to here to see your reaction to it as well and to watch it again. :)
Haha I'm a little surprised you didn't catch the "hop kins" line.
MCU Odin was played by Anthony Hopkins.
the left hand thing is how they get out of olaf's first plan, to merry violet. She signs with her left hand, not her dominant hand, and so the marriage is not valid.
Lemony Snicket's a pen name, the author's name is Daniel Handler
After the Loki series finale, Fragments may be even more topical for Loki than the Loki battle itself.
Great reaction, as always!
Speaking of the Loki finale, you might want to check out MY new song (which came out the day before this video and is linked in the description) 😅
I was literraly on the stream of the fragments song when a notification of this video came to me, awesome reaction (also... Count olaf won xD)
I think Fragments genuinely might be my favourite Stupendium song so far. There's so much more in the lyrics than just Ratchet and Clank.
Not only does "Fragments" bring a heavier meaning into the lyrics regarding the game, Stupendium also snuck in part of a lyric from "Slide Into the Void" ("dimensions fragment" being part of a lyric from said song)!
Addendum: I got this info from a commenter on the public video, and Stupes wanted to make a direct quote for that lyric, but only the first half worked out.
Feels like if he watched the Netflix adaptation of asoue this video would’ve been 10 minutes longer
That's...probably accurate 😅
36:14 that's a referecne to "that's not how the story goes" that is a song in the netflix show, and I think the curtain in the back is also a reference to it
I recommend their rap battles. Some of them are really lit: please check Mr Bean vs Charlie Chaplin, Leatherface vs Hannibal Lecter, Walter White vs Willy Wonka or Alice vs Coraline :v All of them are top tier and can be comparable with some of the best ERB battles on all fields.
Also, at 28:47 "dropped off the bridge like Bi-frost-y the snowman"! Stupendium writing quality.
Alas, I was just a vocal performer, I did not write the battle. :P
@@TheStupendium still that line lives up to your standards of quality (in my opinion), so I'm still technically correct :)
@@TheStupendium I absolutely love your style of delivery in the role. "Of course I'm more striking than Thor's lightning" has been stuck in my head along with the, "But no! For you that's not how the story goes".
hi i wrote that line. thank you sm :)
OMG i did not expect a reaction so soon for the new song!!! This is amazing 😍
Thank you for another great video!!
This (Edit: ,Stupendiums,) song hits way too close to home then it has any right to. I've listened to the song, read all the lyrics-> I'm crying and I love it... also hate it, but definitely love it! This song is awesome in the most literal of ways!
I actually found Stupendium through their cover of Blood in the Water, a song from Legally Blonde: The Musical.
Stupendiums songs are alwats 10/10 and witg you expalin jokes i enjoy them even more. THANKS IAN
"When Your Reality Cracks, It Can Feel Like Forever.
Traped In The Gaps, As The Pieces Are Severed.
If You Feel You Could Lapse, All You Need Is A Tether,
To That Team At Your Back. You Can Keep It Together."
This is a nigh perfect metaphor for the horrible twighlight period between you *beginning* to question your identity, up until you're able to do anything about it. It may take years to even realize and mull it over, and depending on who you are and where you are, years to do anything about it, long after you're done mulling things over. It's soul-rending realizing your identity is broken and you can't do anything about it immediately, not many people can handle it, but it helps a great deal to have the support of friends and family, it might even be the thing that keeps you alive through your twighlight period.
I always watch this when I need to cry
The Handler part is a reference to the author of ASOUE, Daniel Handler.
Nice to see you react to Freshy, hope you keep it up!
Finally! I have been waiting for a good time to suggest Freshy Kanal's channel to you for a while now. You would love it. It's a slightly lower budget ERB, but is by far the best erb-inspired channel on here. One of his best ones (personally) is his Scrooge vs Grinch one, which happens to be Stupendium vs Dan Bull respectively. Also check out Freddy vs Pennywise if you want to see one of the hardest verses ever recorded. Also Monika vs Harley is great as well.
His videos always focus on comedy, so it would be perfect for your reactions.
The "Bye Frosty the Snowman" was also a reference to the Bifrost which Loki also has power over. (I proposed spelled that wrong, but you know what I mean)
I spelled Probably wrong . . . 🤦♂️
so that song was very different then what i was expecting but loved it. and the battle was pretty nicely made.
definitely react to more
Nice to know that you still know that he sings. And i gotta chack these tik toks out.
Btw. Do you know about the undertail song? Way deeper down. It is very amusing.
It's UnderTALE.
Undertail is... something else that I don't recommend you to check out.
@@dozenDevil What's undertail
@@joshuabates1355 It's a nickname for r34 community for Undertale.
Daniel Handler is Lemony Snicket's real name
Also Anthony Hopkins played Odin, which I assume is the "hop kins" line
The whole "bye frosty the snowman" line also has the added benefit of an extra "bye frost - bifrost" reference, plus kind of compares Olaf to the snowman of the same name from Frozen for the sake of the metaphor
"Sounds like Freeced"
Good ear dude
Anthony Hopkins played Odin in the MCU.
I think Freshy Canal might be writing the verses, because the Loki’s first verse is kind of soft for Shwabadi I think, but I have no proof of it
Other thing, I don’t know if the Bye frosty the snowman bar is also a play on olaf from frozen
In the case of the Bifrost bar, it's just the Bifrost and Frosty the Snowman (dissing how Loki was a frost giant).
Hi I rewatch the video because I wanted cause I was alone and (I’m not and English persond so if I’m a bit stressed or not very concentrated I can make a mess with what are you saying) and now I see you were asking who was the persond that makes the song of fragments with stupendium…well you were right, it was freeced and… now I’m thinking you probably have seen it on tweeter or on another place…but as I have a big comment …I don’t want to erase it XD
Really reccomend Doctor Who vs Doctor Strange if you're a Who fan, which 90% of middle aged Brits are
My favorite of Freshy Kanal rap battles is Caroline vs Alice in Wonderland.
Didn't Thor have a pair of goats to pull his chariot, in mythology? As I recall it, he'd travel that way, then camp for the night and cook them for dinner, and in the morning they would be resurrected and be ready to pull him again.
Something like that, yeah. They apparently show up in Thor: Love and Thunder soon.
A Series of Unusual Events was great show starring Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf
9:48
I love the song fragments , it is so good it could be ost or even on the radio. I was crying from some of the verses... but yha i haven't played the game yet , to poor to afford any thing like that game, its just remind me of my brother when he played the old games of ratchet and clank ... sorry put to much on here... oof
Amazing reactions as usual You should definitely react to Dan bulls horizon zero Don or hellblade rap
fact check: stupendium said "ass" in milk milk lemonade
edit: he also said "bitches" in amateur wordsmith
Also said “dick” in his Geek Cypher 2.
OK, so I said I'd do it and since I don't have the money to get Premiere Pro Renewal, I'm just gonna make the 'Out of Context' Video in filmora. Hopin i'll finish by this weekend, but who knows. I'll @ you on Twitter when I finish. Hope it's funny!
You should react to fresh kanals the doctor vs doctor strange
Daniel Handler is the real name of Lemony Snicket. Lemony Snicket is his pen name so thats why Handler was capitalized
I have nothing clever to say, so I'll just say that I did the first like. Woo
32:52 Daniel Handler is the public representative of Lemony Snicket
From the audio alone I could tell this (Count Olaf vs. Loki) was one of Stupe's best performances imo, but then I saw the visuals for Olaf and I was very impressed. Loki's visuals really didn't do it for me though.
Odin was played by Anthony Hopkins
Hopkins was Anthony Hopkins cos Odin was played by him
Not only is "Fragments" by itself an absurdly good Ratchet and Clank song, it's inspirational, feel good, and deep as hell. To some, it's even a damn good song about being transgender or gender questioning. It describes the experience almost perfectly when viewed from a genderqueer perspective, the only lyrics that don't relate to the trans experience are small Ratchet and Clank bits and words. Your reality shattering being your old identity, and as a response you have to make a more comfortable reality with the pieces. The game even has a genderbent character! And, given that The Stupendium came out as non-binary recently, a lot of trans people who first watched the song kiinda called it!
Just finished the the first portion of the video, apologies for the assumption.
That was fast
Violet wrote with her left hand so she which is her non dominant hand so the legal documents were all invalid
Ian not smart good.
-Insane Ian
Sorry that it took me that long to comment. I was didn't liked the new song from stupes at first but it grew on me like mold on a bathroom celing. (That's a referens for any eurovision fans out there)
The second voice is Freeced
It's Freeced.
Yet? Does this mean you are learning the production skills? You have a better memory than I do I can't remember any films I've watched for very long.
Are you planning on doing more Freshy Kanal reactions?
I might, yes 😁
@@Insaneian Cool. He's one of the best ERB inspired channel out there, so can't wait.
hold on-
You voice those Mighty Magisword characters?
I do not, no. My friends Luke and Kyle do. Kyle also created the show. They are comedy musician friends of mine, and I've done songs with them all before. All the credits of who worked on that promo is in the description box above. 😁
@@Insaneian I was about to have a fanboy moment lol
That was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid, & now at 16 I look back it the show & think "Man, those were the days"
@@whosmorales I'm a huge Magiswords fan, and not just because my friends worked on it. 😅 I wish it wouldn't have been so mishandled by CN.
@@Insaneian Same man. I wish they would bring it back in some shape or form. Have Luke & Kyle tried bringing it back before? Or is it not going to come back?
(you don't need to be TOO crazy with this one. just a simple explanation would be fine lol)
@@whosmorales well, sadly it's not up to Kyle, as he created the show, but CN owns it. Nature of the biz unfortunately.
What am I not getting about this "even if you look me up you'll be beneath me."
It's nonsense. Looking something up doesn't imply you're above it. It's literally just because the word "up" is in it that the flip is based upon, but that's dumb.
It's a phone book joke. Loki comes before Olaf.
@@marcusc9931 ... Phone book? Even when phone books were a thing people actually used, who would refer to it that way?
Even if that's it, how old is Shwabadi? Like 50+? And he hates modern technology? There's no way he should think that wouldn't need to be better telegraphed if he regularly used the internet. Looking something up is a fundamentally different thing now that does not include cross-topic ordering.
@@seigeengine Shwbadi didn't write his verses, tho. But yes, it's based on the word "up" being in it. You may not like the flip, but it's clever enough imo.
alligator loki is best loki
You said that you haven't seen the Series of Unfortunate Events Netflix show, so here is my recommendation. Watch it. The third season has 100% on rotten tomatoes and the first two have over 90%. It's very comedic.
