1986 was the most magical year of my life
Thank you for uploading this to RUclips. My parents and I lived in Malpas from August 1986 to May 1989. I showed this video to Mum, who was reduced to tears when she saw Malpas and the Red Lion pub. Mum and I visited the Red Lion in 1987 after visiting my late Father in hospital. The landlord and landlady (who appear in the video) had made us sandwiches, because we arrived after they finished serving hot food. That was so kind of them. A lovely memory of a lovely pub in a lovely little town.
I missed these days, they were so much better. I loved Wish You Were Here, as a young kid it made you want to see the world because this program was one of the only ways you could. I think somedays we are just so much better without the internet. Thanks for the episode.
And not just that long before narcissistic Instagram and social media influencers had to show off destinations in a way that totally deprives them of charm.
@@jmxtvarchive9064 Brilliant, 1000% spot on.
Seeing Peter Marshall talking, the Thames opening ident, and the Wish You Were Here theme, brought a tear to my eye.
I’d have been 10 years old a week before this was broadcast. I can imagine us all sitting around and watching this.
Thank you for sharing. ❤
I loved watching Wish You Were Here as a kid. My grandparents met Judith Chalmers when they went to Newcastle in Northern Ireland sometime in the 1970s or 80s, not sure exactly when. My mum told me they saw her riding on a horse and cart along Newcastle Promenade. Judith asked them if they would like to be on an episode of Wish You Were Here. I never found out why, but they turned her down.
I first visited the Seychelles in April 1976 aged 21 and stayed at the incredible Coral Strand Hotel on the Beau Vallon Beach, magnificent!
Also visited Praslin and La Digue, both incredible. Nearing my 70th birthday, but fantastic memories of a magnificent vacation destination.

Wish you were Hyarr
great full episode hope there is more
Finding things like this is my life's mission!
My childhood
I love how someone is making the bed every time they show a room. This was a real blast from the past, especially the ads at the beginning (I miss Findus Crispy Pancakes)
You could buy a pack at Asda later today?
I remember Judith Chalmers complaining about her job in an interview. I was a Kings Cross peep show cleaner at the time. I was fuming I can tell you! I wrote an obscene poison pen letter to Points of View and never heard back.
No point writing to Points of View about an ITV programme is there?
@@jmxtvarchive9064 I was joking :)
That suntan
Thanks. It's a shame life's really gone down😢hill at the trecarn.I mean
you would have to be desperate to stay there nowadays. The couple in
the room next to mine were having a fight! And one guy who was turned away from checking in was completely stoned.
Thought it was a bbc show surprised with the ads?
The BBC one was simply called 'Holiday' if I remember correctly.
@@samurai-capybaraYou are right. 😃
The other theme tune was much better than this one
Dont like that theme glad they changed it
