    Taking apart a dirtbike is a lot of fun but how fast can it be done? Most of the video is in real time except for the tires being dismounted.

      I agree with everyone else, do it. you'll learn so much about 2 strokes and dirt bikes in general, prior to my yz85 I restored I had NEVER wrenched on any bike in my life, only some lawnmowers weedeaters etc etc, but I managed to restore a yz85 from the dirt up, starting with a whole bike, going down to nothing but a frame, and all back together with half being brand new parts, cleaned up the working parts also, I bought the bike for 500, put 500 more into restoring it to basically a brand new bike.. I even got a 100% rebuilt engine top and bottom in brand new condition inside and out for 400$, the other 100 was plastics, everything else was just polished up and restored. but my point before this rant is that 2 strokes can be rebuilt by ANYONE, even the engines are simple... no timing bs to deal with on 85's.

    • @rageagainstthetoymachine2410
      @rageagainstthetoymachine2410 6 лет назад

      I don't touch bottom ends but I was able to rebuild my top end with 0 knowledge about 2 stroke engines, its just that simple.

    Nice methodical approach keeping it simple and straightforward (time is $$$) How do you go about organising parts whilst stripping it down, storage bins or bags then clean and tag / list item?
    How much racking and what's your storage setup like to find parts easily ready for shipping? 👍

    • @CameronNiemela
      @CameronNiemela  7 лет назад

      Thanks Guy! Listings with multiple pieces go into bags, then everything is separated by size/weight/where it came from. For example all the light plastic pieces will go into one bin, then another bin will be heavier steel and aluminum pieces. The bottom end parts will go into another bin, and the top end into the last bin. Larger pieces like forks, wheels, swingarm are hung onto the wall while all the bins are on shelving. This video shows a little of the storage setup:

If I had it down to the frame I would paint the frame polished aluminum to get it looking sharp. I’ve also liked this polished aluminum frames from 19:32 Honda. Makes them look like race bikes

    It's honestly astounding and slightly depressing to me that people pay the money they pay to acquire these marvels of engineering and then neglect and allow them to get into this kind of condition.
    However, It's also cool because awesome, knowledgeable people get to take them apart and give them new life and in your case even go the extra length to be even more of an epic human being and make concise, informative and educational content from it that ultimately contributes to people learning more about the many nuances of bikes and their engineering pitfalls when not taken care of properly.
    Thank you!

    How do you keep track of bolts?

    • @CameronNiemela
      @CameronNiemela  6 лет назад +1

      On this bike, it's being sold in parts so the bolts are put into a bag and sold as well.

    • @flakeyboyz5664
      @flakeyboyz5664 6 лет назад +1

      Cameron Niemela oh righto, cause i always get confused with some bolts some being longer and some shorter and i don't strip it down to the degree you do.
