    Great video. Only comment is my personal experience with epoxy and polyester resin is that they can be very lossy for up to a month after first hardening. I found shellac the least lossy, spar varnish and solvent based urethane coming up next with the advantage of being less likely to fracture with handling.

    I have to say, that the one tesla TS is a nice kit but there is a signifficant problem with the way, they desingt the circuit.
    Because they have no soft start to slowely charge the high voltage high capacity bus caps, like this the high inrush current when plugging in the coil will eventually blow the full bridge rectifier. For that reason I added an external soft start in the power cable.
    Also my primary overheats very quickly at full power, I might reinforce it with some additiona wire.

    This isn't megavolts, maybe 75-100kv.
    3MV/meter is required to break down air, but this can only be used to determine voltage from an arc length if you are concerned with infinite parallel conductive planes. That's to say no real experimental setup allows for this correlation to be made accurately.
    Circuit simulation of our 8ft tesla coil producing 15 foot discharges predicted a maximum output voltage of 1.2MV.

      dreams = shattered

    • @highvoltagefeathers
      @highvoltagefeathers 5 лет назад +4

      @@reps It's not the voltage but how you use it! Look at the QCW Tesla coils and Tesla guns out there. They can make discharges over 8 feet long but with just 50-60 kV! In the end isn't it the spark that counts?

    • @reps

    • @hydron7833
      @hydron7833 5 лет назад +2

      Maybe build a big bipolar Marx generator to get 1MV?
      Unfortunately highvoltagefeathers is correct - my coil with a ~160*750mm secondary (= 2 - 2.5m arcs) gave me measurements on the order of 500kV peak (derived from current measured into/out of topload - I floated a wifi connected scope on the topload once to get the numbers).

    5% resistors should be fine actually, in my experience with Solid state tesla coils, I've found that resistor values aren't usually that important.
    Oh, also they didn't come up with the schematic, at least not most of it. It seems to be a modified version of Steve wards "mini SSTC" circuit. It's a good choice though, since it gives high performance and it's pretty simple.
