Hey Ryan, awesome content. One question: When talking about the youtube app, you said it was in 4k. I thought the RP5 only outputted a 1080p signal through the DP? Cheers
I contacted retroid’s customer service on their discord server about this a few weeks earlier - allegedly it does support 4K60Hz as well as 1080P60Hz, but I hadn’t asked how either were supposed to be enabled 😅. May follow up on it later though for clarity!
My RP5 is in the 4PX facility waiting to be shipped out, yay! Sadly, I haven't heard of many android devices getting their widevine upgraded. I think it's a licensing thing the company has to "opt into" (like meaning "pay for") otherwise you just get the standard support which means SD Netflix. That said, the RP5 is probably better served as a portable content viewer in that regard. I won't say the ES-DE devs don't deserve to be paid for their time and effort and I agree if you want to pay them for it the price is fair compared to the premium version of Launchbox (but at least Launchbox has a free version). I appreciate that the alternative in Daijisho is clean looking and functionally better than the stock launcher.
Glad to hear that! Hope you get it soon! Netflix even in SD looks fine on the RP5 screen. I'm not sure of the exact resolution, whether it's 480p or 576p etc but it looks more than enough on a 5.5 inch screen, especially with the great colours the screen has. Daijisho is great!
@@BeBoe69 I ordered it Nov. 8 and got the tracking number via email on Dec. 3. Though it's possible that, depending on which model you ordered, what extras you ordered, or the shipping you used it might affect your place in line. I ordered the black model with a case and screen protector, but I think I heard they were prioritizing the gamecube color models. I don't know how true that is.
I’ll definitely be ordering my RP5 through your affiliate link, thanks for all these great videos! Now I just need to decide between black and GC color…
Hey Ryan! I got a question after I saw you on a Reddit thread. How did you fill up your games catalogue? I got my RP and have recently bought a 512GB SD Card. The problem is, which was surprising to me, is that I am actually struggling to fill it up! You said earlier in a thread that 1TB might have not been enough for you, so I am curious how you chose what to play.
If you're only picking some games you want to play you'll be fine with 512 probably. I need 1TB because I am constantly downloading new requests I get in the comments. It's mostly Secret Console games filling up the space. They're mostly at least 10gb each and some of them are 20gb+ which quickly starts to add up! If you play mostly games earlier than that, you should be fine!
You should map you retroarch hotkeys so Select+ ... does actions, like Save state, load state, reset, go to menu... AAAND, exit to ES-DE ( Select+Start similar to Retrobat, Batocare, Recalbox ). This will allow a better smoother use as home console.
Thank you for the video! But 😢 It's clear that there is a significant video output delay when both devices are on one screen. Image on RP5 changes before the TV image does. If you don't notice it in full speed, just slow down the video. Do you notice it? It will be very noticeable especially in games like Mario that you have shown us.
Thanks, but did you have any issues with Key Mapper? However I chose to map a function for back/home the buttons I used would then not function at all in any emulator or when navigating/mapping the RP5...
@ Yeah, that’s about what I figured, after all they would make a perfect Christmas gift. Thanks, and appreciate all your hard work! Anytime I get interested in buying a device I always come to you!
Nothing beats a mouse with a scroll wheel. I connect my pc to my TV. This way I can watch from any website with no limitations connected boxes have. Also...no ads. But your set up can be nice when traveling if you don't have alternatives
BTW, the Rocknix 20241120 built is released and seems like improving a lot from the original Retroid released last month. I am curious to see how it makes all smooth and perfect like most Linux consoles do compared to ANdroid.
I remember the old retroid launcher having an app section. I also remember being able to touch and hold the game to bring up a menu that would let you add or customize the box art cover. Did they make the new reteoid launcher more combersom?
Not sure if you brought it up and I missed it, but I didn't see anything about battery bypass. Would this just destroy your battery if you did this consistently?
Can we enable charging separation on this device like its there for Odin? Like the power goes directly to the device without charging the battery when its enabled? Or is there any 3rd party tool for it? The battery on these handhelds make me pretty anxious, not gonna lie
Is there a built in microphone on the RP5? It is silly but there is a left field dreamcast game I always find myself going back to play every few years that requires a mic. It's called seaman. It's a silly stupid game but I always found it hilarious. Lol
Yes, that is the default behaviour. If you want to keep the screen on like I did, you have to go into Handheld Settings to enable that. By default the screen will go black when you connect an external monitor
Nice - my RP5 doesn't work in the Retroid dock (so I keep that for the 4Pro), no output on HP DisplayLink4k, but a cheap £8 dongle seems to do the trick. Weird
is the odin 2 worth the extra cash, considering all that you have said in your videos I dont think it really is, I think this is the most you can get for your moneys worth
It depends on what you value - the Odin 2 has more power and the left stick on top, which is more comfortable imo. The RP5 has a better screen and is cheaper and smaller. If the Odin 3 adds an OLED screen, I'm going to pick one up for sure to compare to the RP5. After using the beautiful OLED of the RP5, I couldn't go back to an LCD now.
@ there is the odin 2 portal coming with a 7" 120hz OLED screen and it is supposed to ship this month, if you backed up the project on indiegogo but again 329 for base and 399 for pro seems a bit much, I do not think it is worth it
Yes, by default the screen will turn off when you dock it. I enabled the screen in the Handheld Settings because I think it looks better for making this video
How long do you think you can keep up with the one video per day schedule and not running out of video ideas? 😂 Or do you have plenty of ideas in the drawer?
ES-DE is far more aesthetically appealing, Daijishou is easier to use and a more complete Android handheld experience out of the box. If it wasn't for es applauncher, I'd probably stick with Daijishou. But luckily applauncher has our back :)
