@rcrotorfreak what I need to figure out is how to get telemetry from my flight controller on to my tx16 with crossfire. As it's a whole new setup for me. But, good try buddy ;)
@@yuriykovalov2936 I believe the option is in the model settings, Discover Sensors or Discovery something and then the radio can receive all the telemetry.
Lee, 2 years ago, your videos got me back into the hobby with my new Taranis and OpenTX. Looks like your videos will help me to the next level. Seems like I should upgrade my TX to a new RadioMaster too.. Thanks, Will
I made the change at v2.7 and was very pleased I did. Now v2.8 is just soooo good. There is still a learning curve for people coming off things like Spektrum but I honestly believe that a few good videos, like yours, and they'd be off and running.
I'm happy you're giving Edge tx a second chance! I switched to it early on when I was Inav building planes and it's been great. I only used the Black pearl and nightly builds and never had issues but also I'm using the software on a Radio master Tx12 which isn't touchscreen and can't take full advantage of all the lua scripts you've mentioned
I never stopped giving it a chance. I was patiently waiting for the things I need to work. Using a flight controller in a model usually means that only the basic functions for channel setup are needed now it can do what I need for non FC stuff too... . Happy flying
Yes I will update/flash back EdgeTX! So happy to see it improoved for Fixed Wing ops. Stability was an issue for me and I hope that got better too...I'll find out soon - thx
Fantastic! Thanks a bunch for the video, Lee! 😃 It's a real shame the status of OpenTX... But I'm happy we have EdgeTX! Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Hi good to see those updates , Few suggestions to add Radio master tx16s need to get the live video feed like here link system ,with display or without display that the video can be visible in laptop or mobile phones through usb cable ... waiting for this from radio master .hope we will get soon .
Maybe a video on what still does not work? Or is there not enough to talk about? I'm like you and am into ardu and telemetry. I would like to make the switch but don't want to get caught out if something I expect to work doesn't. Thank you Lee and much love to you and yours this holiday season.
It is more of the things like sometimes the wizards glitch (graphics missing maybe), things like you can't pull the points on a curve with your fingertips.. All of the basics that pilots like us need seem to be sorted. I'd wait until Yappu have an official release for EdgeTX before thinking of moving if you use it a lot.. If you have a setup that works great for you, then the work to change may not be worth it right now as you get what you've got at the moment but on a new system with less proven flight hours.
Ive been using this version for about 2 weeks now. It's good! Normally I'm not to keen on installing beta version, but this time I did for one specific reason. I was heaving this emergency mode happening on my TX16s. I have watched a fee videos on how to fix it and one of them was recommending to change some ribbon cable. I bought the cable ,but then I found this new beta version of Edge Tx ,so I decided to try it first. Installed it and the problem is gone. It never happened again! But before it was happening a few times a day... Go figure
Thanks for the video. I'm flying both LOS and FPV on semi-scale models, ASW28 and Grand Tundra. I have a Radiomaster TX16S (ver.1), mainly using Crossfire RX and INAV. I've been reluctant to switch to the Edge TX because I eventually learned to use Open TX and the Companion. I'm not very good with touch screens. And I haven't seen any procedures for transferring models to the Edge TX. Will you please give me good arguments (in short) for me to do the switch?
I followed the process listed here - github.com/EdgeTX/edgetx.github.io/wiki/EdgeTX-Installation-Guide I'd perform a full backup of the radio before you start using OpenTX companion - firmware, EEPROM and SD card contents - before you start. Copy the firmware to the SD card and flash it from there. Copy the RADIO AND MODELS directories to the SD card with the new EdgetX files on it and when it starts it'll convert the models it finds..
I bricked my tx trying to download this and not can't get my radio into DFU or bootloader. Wish I had left it alone 😅. Where can I find some live tech support?
Hoping one day to move to EdgeTX, the problem is it doesn't support internal Bluetooth (which I have installed into my TX16s) so I use it with my wireless head tracker. Does any one know if this has been fixed in 2.8?
I am flying an E-Flite Spitfire with the installed AR636. It seems that I have trouble making good landings when using my TX16S vs my NX10. Is there a difference in the servo travel when using my TX16S vs my Spektrum NX10?
Hello Thanks for your vidéo. I installed 2.8. I have a question : I did'nt find Lua scripts for Frsky SXR receivers . How to calibrate and configuré theses receivers with Edgetx ?
2yrs of development and they are starting to catch up with OpenTX then. I've yet to find any features in EdgeTX that I use, or wish to use, that aren't currently available in OpenTX. My biggest gripe with the UI is that it's constant scrolling on the mixers/inputs/logical & special function page as it's lost a lot of the real estate due to prioritising the Touch UI - I wonder if they will have a TX16 non-Touch optimised UI option. As a non-Touch user how easy is it to navigate using new UI using only buttons/roller?
Very easy to navigate with the main controls if touch isn't your thing. Same as with OpenTX. My issue with EdgeTX last year was that (back then) lots of things that had been working great in OpenTX were not there or not working well in EdgeTX. My expectations had been set sky-high by the usual suspects claiming 'Game-changer' but in reality it was only just getting the basics working well. It is now where I expected it to be (from the hype) this time last year. Happy to see the project progressing and improving. Modern radios have lots of extra abilities for similar setups and usage and EdgeTX look like they are now working on it for everyone (not just quad pilots). Stay tuned!
I'm glad it's not just me that found it a bit frustrating. It appears that 2.8 has been designed for radios with a bigger screen and no hardware buttons or scroll wheel. Unfortunately my RadioMaster TX16 screen isn't very big and is quite low resolution. With this update all of the controls have become bigger so can't see as many of them on screen at once. It feels like I have to constantly swipe up and down to both see settings and to be able to find one I want to change. It would be nice if the physical buttons could be made use of to enable more info to be displayed on screen at once. I have 6 models, in 2.7 they were all easy to see on the models screen. In 2.8 a lot of the model selection screen space has been lost to the labels panel on the left. This means there's less space to see models and you have to scroll more now to see them. It would be nice, for those people that don't have labels and don't have a need for them, to be able to get that screen space back. I do really like the on screen keyboard though, that's a lot better than scrolling through the entire alphabet. If somebody brings out a new radio with a larger, higher resolution screen, then Edge TX would be a winner. For now though, I feel like its wasting some of the abilities my radio has, such as the scroll wheel and buttons. I know its still early days, I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops, hopefully some of these issues will be addressed.
I’m using a QX7 and a Radiomaster TX12 MKII. The QX7 has EdgeTX2.7, and the TX12 has version 2.8. I haven’t taken a deep dive into 2.8, but till now i don’t see many differences between the versions. Is that because all the things you mention in this video are only available with touch screen radio’s? Or do i have to take a deeper dive into 2.8 🤔
Not that I've seen. I've just had a quick look in the project repository on Github and I can't see anyone who've asked for it either. I'd add a request for that in Github. Best of luck!

@@richardjohnson2331 Thanks I did search for such a product some time back, but could not find what I was looking for. Do you know how the menu option would be like if I tried this? Because in my X9Lite I select the external module r9m lite pro (eu version), but when I was looking into this when I furst got my TX16S there is no option in the OpenTX companion to make the r9m lite options even appear in the external rf list. @@Painless360I already have Edge installed. I installed it when it first came out. Not worried about the models as I only use one for all my quads. Not sure about all the other settings.
All they need to do now is make it easier to set a model like spectrum already does for you. I've come from the spectrum dx8 to the radiomaster.tx16s and it's all alian to me .I can just about set a plane but any 3d helicopter ect I can't get my head round the so complicated way of adding this and that to get a modle to work Were spekrum has made it so easy with out all the complicated mixing this and that. Perhaps edge Tx will make ite easy in the near future.
Well here’s the thing I’ve spent hours putting my fpv drones on my radio master open tx system and I really want to upgrade but I’m scared as hell I’m gonna lose my models if I do I need a video walk through or something
It usually refers to any models that create lift from a fixed wing rather than a rotor so flying wings, aeroplanes and gliders are classed as 'fixed wing'. The answer to the second question is more about the heli you have. I have videos showing the setup for flybarless and flybar models on the channel. Support for older, flybarless, models is still a little clunky..
I know EdgeTx is good & I'm very familiar with OpenTX but I've just gone down the Ethix route with a FRSky X20S Tandem TX after spending literally weeks deciding & asking people I trust. I know FRSky have had issues in their recent past but I'm willing to put this behind them & I've always loved my X9D+'s. Preferred the build quality of the X20s over the TX16 although it was a close call
I still don’t think EdgeTX is stable enough. I tried 2.8 last week and it was all working but then my TX16S seemed to slow down, the goodbye sound started stuttering and it just got worse, so I’ve gone back to OpenTX.
I am a strictly LOS fixed-wing, no telemetry, no FPV, no flight controller user of EdgeTX 2.7 (and very happy with it!) in a Mark 1 TX16S. Would you recommend moving to 2.8 now or are the improvements too little so far for my use to warrant a switch? Thanks!
It is a very personal choice. The changes between the two versions seem decent enough to warrant a change but if it is all working fro you on 2.7 and you don't need to upgrade yet.. then maybe it will be better to hold off.
If it work why fix it? It aint worth it if you cant move something to new and have to relearn extra things. Depend on mentally though. Are you fast learner or not? Are you willing to learn something with paitence. Some one who los no telemetry and no flight controler. Don't swap. You don't need new things. New gen is going to bring you in to change but they don't do what you do. They do more. And think everyone should be like them. Fan'ism. Don't switch by i recommend you atleast since you basic just get a bit into telemetry. RSSI and getting data back of battery powering receiver. That's all. Gas plane use dual. What you flying for los?
has anybody made a Edge upgrade to a old Taranis 9xd and is it worth it? still using the opentx and should update it. i thought i can switch instead directly to edgetx. using luas from TBS, i think the other stuff i use is not critical., but the Taranis is old already, but Hall gimbals always work finde. i lstill love it
What about those of us that only have RC Boats ? Not everyone just flies quads, helicopters and planes ... And not everyone of those RC model boaters wants to use pistol grip tx!
I have ELRS 900mhz hardware installed on my Radiomaster TX16s and am running Edge 2.7. I finally finally finally got the maps and telem working (iNav and Yaapu) after spending a couple of days tinkering and watching tutorials back in August 2022 or so. Right now I do have a few color configuration issues that were not fully resolved between the Edge/iNav/Yaapu/Lua stuff, but otherwise the mapping and telemetry seem to work OK. That being said, the thought of upgrading to 2.8 now terrifies me. Am I justified in my hesitancy, or is Edge 2.8 worth the upgrade, and are the old maps and telem scripts still working, or would I need to install newest and latest, presuming they've been updated? From watching tutorials I tend to dislike the newer GUI design relative to 2.7 as they make such poor use of screen space with such jumbo buttons in 2.8 or so it seems. I think it would be less intuitive to navigate the way that it is now where it is so touchscreen oriented. Your thoughts = ?
I am of the school of thought that 'if it works, don't bug*er about with it'. It is a very personal choice. Do the benefits of the upgrade outweigh the risks of having to work with something that isn't right in the new version? I've only just got this radio working with Yappu here and that was the last of the things that I needed to get serious about EdgeTX use..

I've come from the spectrum dx8 to the radiomaster.tx16s and it's all alian to me .I can just about set a plane but any 3d helicopter ect I can't get my head round the so complicated way of adding this and that to get a modle to work
Were spekrum has made it so easy with out all the complicated mixing this and that.
Perhaps edge Tx will make ite easy in the near future.

Thank you
Well here’s the thing I’ve spent hours putting my fpv drones on my radio master open tx system and I really want to upgrade but I’m scared as hell I’m gonna lose my models if I do I need a video walk through or something
If you try it then I'd backup the existing radio, EEPROM and SD card and keep it all safe in case you want to go back.. Best of luck!
I can't get my sounds Working!! Any idea!!
You name it I tried it !!??
Doesn't say Welcome to edge Tx !!
Where are they on the SD card?
Make sure they're under an "en" sub folder.
@@davidhazell8154 it is Had my Taranis 6 years ! As I said tell me something I haven't tried???
my taranis died after upgrading but started again after replugging battery, I have no idea what happened
What does fixed wing mean, because I fly only helicopters is edge the way to go
It usually refers to any models that create lift from a fixed wing rather than a rotor so flying wings, aeroplanes and gliders are classed as 'fixed wing'.
The answer to the second question is more about the heli you have. I have videos showing the setup for flybarless and flybar models on the channel. Support for older, flybarless, models is still a little clunky..
@@Painless360 okay thank you
I know EdgeTx is good & I'm very familiar with OpenTX but I've just gone down the Ethix route with a FRSky X20S Tandem TX after spending literally weeks deciding & asking people I trust. I know FRSky have had issues in their recent past but I'm willing to put this behind them & I've always loved my X9D+'s. Preferred the build quality of the X20s over the TX16 although it was a close call
Check out my ET series. Very good hardware.
@@Painless360 Thanks! Will hold for now.
Whats the point? Open TX has far surpassed edge
See my first video on Edgetx.. happy flying
has anybody made a Edge upgrade to a old Taranis 9xd and is it worth it? still using the opentx and should update it. i thought i can switch instead directly to edgetx. using luas from TBS, i think the other stuff i use is not critical., but the Taranis is old already, but Hall gimbals always work finde. i lstill love it
Still not convinced!
Can't get my head around it!
Setting gf ,ect,!@
See my Opentx and EdgeTX mix school..
I need to retire my Jumper T16 and get with the program. Lol
Jumper T16 is fully supported by EdgeTX 2.8.
@@daniele.markle6428 Was not aware. I will look into that. Thank you. Mabey that will help with ELRS to.
What about those of us that only have RC Boats ? Not everyone just flies quads, helicopters and planes ... And not everyone of those RC model boaters wants to use pistol grip tx!
See my videos on that. Happy boating!
Ok mister painless I did it I freak A did it and it wasn’t painless mostly! My story I backed up my sd like u told me but I managed to flash the wrong thing to my radio master firmware tx16s 😮 I thought I was FFFffff--dddd believe me I was in a panic like I need a new radio now panic 😂 but I said bugger going to the edge tx site and and plugged my black screen ya I said it no boot up black screen radio into my computer hands folded in prayer I let the automatic edge installer do it update flash my system then I unplugged my cables from the computer pushed the power on an oh my gosh the radio booted up to Edge tx with my models and all 🎉 I need a drink after that cheers so my suggestion back up ur sd card the go to the edge tx site and let them do the work .
