@@TravellingWithCon I also higly recommend smaller towns. My top among those are
      1. Zamość - amazing town listed on UNESCO list because of its stunning renessaince architecture. One day is enough to see around the old town but in late spring it's nice to sea also also the area - Roztocze with charming fields and National park - great to visit on one day bike tour in late spring, in full bloom.
      2. Sanok - amazing little town with castle that hosts the exhibitiin of brilliant, gloomy Beksiński works, also open air museum - the best in Poland, worth visiting even if you're not so very into such atractions normally. Sanok is also the gate to nearby Bieszczady mountains - stunning "Polish Alaska" - my favourite mountains in the country with dark sky parks, tiny wooden churches from UNESCO list and rich wildlife - bisons, wolves, bears ,lynx... and amazing Solińskie lake.
      3. Stary Sącz - cute, little town/village with great surrounding, especially Czorsztyńskie lake with castles at it's banks and great bike trail surrounding it and Pieniny mountains with spectacular Dunajec gorge.
      4. Żywiec - beautifull old town, famous brevery, great Żywieckie lake and Beskid żywiecki mountains right next to the town, plus nice, annual rock/pop music festival "Męskie granie" and other great spots in near proximity like f. eg. Pszczyna with palace.
      5. Bolesławiec - great, cozy old town, famous pottery manufacture and annual pottery festival. Just up to 40 km from the town lies also worth visiting German gem of Górlitz.
      6. Frombork - charming red brick town, connected with Coppernicus, with nice planetarium. Lies on the banks of Vistula lagoon, not far from famous Malbork castle and picturesque, sandy vistula spit.
      7. Lidzbark warmiński - another red brick town with stunning old town. Lidzbark hosts annual festival of cabarets. It is also quite close to beautiful lake district in north-eastern Poland and for example to Żywkowo "white stork village".
Honorable mension to Olsztyn, Grudziądz, Kazimierz Dolny, Sandomierz, Reszel, Chełmno and Starogard Gdański. Oh boy, there is so many more but I choosed only from towns that I visited myself and that also have interesting things to do nearby. Since I'm from south Poland and I love hiking, I've visited mostly places on the south of Poland. Good luck and enjoy. 🙂

Łódź will probably be a gem on the map of Poland in 10 years' time. Łódź is a city that has been through a lot and it was quite late that the right person was elected there by the inhabitants as the city's mayor. It is a city that started to develop later than other cities in Poland after the fall of communism, but it is developing beautifully now. If all the old tenement houses in Łódź are restored, it will be beautiful.

I would agree with ranking you created, maybe would take a little from Krakow. It really isn’t that much better than Wroclaw for instance. You can find more diversity in terms of things to do in Wroclaw/Warsaw comparing to Krakow.
Please be cautious while talking about concentration camps. Term “polish concentration camp” may get on people’s nerves. These were never “polish” but just on polish territory. Poles were the ones who died there.

Kraków is the royal capital of Poland while Wrocław is thoroughly polluted by German influences. There’s nothing there like the Wawel Royal Castle and the Wawel Cathedral where the last true Polish kings, the Piasts, are buried.

    • @tomaszargentynczyk8635
      @tomaszargentynczyk8635 4 месяца назад

@@markg1531 Kraków is historically important, but as a city is quite cliche. People go there because of the former capital and royal history, but it just gets boring.
Wrocław has beautiful architecture that is more diverse, many newer attractions like ZOO, Hydropolis, Kolejkowo, SkyTower viewing point etc. It has more diversity to offer and honestly, Wroclaw has better location on the islands than Kraków.
Ignoring all the history, Kraków has no edge over Wrocław today. Kraków might have Wawel but Wrocław has Hala Stulecia which is another UNESCO world heritage site. Not to mention hundreds of castles and palaces around the city.

Going to big cities for tourism is not the best idea.
I live in Poland and travelled this country far and wide (mostly in business, but i was sightseeing a lot too.)
I recommend visiting small tourist attractions in smaller cities/towns.
Also don't eat in bars by main streets, they mostly serve expensive shitty food. And whatever you do don't eat in bars near sea or offbrand kebab bars.

Actually visiting the big cities is a great way to see a lot of things. I've visited Krakow, Gdansk, and Wroclaw, and had a fantastic time in all of them. There are plenty of museums, cathedrals, and historic buildings to see in the main cities and they are very easy to reach. Not everyone needs to go off the beaten track to have a great time visiting a country.
