The middle part sounded more modern, evoking Brahms, but the outer parts had me puzzled with both very classical (around cadences) and modern gestures. I even thought about Haydn for a second, because of that pizzicato bass and the interrupted nature of the first theme... definitely captured the joke in "scherzo".
