I know Mario doesnt intentionally knock luigi into the lava like the original but him doing it on PURPOSE in this animation just makes it so much more impactful. Mario would NEVER under any circumstance kill his own brother, no matter what situation. But once Luigi decided to side with Bowser, marios SWORN enemy it was at that moment where Luigi wasn't Marios brother anymore, he was just another Koopa in the way of the princess. It may have took him like 3 stages of grief to put it together, but once he realised Luigi was trying to kill him he just had to yknow.. remind Luigi why hes player two. At the end, when Luigi was on his knees and the brothers stood there with their hats down not even looking at eachother while the lava burns under the bridge, in such a short fight that lasted LITERALLY a minute, Mario had come to terms with reality that his brother is a traitor and technically still acting out of anger to his own brothers betrayal he knocks him off into the lava. Luigi, who looked up at Mario for a second before being knocked into the lava via Marios cape, now burning to death while screaming the iconic "OH GOD NO." And the end of the animation, we see whats left of Luigi walking towards the exit Mario had taken, his body moving only because of his own hatred for his own flesh and blood. The ONLY thing keeping his body together. Beautiful animation and execution of such a simple story.
I’m the original I think he got Luigi in the lava by accident. In this animation, Mario coulda just left Luigi there and progress further through the stage, but he decided to just hit him into the lava. I don’t think Mario would cry after doing that

He doesn't fight just to fight He fights at first out of self defense but realizing luigi intends to kill him he has no choice but to go all out. I like how you trimmed the fat on this and made sensical non intrusive additions. The dead Marios, the pools of blood, The Bonzai Bill Chase, The Weird Mushroom were all very unnecessary, and the main addition, IHY Luigi's descent actually being shown, was very, very nice. Sick work as always Pixel!
