  • u can actually hear it when the idle jet setting (and/or the mixture screw) is too lean, get a feeling whats too lean and whats healthy. too lean means dangerous, cause the engine will definitely die if u go outside the city and trash it :D :P
    new REED valve si carb version:
    • vespa IDLE JET setting...
    setting the carb like this is a good basis for a testride where u can fein adjust the setup, no worries nothing will happen.
    on-road behaviour of a well set ide jet engine
    • vespa ON-ROAD BEHAVIOU...
    • vespa ON-ROAD BEHAVIOU...
    • Vespa/LML si carb ON-R...
    how2start:
    1) healthy engine
    (no oil sucker, no false air, no blowback) ((see vid guides to each issue))
    2) proper fuel support
    3) meqsured main.jets (guide!)
    3) warm engine
    wondering why air filter is missing and what will change if u add it and the air bellow (see small guide btw how2 mount it)?!?
    u are on the safe side! the naked carb runs leaner as it gets more air, so if u start setting it up without, the setup will get richer when u add filter/lid/bellow.
    no, its absolutely no problem.to drive without airfilter/lid/bellow. no worries
    tried also taking videos while driving
    but enginw sound is too quiet and Vibrations to high (video pic gets wobbly)
    NOTE: the idle jet is the reason for most engine killing and NOT the main jet. actually the engine cools down at full throttle, it gets really hot while cruising at the 0-50% throttle range. and an engine with power is mostly moved around 25% only original engines with no power need full throttle to get moving.
    hope this prevent a lot of unneeded seizing!
    drive safe mates :D
    cheers

    My Vespa reacts to the screw being turned but once it's idling smoothly at what point should I stop turning the screw outwards (richer?) Always like to be slightly richer as I don't want a seize. I just have a standard setup. Standard (non cat) exhaust, 45/140 idle, 140/BE5/99 on main stack. Cheers

    Excellent video as always....however, I just put my carb back on following a strip and clean including adding a fast flow fuel tap and now it just won't tick over, it runs a little better with the choke out but off choke if I don't keep the revs up it just bogs and dies. Any ideas would be extremely grateful.

    Excellent Vid & explanation. I have a Stock GS160 with the 27/23 carb and the issue i cant get to the bottom is that it ticks over fine but as soon as you rev it or pull away it dies but it can be revved passed that flat spot. It has the stock slide and correct pilot jet. makes pulling away a pain as you apply the throttle it feels like its going to cut out but you have to rev past it. any help appreciated

      carb cleaning of course, can be dirt, dont forget to also blow the jets and use a needle to clean the holes
      if this doesnt work, search for false air, checkout my guide
      but typically it slows down coming of the rev after closing slide, "revs are hanging"

      @@shamsulfuadahmad700 so many factors.. those are 1) the mixture is too rich (too much loosening the idle jet screw), 2) bad ignition/contact breaker timing, 3) too much oil mixture in the fuel, 4) wrong spark plug [there are 2 types of spark plug, 1 for daily drive, and another for long trip, see about Hot and Cold Spark Plug explanations from NGK], 5) the main jet or idle jet size does not match the carburetor, the best way is to stick with standard carburetor, see scooterlounge.com/vespa/reference-library/vespa-stock-jetting-reference-guide.shtml

      La vite di miscelazione va regolata a circa 2 giri dal tutto avvitato, e poi regolare in fine a motore caldo, con il minimo un po' alto, sui 1500 giri. Una volta regolata in fine la vite di miscelazione, riporti la vite del minimo alla regolazione che preferisci

    I changed points and condensor and retubed my quattrini 172. With 50/140ij and 128mj i have flat spot at anove idle. First have to ride and wait untill revs go up to then she goes. 😢 so i decided to ride with out side cover and tune it on road. Normally carb sits at one and half turns. Desperate tryingvtovget rid of flat spot. Starting at 2.5 turns i worked my way down. Its bogging and flats spots all over. Then i got over it and turned carb in all the way. Ridding it then half turn... at .8 turn scooter settled but i revs bit high. Scoot revs clean. At 1 turn out scoot has no flat spots no bogging. 😮 revs bit high. So i set idle down. Scoot from idle jet to main jet no flat spots. Is this where i should leave it? At 1.5turns scoot has like flat spot until main jet kicks in and revs. Less 1.5 turns scoot boggs. I mean carb starts feeding petrol at .5turns to 4turns. I know my stator not healthy. 😢.

    • @EddieEloff
      @EddieEloff 8 месяцев назад

      So as you look at the black cover for wire. When carb set correctly. The plastic will not vibrate so much. I don't know if you have noticed this before. But I put my hand on side of flywheel. When my finger stop vibrating carb set healthy. If it's lean or rich vibrations different. Lean brrrrrr and rich more vrrroof vrrroof. If carb rich or lean scoot will vibrate more on handle bars. When set correctly scoot will be butter smooth. This part I don't understand. I got bogging and flats spots out. But I have vibrations in handle bar 😢😮

    I did not quite understand your approach:
    The IDLE JET Screw function is not just opening a minimum gas to maintain a higher or lower idle? It's the same as having the gas fist a little turned, isn't it? So what does it have to do with more or less rich in gasoline / air

    • @FreakMoPed8
      @FreakMoPed8  4 года назад +1

      Not my approach, uts how the si works. Main jet stock delivers fuel to the idle jet, there its mixed with air, then this gas flows over the mixture screw under the slide (thats why its called mixture) which is th most Important jet if you close the slide.
