I was ready to buy the 60v Dewalt trimmer and then I just learned about the Ego power load trimmer. I then did some reading about it and I am so convinced that Ego trimmer is the one I want and ordered it. I ordered the newest model ST1623T 16" with 4.0 Ah battery. Power load, IQ and design is what got my attention.

I had an old base model Ego trimmer, and really hated it, the stupid thing was hard to load, you had to really hit it to advance anything, but it did an excellent job. But this year, I went ahead and got the top of the line IQ trimmer with everything, and my Goodness, it's like going from a Hyundai to a Cadillac. Such a ridiculously better experience with the auto advance and easy reload, I love it.

I used the Multihead stuff for years in my business and it is super reliable. I quickly jumped ship when the 2nd generation commercial line launched. I had opposite feelings on the edger. I felt when paired with the 1400 it was underpowered when doing new edges. It was fine for maintaining though. I haven't used the 1420. I got the commercial edger and it is so much more powerful. I hardly ever get it to cut out now. I am considering picking up the new commercial multihead power unit to use as a backup to my STX4500. Having a second STX4500 doesn't seem as smart since it isn't as versatile.

Hey Tech Made Easy, That spring loaded battery pusher does more than keep the battery from shaking around in the slot. It doubles as a switch so that the terminals can't be energized when the battery is not in place. Inside the unit there are capacitors and other electronics that can still have power even after the battery has been removed and that switch disconnects the terminals from the electronics.

It's also only USD$240 on Amazon right now. I don't edge or polesaw very often, so I'll put it on one of those shafts and swap it out when needed. If I eventually update to a better string head, I'll retire my old one and make it the permanent PRS shaft. I'm really excited to use it but I also need the BCA1220 for some stubborn yuccas that keep coming back, and other stuff.

Exclusively compatible with EGO POWER+ Multi-Head System Power Head PH1420
As a side note, I know it’s likely a safety thing but I do wish I could lock it on rather than holding the button all the time. Sometimes it’s a long reach with the bush trimmer.

It works with the old PH1400. Ego wants you to use the new PH1420 for a few reasons: increased safety on the battery connections, the safer trigger, the slightly imperfect fiddling you have to do to connect the BCA1220 at the quick release (have to rotate the blade a bit sometimes), and actually the PH1420 has a 15% stronger motor.

the biggest upgrade is the ability to add a strap if you own the bigger battery. the old model didn't have this and this was a deal breaker for me as I have 10ah battery from the 2-stage snowblower. now with the strap included, I can buy it and not worry about weight distribution and back problems.
also, you cannot buy, for now, the new MST1603 string trimmer buy itself. you have to buy the whole kit which is a bummer for someone who already own batteries and see no use for more. hopefully they'll release it soon by itself.

When did you buy yours? I bought the MHC1501 in 2021, mfd in Aug 2020, and I can put a clip-on strap on it. The head it came with is labeled STA1500 but comes with the older AH1530 head, the one without the load line marker. But the new string head (because of the shaft) is still labeled as STA1500 as a standalone product. I went through 3 support calls who didn't know the difference until I gave up on getting the info I wanted.
The batteries do go after a couple years of weekly use, so not a bad idea to get a new one. You'll notice the runtime difference between a new and 4yo battery. Just have to get rid of the old ones properly.
