I've been knitting for over fifty years and this cast on is new to me. It's a godsend for the chemo caps I make on circular needles. No more juggling dps or a second circular to get that first round started! Thank you so much.
Thank you thank you thank you! I have been practicing different cast on methods for weeks and the stitches always came out too tight. I got frustrated and almost gave up completely. Came across this video, tried it and the very first time my stitches were so much easier to work with! I can't thank you enough!
I watched all the other videos on this subject and this one stands out as the best. I especially appreciated the beginning section with the finished product and tips there. The presenter is cute, obviously knowledgeable and I especially liked his gentle voice Very professional production. Friendly. Will subscribe to this channel.
How do you do the cable bind off? (Is that what you call it? I'm done my little dishcloth lol, and started with the cable cast on...but how do I finish?
Omg, I have been using a similar, but less effective method for 40!! Years. Thank you so much for showing me the way!! Love your shirt and your "jig" at the end! Well done!
Thank you. This was so helpful to make my Carter Stitch Shawl. Got a pattern last Friday with no explanation and instruction. It just said knit 5 stitches take two off and continue, that was it. It is also a very nice look, I will use your cast on next time I am knitting socks.
How timely! I am trying to learn this cast-on for a Christmas project! This was very helpful and more comprehensive than other tutorials I've referred to. Really appreciate this video. WELL DONE and THANK YOU!
Love it...you are as nuts as my family! My dad taught me to knit a thousand years ago. He was taught by some Nuns in a kids home he was placed in way back in the 1930's. He could knit but I'm pretty sure none of his male friends knew he could. I was taught to crochet by a school friend when I was about 8-10, somewhere in there, can't remember. I love both but crocheting is cool because you see results fast. I hope I get lots of tips from you and the others on here. Thanks and...most definitely 'yarn on!'😜
I initially watched this for the cast on, but I am also fascinated as to what the pattern is on the sample. (Sort of a line and a slant). Thank you for the great site.
That stitch is called the Double Knit Fabric Stitch. Similar to stockinette but with a slip stitch included. newstitchaday.com/double-knit-fabric-stitch/
@@lauraosgood9130 sorry but I have to correct you as this is not the double stockinette stitch. To achieve the pattern in this video, you have to knit all stockinette stitches through the back loop with yarn wrapped from bottom up, while all purl stitches have to be knitted through the back loop with yarn wrapped over the top. 🕊
Thank you NSAD! As always your explanation was very helpful. I was able to use this for a pattern that called for this on the 4th row to make a button hole. It's so pretty. :)
Good tutorial... but why do so many cast-on videos fail to show starting the next row, so we (well, I, anyway) can see how to keep the first stitch of the next row nice & tight?
Hi! Nice cast on! I like that one. Question: What are the stitches that are used after that? It's not your typical knit/purl knitting? These look like tiny rope twists! Beautiful. Do you have a video for this?
Nice video, but I, like many others are left wondering what the cable "cast off" looks like. I guess someone does not read the comment section.... bummer, I would have subbed
Are you sure this is stocking stitch? It looks like it has have a half V and a bar running up the left side of the stitches...I have searched all my stitch books and haven't found a similar stitch. A comment below says it is because of the yarn used, but is it? I love the way this stitch pattern looks!
I love this cast on method, however, I started a scarf with a cable cast on and then directly started 2x2 ribbing from the cast on row. I cannot for the life of me find a video/link/tutorial that explains or shows how to do a cable cast off in ribbing. I tried the stitch over stitch "in pattern" (knit knits, purl the purl stitches) cast off method but it's very square-like (my cast on is tighter and more rounded). I'm super sad lol. Any advice? I don't know much knitting lingo.
Becky Williams its easy to adapt to continental, basically just hold the wool in your left hand. - slip knot for first stitch, same as standard cast on, - knit 1 stitch as you normally would for standard cast on ( through slip knot, yarn over, pull through, slip onto left needle) - put the right needle in between the slip knot and first stitch as shown in video - treat this like a regular cast on knit stitch (ie, yarn over, pull through, slip onto left needle) - repeat previous steps (minus slip knot obviously) for desired number of stitches
Hi! My completed knitting projects consist of two baby blankets for our first two grandbabies❤❤ A friend of mine did the casting on and off for me on the first one, and used the Cable cast stitch. Beautiful! The second blanket I got on RUclips and found the easiest cast on stitch I could find, practiced it, then knitted the blanket very proudly all be myself 😌. This time I want to use a nicer stitch, and I love that it stretches. However, your video moves way to fast for me! Do you have a video with step by step instructions for the Cable Cast On Stitch that you do each step of the stitch s l o w l y ? With 7 steps just to make one stitch, I'm wondering if I can master this. I'd love to try, but I'll never be able to at the rate of speed you do in your video. Obviously I'm in the beginning stages of knitting, I know one stitch, and I'm 64. I wish that I had learned so many years ago when my grandma Sugar wanted to teach me. She wanted to teach me needlepoint too. I was a teenage idiot. Thanks for your help if you can. Yours is the first video I saw when I began looking the other day. I subscribed. 👍 Debbie ✌
Hey Debbie! Congrats on the grand babies! We do have an older version of this video. The quality isn't quite as good, but the pace might be a little slower: ruclips.net/video/sdsBnZbULRs/видео.html
Usually I tend to think men and women can do anything the other can. But when it comes to knitting, men freak me out. They carry this tone about them like, "Im a man and I can do even womens work like a man"...LMAO
I love the look of this cast on.... nice job! Do you have a cast OFF that looks similar?
I've been knitting for over fifty years and this cast on is new to me. It's a godsend for the chemo caps I make on circular needles. No more juggling dps or a second circular to get that first round started! Thank you so much.
Great directions. Very concise and so helpful!!
Also thank you for the little dance at the end, it really cheered me up on a dull day.
Thank you very much!
I love this cast on! It's very pretty and you show how easy it is to do. Thank you!

Neat, never knew the name of it. I have cast on this way for over 60 years...basically, it's the only cast on I can do!
I love the quality of ur instruction thank u so much for that! Great tutorial!😇
Started a sweater and used your cast on . Easy and very neat looking. Thanks for sharing!
I loved your instruction on cable cast on...It was the best I’ve seen so far!!!🙂 Thank you!!!
I love this! Do you have a cable cast off video

I love this cast on..... can you show us a cast off method that can even out the look??!!! ♡
Like others, I have knit for years and haven't tried this cast on. It will be my new cast on from now on. Thank you 😊
Thank you. This was so helpful to make my Carter Stitch Shawl. Got a pattern last Friday with no explanation and instruction. It just said knit 5 stitches take two off and continue, that was it. It is also a very nice look, I will use your cast on next time I am knitting socks.
As always New Stitch A Day has helped me out of a bind. Thanks so much, your videos are little treasures.
Love the new stitch a day. Great tutorials.
Thanks for the tutorial ! very easy to understand ! your wife is blessed to have you :)
How timely! I am trying to learn this cast-on for a Christmas project! This was very helpful and more comprehensive than other tutorials I've referred to. Really appreciate this video. WELL DONE and THANK YOU!
Can you recommend a matching cast off for the cable cast on? Standard cast off is nowhere near as stretchy.
this was so good. very easy to follow. thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I love the look of that yarn!!!
Do you have a video instructing how to cable cast off?

Thank you for giving me a name for my favourite cast on.
Thank you so much - I love this method of casting on.
Great instructions and loooovely end 😂😂😂😂😂♥️
It was super helpful putting my needle between the stitches before tightening down! Simple step but I hadn’t thought of it.
I initially watched this for the cast on, but I am also fascinated as to what the pattern is on the sample. (Sort of a line and a slant). Thank you for the great site.
K Clarke me, too!
Hi, the rest of the sample is a basic stockinette stitch. All knit on one side and all purl on the other. :)
That stitch is called the Double Knit Fabric Stitch. Similar to stockinette but with a slip stitch included. newstitchaday.com/double-knit-fabric-stitch/

this is the miracle i needed!
Okay, first the little dance was the best, seriously though, thank you for all the videos, very helpful.
😂 the end, haha I loved it ❤
Thanks for sharing, you've just perfected my cast on xxx
HELOISA ARRAIA how do I finiush my work with the similar cast on'? Thank you for your help. Cascais Portugal
I wish to know which other stitch is used in the sample shown.
i like your cast on you have just perfected my cast on thanks
Thank you NSAD! As always your explanation was very helpful. I was able to use this for a pattern that called for this on the 4th row to make a button hole. It's so pretty. :)
Great casting on thanks but what is the knitting stick? it looks lovely.
Thanks for showing kniring cable
The founder is better looking than I thought he would be. Haha Thank you. I needed to l3arn this cast on for a hat.
Good tutorial... but why do so many cast-on videos fail to show starting the next row, so we (well, I, anyway) can see how to keep the first stitch of the next row nice & tight?
Wow,,,,it's really amazing.
Easy to follow. I feel like I'm knitting with two left hands. I will learn eventually. Thanks!!!
Love the cast on and love the dance!
Do you actually do the same cast on like this all the way round? If so, how? Please show as I love it!
Wow - I love this! So would this type of cast on prevent the stockinette from curling?
I love love love this method of cast on.... one questions how do you do the last stitch ?
This is an excellent tutorial, sir. Do you also have a vid for buttonholes? I would appreciate that very much. Thank you.
Please please tell me what that beautiful pattern is in this tutorial!!
That ending actually made me tear up with laughter. Thank you.
Your videos are very very good! thank you
Great cast on . love it. subscribed!

Hi! Nice cast on! I like that one. Question: What are the stitches that are used after that? It's not your typical knit/purl knitting? These look like tiny rope twists! Beautiful. Do you have a video for this?
terrific beautifully demonstrated thank you
Do you have a cast-off video with a result that looks like this?
Thank you so much. 🙂👍❤
Very nice thank you
This pattern is pretty! How do i knit it?
Very nice cast on, I will try this
Hi,I love this cast on method but what is the stitch used in that piece of work after casting on?
Nice video, but I, like many others are left wondering what the cable "cast off" looks like. I guess someone does not read the comment section.... bummer, I would have subbed
excellent. thanks so much
I really like this cast on, thank you for the tutorial on it. Is there a cast off to give you the same look at the end of your project

My stockinette comes out similarly. I'm actually relieved to know I'm not the only one. It's really stockinette stitch.
i like it!! im gonna do it, great vid!! thank you!
Subscribed! Men are so much better in many cases at knitting tutorials. They don't assume anything! Great work and I love the dance at the end 😂
Thanks sweety you so nice! I appreciate your hands dance! Saludos fraternos desde Colombia!

Your the best
When I try to add the knit for the first row after casting on, my knit falls apart! Am I missing a step?
Can you demonstrate with continental style please if possible?
Becky Williams its easy to adapt to continental, basically just hold the wool in your left hand.
- slip knot for first stitch, same as standard cast on,
- knit 1 stitch as you normally would for standard cast on ( through slip knot, yarn over, pull through, slip onto left needle)

Where do I find the pattern to knit a Cardigan shown by kiran..it only shows the video.
does this cast on method give you a curly hem???
What stitch pattern is this swatch? Thank you.

Does anyone know where that shirt is from or where I could get one? It's so tacky and I have to have it.
Thank you for sharing! I would also like a tutorial of the stitch shown at the beginning of the video :)
Rossella Santoro Wilson It's stockinette: ruclips.net/video/Fse7UsMfL7w/видео.html
Nice knit in the piece shown, I just don't recognize it, can anyone tell me??☺️
Thank you.
And is it really stockinette stitch on the sample piece at the beginning of your video?? It looks so different....
Neesa4sure different yarns will make stockinett stitch look like it has a line running vertically up your rows. It is the yarn and not a new stitch.😃
Sorry, I didn't notice right away that some folks asked the same question in the past. Thank you.
Thanks!!!!
This video has improved my quality of life significantly
Would help if the black writing wasn't in the way
Who ever thought......March 2020 in isolation at home and need some motivation and to be useful..

If you're reading any tone into how I present my content, it's entirely your own perception. I'm pretty sure that knitting is gender neutral. ;)
Sooooo Slow!
