Shai Gilgeous-Alexander - Superb Separation 20/21

- Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Superstar.
At the time of this writing (03/22/21), Shai is averaging 23.5 points on 50.9/40.9/80.7 shooting splits - an effective field goal percentage of 57.2 per Cleaning the Glass. He’s attempting 4.8 three pointers and 6.6 free throws a game. Throw in 4.8 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and a career best 31.9% usage and you just about have the only thing buoying the Oklahoma City Thunder offense.
This number may fluctuate as the season goes on but Shai leads the league in drives per game at 25.2 - better than Luka Doncic’s 22.3 or Ja Morant’s 19.4.
To watch Shai snake and shake is a sensation. He’ll show and slow and go until you’re in the tree of woe. He’ll dance and dizzy defenders with a devilishly delightful handle. Gilgeous-Alexander is an ambidextrous finisher with fantastic footwork and he’ll finesse you into thinking you can get to a shot you never had a shot at.
He has this immense ability to go full speed and bump off defenders and then bring himself to a completely balanced position and then pull-up - sometimes off of the off-foot. It’s pure insanity how he can manage to make himself small when the moment calls for it. He takes that long and lanky frame and shrinks it to slink by defenders and then he’ll slide and stride to the bucket.
His In & Out dribble is devastating enough to warrant a mini-video all its own.
Per Synergy, he’s in the 91ST PERCENTILE IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE as a pick and roll ball handler. 1.114 points per possession (PPP) on 333 possessions.
He’s excellent around the basket on non Post-Ups, averaging 1.335 PPP on 191 possessions - AND - AND - he again ranks in the 91st percentile in the league on pull-up jumpers: 1.129 PPP on 201 possessions.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: even though they were only together for a single season, the time Shai spent with Chris Paul exponentially increased whatever his ceiling could be.

SGA"s one of my favorite players in the league. So underrated.
fax im okc fan he my favorite
Underrated by whom? Everyone who follows basketball considers him an up and coming star.
@@ninjachannel007 he was a snub
@@beckybenisz9440 No he was NOT. The all star team is always based on top performers on winning teams. There are simply better guards in the west on better teams. It is YOU who is underrating him by basing his value on awards instead of his play.
@@ninjachannel007 he is underrated. he was ranked the 23rd best player age 24 or younger. he is never talked about by the media at all. true fans know he is a good up and coming star but he doesnt get coverage or talked about a lot at all in the media
It’s so dope nowadays to see a player who’s game isn’t based off his three but his ability to drive. He literally counters everything off of whether or not his matchup and their team respect his ability to drive and finish
but he can shoot it though. he's 40% from 3 and he's been making stepback 3s. I totally see your point but driving alone is easier to guard than what Shai does. even Lebron who is a legend at "non-shooting" had to improve that skill in the last couple of seasons
I love this kid, he always looks like he’s having fun out there even on the sideline when he can’t play he’s up and dancing whenever one of his teammates does something special.
Bc he is a young Canadian playing with his fav players I’d be happy too
@@truthmatters758 idk bro, i feel like the person atop his list would be his cousin nickeil.
i think he just loves the game.
@@jakobe328 yeah really? I haven’t seen him they are both from my home town and my friends played ball with them in hamilton His cousin was acc considered better in highschool
Such a smooth and crafty player. Can't wait till he fully develops his game. If he can continue improving his jumpshot and defense he can be an even greater player than he already is
Lowkey could be next kawhi
@@taylorstraughan6536 bro ima okc fan bit this is noWhere near a great comparison he’s like a bigger kyrie Irving ( better defensively)
@@B2Real2k yeah idk y I said that lmao. Idk a good comparison for shai, he is unique which is good in the end
@@taylorstraughan6536 yeah he can't be compared to anyone he's so damn unique like wtf
@@alias.jordan2662 He lowkey remembers me of a Point Guard version of Paul George.
They're not exactly the same but he reminds me of Luka a bit. Has every move known to man, plays at his own pace, can score at all levels, makes you react and then counters. Straight baller
You're describing every great wing player ever. MJ was the same. Kobe. DWade. McGrady. Durant. It could also describe Larry Bird. I don't disagree, I just don't see how these traits are attributed to Luka, when players have played that way long before he was born.
@@ninjachannel007dddxdd.
@@ninjachannel007 it's the smoothness and the neglectment of unnecessary athleticism that makes them so reminiscent of each other
The thing with Luka is hes better in changing pace and also uses body contact more than the others. He absolutely love switching fast/slow pace + hesis to play with his defendrs. Doesnt rely much on athlecism but pure technique/footwork/iq
Both play with killer pace. I myself am guilty of overspeeding on drives and not being on balance and under my legs. SGA and Luka are always on balance which enables them to change directions like, 53 times in a row
Love this dude since his rookie season. The progression of his scoring ability and Playmaking is a sight to see.
You can really see that one year under CP3 did wonders for him. Shai has potential to be the best Canadian basketball player
this aged well like fine wine
Has all the tools to be legendary. Shifty ballhandling, great vision, finishes with either hand, creative in the post, good athleticism, pull up from anywhere., eurosteps. Just needs reps to become elite at all these things.
He’s learned so much from play with cp3 man this kid is a threat
he rlly did
SGA definitely most underrated player in the league. EVIN WE NEED A BAM HIGHLIGHT REEL NEXT!!!
Amazing videos as always love how you transitioned from a tough layup where he probably should’ve kicked to the corner directly to these amazing dump offs after splitting the defense the way you put these together adds an extra level of admiration for the players skill set
I try to have progressions. Normally I only do scoring or passing but with Shai, there were so many different moves/skills displayed that led to different results (drop offs or tough shots) that I had to pair them to properly show just how much he does.
Video is aging like wine. His body control, handle, change of pace and midrange has gotten even better. Videos like this show the intermediate growth into his current All-NBA status
He’s so smooth with it and makes a good play and he had like 12 30 pt games this year
Not only is he skilled but he is a winning player. Love the vid!
His pace, poise, and change of speed is amazing to watch 💪🏾
This dude's basketball fundamentals are madly amazing
OKC are gonna be real deadly watch
Aged like fine wine 🎉
Great player great video. Please do more on midrange jumpers
SAG is one of my favorite players for sure
Might as well be a fantastic footwork/finisher video as well. SGA is niceeeee
I genuinely had a hard time framing and then naming this video. It could have just been "Shai Gilgeous-Alexander [just watch it]"
@@EvinGualberto you wouldn't have been lying with that title either!
i believe in this guy
So underrated
salamat evin! hope you make a part 2 after this season
I will. I might even make multiple Shai videos just because there's so much to focus on
Definitely has an elite skill set
Proud to be a okc fan
Been waiting on this one
His game is so fucking clean
SGA is a underrated nba player for sure.
The vid is fire, but can we take a moment to talk about the description? W O W ! You sure put the work in it!
My favorite player 😌
Do you have Kyle Anderson the slow mo just amazed about his slow pace
Look at shai man
Amazing talent, his game reminds me of Paul George.
I think he learned a lot by his ex teammate CP3,astonishing guide. Just watch Lu Dort!(by the way,a video on him? He's undrafted -they were totally foolish btw-)
Evin, can you give me a quick opnion on my English?(not yet ready with American slang..😜)
Dort - maybe. His offense is interesting. His defense is what I'd really like to do a video on but it's harder and harder to get defense clips that I like.
As for your English - it's really coming along! I think I remember your earlier comments on the channel and yeah, you're definitely making progress!
@@EvinGualberto Thanks! You're one-of-a-kind. This reply will push myself on my improvement journey,in English and in basketball.😍
@@EvinGualberto bro, I'd love you to mentor me how you do these videos, I'm willing to learn, maybe I get your email or something.. mine is kayblood099@gmail.com
Really nice moves !! 🔥
I'm a Thunder fan. He's my favorite player. But is it weird that I have him as my phone wallpaper?
make one for nickeil or is there not enough film haha he plays really smooth too just not as developed
kawhi should of trusted this guy and kept him instead of trade for PG
He been fucking Lavine up😂
This kid is so legit. He looks and plays like he's just having fun playing a pick up game. He's slicing right through some veteran players so easily.
It's mind blowing how efficient he is.
So the Clippers could have kept him and all their picks? I know that's what Kawhi wanted, but damn, in hindsight it hurts.
Yeah that’s the thing i always looked at that trade as including kawhi... if you look at it as pg+5 first rounders+ kawhi for shai and galo it’s all of a sudden a much better deal.
It might take another 3-5 yrs but we’ll see who really came on top of that transaction.
@@jakobe328 still too bad Kawhi couldn't see SGA's potential. Imagine how good they'd be plus keeping their assets for a 3rd star?
@@DaraLazy can't blame him he's a win now player
how do i like a video twice?
1:22 good D 😂😂 no it’s not
He elusive asf
