    Literally. The guy above me always sounds as if he's rearranging his furniture whilst occasionally dropping a bowling ball. It was the same with the last guy up there. Must be something written into upstairs neighbour tenancy agreements - 'You must never sit down, and must always walk around in a stomping fashion, rearranging your furniture and dropping heavy, rolling items onto the floor. Failure to do so will constitute a breach of tenancy and result in forfeiture of your security deposit.'

    When I first moved out I was so excited to get my own place I never even considered people living above me. I got the first apartment I saw and I was loving it.. for a week. Until i realized the people above me STOMPED AROUND 24/7!! I mean it sounded like elephants walking around up there! When they weren't stomping around they were screaming at each other! It was a NIGHTMARE! One night I lost it and pounded on the ceiling for an hour straight yelling at the top of my lungs 🤣🤣🤣🤣 When you can't sleep it really could drive you insane. Never again.. never ever. I'll sleep under a bridge in a hurricane before I live in a building with people living above me.

      This is my first apartment and my upstairs neighbors stomp like they have a disabillity or something.
      When I talked with them the only thing I got was a "better look better next time, where you move in" and "just put earplugs in your ears."

    A nice bonus from growing up in an upstairs apartment is that the way I learned to walk is basically completely silent, so I constantly startle people when I walk up behind them, because they don't know I'm there until I say something right next them.

I've had bottom floor neighbors that played fucking basketball and soccer indoors. I've had bottom neighbors that would constantly nail shit into the wall, or be constantly running back and forth, and whatever the fuck else noise they were making. • @OgdenM
      @OgdenM Год назад +5

      You don't need a house, just train your kids to be quiet! Turn it into a game. I grew up in a quiet household and still to this day only make noise when I walk on squeaky floors. .. and I try to minimize that as much as possible.
      Granted, the whole scaring the crap out of people because they don't hear me walking into a room is annoyance sometimes hah.

    • @nomoretwitterhandles
      @nomoretwitterhandles 2 месяца назад +3

      There are many more reasons why someone would've had children under unfortunate circumstances, and your ignorance is truly hateful.
      Hopefully you've become a much kinder person in these last couple of years. Like, yes, hearing kids run around can be annoying, but the solution isn't for the family to "shop for a home" that they cannot afford (seriously, look at the housing market...). The solution is for the family to teach their children how to be respectful. Every bad neighbor lacks empathy. It has nothing to do with having children or house shopping.

    • @nomoretwitterhandles
      @nomoretwitterhandles 2 месяца назад

      @@OgdenM Exactly, thank you for pointing this out. I was raised to be a quiet kid, and even as an adult I am ghostly quiet when I walk from room to room. I wish OP had the common sense (and, frankly, any shred of empathy) to know that the housing market is insane.
      Also, the "scaring people" thing is so true lol, the amount of times I've accidentally scared a friend just by appearing in the same room is astronomical.

    To be fair, a lot of people have no idea how much sound carries if rest of their neighbors are quiet people. More so if they are new to apartment life. (Or new to older construction that has NO sound insulation between floors or units period.)
    I once lived in a really old apartment complex where the walls between units had NO insulation. One of my neighbors was brand new to the building, had actually a very standard quiet party with some low music and like 4 friends over. I heard EVERYTHING they did and said. Even when one of her friends belched.
    It wouldn't have been a problem if it hadn't been almost midnight.
    I wrote her a polite letter explaining the situation, even mentioned the belch and never heard a peep from her unit again after 10pm (Quiet time in the building.) I also gave a copy of the letter to the building manager and explained that I just wanted them to keep it on record but NOT approach the person about it and I'd talk to them again if I still had an issue. They totally got why.. I'd rather solve issues like that directly with the person. Neighbors typically rather be approached by fellow tenants then get a note from management.
    I suggest doing the same. Write a note, leave it on the upstairs neighbors door and give a copy to building management and tell them not to intervene unless it escalates or is still an issue.
    --The copy to the management serves multiple purposes. 1) Show them that you're willing to try to figure out the issue yourself which they love. 2) Protects you if the neighbor complains about your note to them.
    Give them a few days to start to be more quiet after the note. It will probably take awhile for them to make a habit of it BUT; you should notice a difference pretty fast.. they will probably just slip up for a few weeks.
    Also: DO NOT DRAG TABLES LIKE THAT on hard surfaces! You will scratch the crap out of the surface!!!!!!!!!!!
