    The description of the Black Mortal Blade in the Black Scroll says it is able to open a gate to the underworld. Genichiro, realising he cannot defeat you, sacrificed himself to open it and bring Isshin back. The person is brought back to life with goal of their summoner - as Isshin said, "Pitiful grandchild, this was your last wish". Isshin wants to "see Ashina returned from the great beyond" on behalf of Genichiro, so he fights you, just like Genichiro.
    I'm explaining this bc I've seen many questions on the internet on why we even fight Isshin. So here it is.

    • @manishsahu6186

      You can find the scroll that hints of the Black Blade, and even ask Isshin about it, but it still does feel a bit like an *sspull, as it doesn't have nearly as much buildup as the Red Mortal Blade did, which required heading to Senpou Temple and solving a puzzle inside to earn the weapon. The description is also easy to miss, which leads to Isshin's reveal confusing most people on their first time. That being said, we do get arguably the best final boss in recent times, so I excuse it in the end.
      On another note, I wonder if Isshin followed Genichiro's wishes out of obligation through some rule that the ressurection imposes, or if Isshin did this purely out of pity (and maybe love) for his grandson.

    Genichiro was really the measuring stick of the game. The first encounter seems like an impossible hill to climb, he's supposed to kill you. The second encounter is the big skill check of the game and the first to have three phases. Finally, in the end, Genichiro Ashina is nothing more than a bump on the road on the way to Isshin. While Genichiro was getting weaker, you were getting better.

    I love how Fromsoft made the character of Kuro. He doesn't follow the traditional "child that needs to be saved" troop of starting out annoying and then forming an emotional bond with the protagonist with the passage of time. Rather, he's a mature, kind, and gentle soul who puts the peace and prosperity of others above his own life.

    Orphan of Kos

    The way I interpreted Isshin coming out of Genichiro was that the second mortal blade creates a gateway to hell (it says so in the description of an item found behind old Isshin's house in a chest). So basically Genichiro uses himself as a sacrifice to open a portal to hell to allow prime Isshin to bring Ashina to glory. Pretty badass but I could be wrong.

    To think what Sekiro has gone through.
    From depths to heavens he challenged gods, monsters, and warriors of legends.
    And still he has humility to just sacrifice himself..... with no hesitation.

    • @leithaziz2716
      @leithaziz2716 Год назад +18

      While the Dragon's Return is the more popular ending (and the one that leaves room for a sequel), the Purification ending is my favorite. Sekiro chooses to sacrifice his life, not out of obligation to his father or the Iron Code, but of his own want for Kuro to be able to live a normal life. And Kuro in turn chooses to live his life to the fullest, to honor Sekiro's kindness. The ending is very emotional, and had solid buildup through your conversations with Emma and Kuro.

    • @divyanshpanwari348
      @divyanshpanwari348 5 месяцев назад

      Immortal severance is my favourite because it makes Sekiro a cycle of life

    • @zosonte129
      @zosonte129 3 месяца назад

      Purification is my favorite because it fits the most with the Buddhist themes of the game. By sacrificing himself selflessly for the sake of Kuro, Sekiro achieves true nirvana and escapes the cycle of Samsara. He went from a machine of a shinobi to a man who made his own and chose to protect rather than obey; while Genichiro, Owl, and the Senpou monks refused to let things end, Sekiro did, even becoming sakura petals in the end which represent the beauty of mortality. Really does Fromsoft's "end of an age" theme the best.

    The part at 7:18 where Sekiro draws his sword is pivotal. If you compare it to the first time he drew his sword against Genichiro all the way back at the beginning, you can plainly see how much he has improved. It’s magic. He fumbled the first time. • @Sephirothkingdom782
      @Sephirothkingdom782 Год назад +4

      What’s even cooler is that the game is called “sekiro” yet isshin is the only person in the entire game that calls you that name. He’s your master, he’s your mentor, and he’s your friend, something that is only found in gehrman yet this fight feels even more impactful because throughout the whole game it’s about WOLF, not any other character. Even the most personal fight in the game, owl father, revolves around wolf, yet this final boss isn’t about just him anymore. It’s not about wolf overcoming a personal gripe of his or an enemy that is required to kill for an item to sever immortality, but rather it’s a duel in the purest form between 2 people that actually care about each other. It’s the only time in the entire game where it’s not about wolf, but rather the story of wolf and the sword saint told in this single fight, it’s also not a coincidence that this fight feels the most like a dark souls boss. Demon of hatred, while it may play like a dark souls boss, is like a harder version of the guardian ape and doesn’t have that same “vibe”, yet this fight does. It’s literally the best boss fromsoft has ever made alongside gael, who also happens to be “the main character” of his own story just like isshin. Absolutely incredible.

And I'm also happy that you praise the game, its soundtracks and its boss fights because it not only shows how much you enjoy and appreciate this game and all the other games you played, but it also just feel so damn good to see someone else enjoy a game that you yourself love so damn much. I really am happy and I'm even more happy that you are happy, while making your community happy with your awesome content. It's so great to just see you, a funny guy on the internet play all these great games. You truly are amazing and please keep in mind that you are a great youtuber. I'm already excited for the next game and also more videos on Sekiro as you maybe replay it or do the gauntlets of strength. In the end it doesn't matter cause I'm excited nonetheless but if you want more drip (different appearances) or even cooler boss fights (=so much more pain) Sekiro is always there like your community. i think the purification ending is the best ending - it's the one i go for whenever i replay the game. there's something poetic about it - kuro getting to live out his life as a mortal human, sekiro making one last sacrifice for him. i know the ending with even more talking and eavesdropping steps is considered the "true" ending, but not for me.

    No but seriously, speaking of Genichiro, unironically I love how he goes from being a wall at the beginning of the game, to a challenge in his fight in Ashina, and ends up being just a small obstacle at the end of the game, all thanks to your own improvement as a player. It's really a brilliant and beautiful design for a boss.

    Now that you've completed the game (and killed father owl), if you do the evil ending, which you can access by serving the iron code when you meet owl again at Ashina Castle, you'll unlock a secret gauntlet of strength that will reward you with the sickest drip in all of Ashina.
    If I were you, I'd probably start by doing the two gauntlets you have unlocked now, in order. You're eventually gonna fight Sword Saint Isshin again, and just to let you know, that giant whirlwind attack is something you can double jump goomba stomp for extra posture damage. I see that you usually have your finger on the movement button, which definitely makes things harder, especially for Isshin. You don't need to move your stick forward to do a mikiri for example, you just need to press O, and constantly moving makes those double jump goomba stomps a lot harder to perform.
    Good luck in the gauntlets, shinobi

    What I love about this fight (and honestly most of the main bosses in this game) is that there isn’t any gimmicks or meter that you have to wait for them to get tired to hit them a few times then rinse and repeat over until you win. So many games do that and it sucks. But these fights actually feel like duels between highly skilled fighters, or sometimes massive creatures. All with unique moves and weaknesses you can exploit by recognizing patters and straight up just fighting them with your own skill. This final boss fight is up there with the greats, his second phase gave me such a problems I was almost stuck on him for like…2 days? But the moment I finally got to that last phase I didn’t let that opportunity slip and managed to finally kill him at like 12 o’clock at night. Was totally worth the satisfaction lol. This game desperately needs a sequel or a spiritual successor of some kind honestly.

      Idk about the music. While it was definitely epic especially the first part, the boss themes of DS3 and Bloodborne can't be easily disregarded like that imho. @@lileofficial4273sekiro’s story is poetically better as it revolves around not you or a nameless being like the undead one, but rather WOLF, he is a character on his own. You’d truffle what he struggles, you beat what he beats, etc. it’s the perfect opposite from fromsoftware’s usual “main character” and it’s part of the reason why sekiro’s story is so masterfully done through its combat

    • @Sephirothkingdom782

      @@jimmyj5703nah from a mech sucks standpoint inner father is superior, who is the final boss of the shura gauntlet. His mechanics are basically owl father on crack and he even used mist raven to keep you from getting too aggressive, it’s a masterfully designed fight. However I believe sword Saint is still better due to the fact that it has literally everything you’d need in a fight. Good music that isn’t distracting to what’s happening, masterful combat mechanics that is second only to probably one of the most mechanically well done bosses in video game history (inner father), the best arena in the entire game, and most importantly he has the CHARISMA of a top tier fromsoftware boss. He’s basically perfect since he does nothing wrong or has nothing wrong.

I played this game back when it released and I come back from time to time, but i haven't spent nearly the hours or dedication to it that I've seen many places online. This game has a cult following, and it deserves it.... Just seeing that last cutscene reminds me of the amazing journey I had, and I never replay them anymore haven't watched them in forever, but just that last ending will leave me choked up every single time I see it. It reminded me of how good this story actually is if you're paying attention, and something I really admired about the way you spend your time with it Mati soaking up every piece of information you could. This game deserves it's Masterpiece rating.
