Thank you for creating this series! I have spent the past 3 seasons learning/struggling to get bites and get fish to the boat in the Tampa Bay area. Hoping to do better this year

Love the tip of light drag to start the fight on the beach. What do you do with drag around the bridges or passes on a heavy flush with more boats and the structure of the bridge to contend with?

Good question! I still use the same loose drag on the hook up (if it’s a halfway decent sized one, you’re not going to stop them even with a tight drag anyways). However, around the bridge or in heavy traffic, I would try to turn the boat and stay right on top of them until the current or the fish takes us away from danger and into the open. Once in the open you can fight them normally and slowly increase the drag as the fish tires . Even though the drag is light on the hook up, I use palm of my hand to apply heavy pressure on the spool during the fight unless the fish is surging or jumping. You have to know when to let go but it is extremely effective! If the fish is small enough you can usually stay put and apply heavy pressure on the spool with your palm to stop them without moving the boat but if they’re too big to stop it’s a must to stay right on top of them!

Hi sir. Thaks for the tips. My spot in Africa, there are a lot of tarpons off the beach. I use 60-80 gr jigs in order to reach 70-80 meters. Some times they are very clos to shore like 20-30 meters. I hooked like 20 of them but couldnt land one. Is ıt because of the jigs weight? I usually lost the fish in it's first jump. I put lots of pressure when it jumps (which now I learned that's a mistake). Is there any other advice you can give for me to land a trophy fish? They weight about 20 to 50 kg. Thanks a lot!

Great videos! I have the same disease, tarponfluenza. There isn’t another fish I’d rather catch! Counting down the days til the white butterflies show up!

@@jacksuarez6827last year we caught our first big one in late Feb during a unseasonably warm stretch (earliest ever!). Hard to believe we’ll be able to start targeting consistently them in less than two months!
