角田選手は元々は52キロ級の選手で、その階級には阿部詩や志々目愛がいたが代表争いが熾烈で48キロ級での東京オリンピックを目指す。角田選手は52キロ級でも強く阿部詩には通算成績3勝1敗で勝ち越していた。48キロ級で目指した東京オリンピックで選ばれたのは渡名喜風南だったため角田は補欠になった。角田選手は強いんです、無差別級の全日本選手権では７８キロ級や７８キロ超級の選手と互角に渡り合える実力です。全盛期のYAWARAちゃんこと谷亮子（旧姓：田村）よりも上という説もあります。
