Very intriguing comparison! And very nice sounding instruments as well! May I ask how you make the fingerholes in the acrylic one? I'd expected it to burst or crack if using a drill.
Thanks for your work and videos! I´m new to your channel, so haven´d seen all of ´m yet. I´m interested in trying to make diatonic and major pentatonic scale shakuhachis. How do you measure the fingerhole placements / tuning, if I may ask?
Nowadays I usually use my best flute as a reference, and I have a good flute for each scale I'm making. But originally I picked up an old javascript app that was free to use online. And now I also apply a simply percent-formula I made based on my existing flutes.
@@justplayflute Sometimes with new flute type or scale I haven't done before I first make a pvc flute for a reference. It's easy to work and it's cheap. Then I make the actual (objective) flute out aluminium, copper or acrylic glass.

Yeah that can happen, particularly with bigger drill bits. I drill a small hole first, then I use straight grinder to make it proper sized.
@@osflutes5141 Thank you for the explanation!

@@osflutes5141 Good point: I´ll go and work on making some reference flutes 👍🙏
